Chapter 1568
Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James)
Robert was visibly terrified, his face as white as a sheet and drenched in cold sweat. Even the tiniest sound made him jump out of his skin.
âAre you Robert?â Sophie asked as she stepped up to him.
Robert was so scared he could barely move. After a moment of stunned silence, he nodded frantically, âYes, yes... no, Iâm not... please, donât kill me!
Iâm begging you, donât kill me!â
He was seconds away from losing control of his bladder.
Sophie glanced at her bodyguard, âIs there anyone else around?â
âNope, itâs just him.â
Seeing the coast was clear, Sophie didnât want to hang around any longer than necessary. Every second here felt like a risk.
âTake them all with us.â
âGot it.â
âPlease, donât kill me!â Robert pleaded, trembling like a leaf.
The Aldridge familyâs bodyguards had never seen anyone so spineless. This guy looked ready to wet himself without them even lifting a finger.
Over at the Minton family estate, the bodyguards shoved both men to the ground. Sophie picked up a fruit knife from the table and slashed Spencerâs face.
His scream echoed through the estate, sharp and piercing.
Sophie frowned and nodded to a bodyguard, who stuffed a rag into Spencerâs mouth to muffle him.
Sophie tossed the fruit knife aside and said, âAlright, you first. Give me a quick intro, letâs hear it.â
âWhat...what kind of intro?â Robert stammered, bewildered.
Did they really need a background check before getting killed?
âJust do it, no need for dramatics,â the bodyguard urged.
Panicked, Robert blurted out, âI-Iâm Robert, graduated from Summerfield University with an associate degree... passed my basic computer cert, and...â
âEnough,â Sophie cut him off, frowning. âWho asked for your resume?â
âHuh?â Robert was completely lost.
What was this about?
âIâm asking, is your father Elliott?â
âYes, yes...â
âIs he dead?â
âI donât know, I really donât!â Robert exclaimed. He was as clueless as a deer in headlights. After being knocked out at home, he woke up to find himself facing Sophie. Everything else was a blank.
Sophie nodded, turning her attention to Spencer, whose pain seemed to have eased a bit. âRemove the rag. Iâve got questions.â
âOn it.â The bodyguard pulled the rag from Spencerâs mouth.
With his face bloodied, Sophie remarked, âDonât think Iâm heartless. Itâs just to make it clear whoâs who. You had such a handsome face, if youâre going to mess with it, at least make it look better, not worse.â
Robert blinked in confusion.
Was she saying he was ugly?
Sophie ignored the awkward moment and continued, âHowâs The Silent Shadows planning to throw me off through you? Just spill. Itâll save everyoneâs time.â
Spencerâs face went pale, distressed. âI could never betray The Silent Shadows! Just kill me!â
âIâm not here to kill you. Why would I?â Sophie propped her chin, a smile playing on her lips. âBut if you donât talk, I might just have to kill him instead.
Howâs that sound?â
Robertâs expression changed instantly, panic setting in. âWhy me? Iâm the victim here! I have nothing to do with this!â
