Chapter 1480
Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James)
In the room, Sophie shrugged off her outer layer, exposing a noticeable wound on her shoulder. William leaned in for a closer look and said, âYouâve healed up pretty well.â
âColby mentioned that too,â Sophie replied.
After giving it another glance, William added, âYou could probably have surgery this year. Scar treatment is a process, and considering how bad the injury was, it might be tough to make it perfect. You might end up with a faint scar, but it won't be too obvious.â
âAlright,â Sophie nodded.
As William started packing up his medical kit, Sophie casually asked, âDid you make a special trip just for today?â
âNo, I actually got here yesterday...â William paused, then quickly corrected himself, âI took the evening flight and stayed at the hotel overnight.â
âOh...â
âWhy do you ask, Sophie?â
âI noticed you didnât have any luggage, so I figured you hadnât just arrived today.â
â...Sophie, youâre pretty sharp.â
The more William thought about it, the more he suspected Sophie was trying to catch him in a lie.
Whatâs with the folks in Devonport? Why is everyone so sharp?
People who are too clever donât live long; they always meet an early end! William mused to himself.
Then, out of the blue, Sophie asked, âWilliam, did you happen to run into Mr. Gordon while you were abroad?â
Hearing Gordon's name made Williamâs heart skip a beat.
Whoa! How does she know that?
Whatâs going on in her head?
Trying to keep his cool, William said, âOf course not!â
The room fell silent for a few moments.
Under Sophieâs steady gaze, William started to squirm: âReally... I didnât.â
But Sophieâs unyielding stare wore him down.
Finally, William confessed, âAlright, I did see him.â
Sophie broke into a smile: âIs Mr. Gordon doing any better?â
âOh, sure...â
So much better, he's practically immortal. William forced a smile.
Sophie said, âVacations abroad must be lovely. When you see Mr. Gordon, do send him my regards.â
â...Sure.â
Assuming heâs around to hear them.
Not wanting to stick around any longer, William quickly got up and said, âSophie, Iâve got other things to handle, so Iâll head out.â
William made a swift exit, almost slipping out the door. Just as he was about to say goodbye to Colby, Colby held out his hand and said, âThe meds.â
âOh, right! The meds!â
William handed them over to Colby, âThatâs enough for two weeks! Refill if you run out! Gotta go.â
William dashed out, but Sophieâs frown only deepened.
Williamâs behavior was odd, but Colby didnât seem too bothered. He walked over to Sophie and said, âI heard everything.â
âColby, I canât shake the feeling that Williamâs hiding something from us.â
Sophie felt uneasy, âCould it be about Mr. Gordonâs condition...â
âDonât overthink it.â
Colby reassured her calmly, âNothingâs gonna happen. Gordonâs not that easy to take down.â
âYeah... He is Gordon, after all.â

Gordon had brushed off several serious illnesses before.
Maybe Mr. Gordon was never sick, just playing some elaborate game with everyone.
