Chapter 1710
Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James)
Sophie lifted the photo again, and this time, Colby suddenly grabbed her wrist. The move was so unexpected, Sophie barely had time to process it before Colby was leading her down the stairs.
Not sure what he was up to, Sophieâs face showed rare panic. âHey! What are you doing? Let go of me!â
When they reached the front yard of the Aldridge estate, Colby abruptly let her go.
She almost bumped into him as he spun around to face her.
They were standing so close, and Colby looked at her with an intensity that made her heart race.
âWhat happened today stays between us, or else...â
Before Sophie could make sense of his words, Colby stepped straight into the fountain.
The water drenched him, highlighting his toned body. He wasnât wearing much, to begin with, and now everything was on display.
âMercy, my lady!â
His dramatic plea left Sophie speechless.
She tried to keep a straight face, but her efforts crumbled in seconds.
How could someone say something so serious yet so hilariously absurd?
âHahahaha!â
Moments later, Sophieâs laughter rang through the Aldridge Estate.
The next morning.
Sophie burst into Gordonâs study, buzzing with excitement about last nightâs events. âI thought he was mad at me, but then he just jumped into the fountain, shouting âMercy, my lady!â three times! Can you imagine, Gordon? The usually icy Colby, pleading like thatâit was too funny!â
Gordon, sitting at his desk, watched her with a warm grin. âGetting under Colbyâs skin like that, youâre probably the first in all of Devonport.â
âThatâs all thanks to you, big brother.â
Sophie flopped onto the couch, her legs swinging happily. âToo bad such fun only happens once.â
A touch of disappointment flickered across her face.
After a moment, she asked, âDo you think heâll try to get back at me for this?â
âColbyâs not that type.â
âDo you know him well?â
âNot really.â
âThen how do you know?â
Sophie pouted. âWith a face that stern, I wonder how heâll ever find a wife.â
She couldnât resist complimenting Gordon, adding, âUnlike you, brother. Youâre so kind; I bet lots of girls adore you.â
Rick entered with a tray of tea just in time to catch Sophieâs words, and he couldnât help but chuckle.
âRick, whatâs so funny?â
Sophie asked, curious about Rickâs reaction.
âItâs nothing... Miss Sophie might not know how Mr. Gordon is when heâs out in the world.â
Sophieâs interest was piqued. âWhat do you mean?â
âRick.â
Gordon interrupted, âJust leave the tea and go.â
âYes, sir.â
âSo, whatâs my brother like outside?â
Sophie tugged playfully at Rickâs arm, trying to get him to spill.
Rick cleared his throat, hesitating a bit before quietly confessing, âOut in public, sirâs expression is even more intimidating than Mr. Colbyâs.â
