Chapter 1527
Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James)
Kena looked at Sophie, searching for any hint of heartache or hesitation in her eyes, but there was nothing there.
âYou really are cold-hearted, arenât you?â
Everyone knew how Colby had treated Sophie, not just their friends but the whole world, thanks to the extravagant wedding heâd thrown. If it werenât for the recent headlines, theyâd still be the couple everyone enviedâthe picture-perfect pair.
Kena suddenly asked, âSo, because of one medical report, youâre just going to dismiss all the love heâs shown you?â
Sophie's voice turned icy. âHe doesnât even know what love means. If even science dismisses such feelings, how am I supposed to believe his love is real?â
Sophie seemed drained, uninterested in discussing it further. âDonât bring up anything about Colby around me. Weâre done.â
She turned her gaze out the car window.
The car pulled up to the Minton familyâs villa, and Sophie was the first to step out. Kena watched her make her way inside before telling the driver to move on.
Sophie took in the familiar surroundings, recalling how anxious sheâd been the last time she was here, worried sheâd never escape the Minton familyâs overwhelming hold. Now, she was merely a guest.
Lost in thought, she didnât notice the shadow slipping closer until a large hand pulled her into the dark.
And then, the scent of tobacco hit her.
The smell was both familiar and strangeâit had been ages since sheâd last encountered it.
Instinctively, Sophieâs hand shot up, delivering a slap across the face.
Though her swing was quick and determined, the impact softened at the last moment.
The slap landed on Colby, but it didnât faze him.
âFeeling better?â Colbyâs voice was deep, tinged with a hint of hurt.
âNot even close!â Sophie snapped, her hand itching for another swing. But Colby didnât flinch. He simply took her hand, saying, âNo need for you to hurt your hand. Iâd hate to see it turn red.â

âIsnât this a bit embarrassing?â Sophie quipped.
âGetting a scolding from my wife isnât embarrassing at all,â Colby replied, tightening his grip just a bit.
âWhy were you with that woman?â Sophie glared.
âIâve scrubbed myself clean and changed my clothes... Come on, donât be mad, okay?â Colbyâs voice was gentle, full of warmth for Sophie.
âI know you were contacted by the Spellman family. You did it to figure out what theyâre up to. But seeing you joke around with that woman really got to me. Iâm just that petty, deliberately making things hard for you.â
âI know, you care about me,â Colby said, a rare smile breaking through his serious demeanor.
âAll this time, you didnât come to clear things up. I thought maybe you were just that clueless, not catching on to what I meant.â Sophie had always seen Colby as her soulmate, believing a single look was enough for him to understand her completely.
