Chapter 1539
Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James)
In a foreign prison, the harsh beam of a flashlight kept swinging in front of Reece's eyes. It was the dead of night, and his once-white shirt was now smeared with dirt, making him look utterly disheveled. The blood on his forehead had dried, leaving a stark reminder of his ordeal.
âBring him out for more questioning,â one officer ordered.
âHe hasn't slept for a full day and night. What if something happens? Heâs a public figure, after all,â another officer argued.
âWe just need to follow orders. Bring him out,â the first officer insisted, his voice devoid of empathy.
Reece listened silently to their conversation. He'd been stuck here for a day, his wounds untreated and starting to fester. Four hours ago, he noticed he had a fever, but that wasnât his biggest worry. What really concerned him was the trouble his capture could cause for Sophie back home, especially with the S Corporation at such a crucial point.
As the officers opened the cell door, Reece gathered his strength, speaking as weakly as he could, âIâm in bad shape. I need a hospital.â
Though the officers heard him, they had no plans to act. Their orders were clear: keep interrogating him through the night.
âIf something goes wrong, weâre in deep trouble,â muttered one officer standing outside, unable to stand by any longer.
Reece had a massive fan base overseas, and if word got out about his mistreatment, there would surely be an uproar. The higher-ups would never own up to their actions, leaving these officers to take the fall.
The other officer hesitated too, torn between orders and his conscience. Seeing their indecision, Reece dramatically slumped to the floor.
Alarmed, the officers rushed to his side, shaking him gently. âHey, wake up! Are you alright?â
All night, theyâd been following orders, shining flashlights into Reeceâs eyes, denying him rest. It was torture for anyone, let alone someone who'd been attacked and left untreated.
âLetâs get him out of here. Iâll speak to the boss,â one officer finally decided, stepping out of the cell.
Meanwhile, the other kept watch over Reece. Outside, a fleet of sleek black Mercedes suddenly rolled up to the police station, catching everyone inside by surprise. The cars formed a tight perimeter around the station until an elderly man with a cane stepped out of the lead vehicle.
The police chief hurried outside, trying to act cordial. âCaelum, we werenât expecting you. Why didnât you give us a heads up?â
Caelum, although seldom seen in public these days, always made a grand entrance when he did. His expression was icy as he replied, âI hear youâve got my godson locked up here. Iâm here to see him.â
