Chapter 1457
Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James)
Early in the morning, Sophie woke up to find Colby was already out of bed. Instinctively, she reached over, searching for him, and asked, âColby...
what time is it?â
The room was silent, with no sign of Colby. Sophie got up, realizing he must have left while she was still asleep.
After a quick wash, she headed downstairs. By then, Colby was back, sleeves of his black shirt rolled up, busy making breakfast in the kitchen.
âUp so early?â she remarked.
It was just seven o'clock.
Colby had been syncing his schedule with Sophie's, getting used to her routine.
âCome on, breakfast is ready,â he said.
He'd made two sandwiches and a bowl of light oatmeal. Since Sophieâs last injury, her health had been shaky. While recovering in the hospital, sheâd been in and out with fevers, and lately, could only handle light meals.
Sophie took a seat at the table. Sheâd slept deeply the night before, likely from sheer exhaustion, waking only with the dawn.
Colby settled next to her, gently gathering her hair up.
âYour hairstyling skills are getting pretty good,â she teased.
âItâs my duty to serve my wife,â he replied with a smile.
Just then, one of Colbyâs men entered, âBoss, we've got those chapels under tight surveillance, do you think we should...â
He stopped short, realizing Sophie was present, and awkwardly mumbled, âSend more people... sorry!â
He apologized, bowed, and made a hasty exit.
Sophie turned her gaze to Colby. âWhat chapels?â
Colby rubbed his temples, caught off guard by his associateâs slip-up.
âI couldnât sleep last night, so I checked out the chapels nearby,â he admitted.
âWhy didnât you tell me?â Sophie playfully pinched Colbyâs cheek. âWaited until I was asleep, didnât you?â

His eyes were sincere.
Sophieâs injuries werenât fully healed, and her recent efforts on behalf of Odie had likely aggravated them, though she hadnât said a word. Colby had changed her bandages last night, concerned about scarring on her shoulder.
Understanding his intentions, Sophie wasnât truly angry. She held a sandwich up to his mouth, âJust donât keep things from me, okay?â
With his mouth full, Colby nodded, showing he got the message.
Seeing him agree, Sophie was satisfied, âFinish up and then get some rest. You didnât sleep at all last night, did you? Trying to convince me you just woke up early?â
She tapped his forehead playfully, âYou need your sleep. Keep up your strength, got it?â
Colby nodded again, obediently.
Seeing him so agreeable, Sophie added, âLetâs eat, then Iâll nap with you.â
Odie was safe now, and the person lurking hadnât made a move. There was no need to stress over chasing clues. It felt almost like a vacation, and wasnât that nice?
After breakfast, Colby was the first to get up and start clearing the table. Sophie lounged on the couch, watching him from the living room.
From the kitchen, Colby noticed Sophie with her chin propped up, watching him wash dishes, and hurried his pace just a bit.
