Chapter 1429
Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James)
At the police station, Mr. Schuldt had already stationed himself at the entrance, knowing Sophie and Colby were on their way. When they pulled up, he wasted no time approaching them.
"Mr. Colby, ma'am, everythingâs set for your questioning," he greeted them.
"Thanks, Officer Derick," Sophie replied with a nod.
"Donât mention it. Please, follow me."
Mr. Schuldt led them to the interrogation room, where they found Colt sitting, handcuffed. After the last incident, James had brought Colt here. With Joseph no longer around, Colt was left without his usual protection. Considering all he knew about Joseph's shady dealings, it was no surprise he ended up here.
"Who else was involved with Joseph?" Sophie asked directly.
"Ms. Sophie, Iâm not quite sure what youâre getting at," Colt answered, maintaining his calm demeanor.
"Really? From the documents Joseph left behind, weâve uncovered some leads. Thereâs someone else besides Joseph pulling the strings. You were his right-hand man; surely you know."
"I honestly donât know," Colt chuckled. "Iâm already here, whatâs the point in lying?"
"Colt, for the sake of our past acquaintance, if you name the mastermind, I promise a lighter sentence."
Unmoved, Colt replied, "Sophie, if it werenât for you, Mr. James wouldâve achieved his ambitions, and Burke International wouldâve soared. Youâre the last person Iâd tell, even if there was someone else."
"This is pointless," Colby interjected coolly. "Sophie, let me handle this."
"Hold on," Sophie said, calming Colby. She turned to Colt, "If he doesnât value his own life, nothing you do will make him talk."
"Dealing with smart folks is always nice. No need to over-explain," Colt laughed. "Ms. Sophie, your visit was in vain. I guarantee you won't get anything from me."
"Alright, maybe this was a waste. But Iâm curious, youâre so loyal to this mysterious figure, do you really think theyâll have your back?"
With that, Sophie stood, leading Colby out of the room.
"Iâve got a way to make him talk," Colby whispered.
"Using force? Itâs pointless. Coltâs been around James long enough to craft a convincing story if he wanted to deceive us, which could throw us off track."
"So, do we just let it go?"
"Of course not. We just need a different tactic."
Seeing the gleam in Sophie's eyes, Colby caught on and grinned, "You and your schemes."
"Whether we can get the mastermindâs identity from Colt hinges entirely on my plan."
Sophie continued, "Colt isnât scared of dying or being locked up, and heâs fiercely loyal to Joseph and Burke International. Either heâs certain someone will rescue him, or heâs just a die-hard loyalist."
"What if itâs the latter?"
"Then we gamble, but weâll need you, Colby, to set up some backup."
"Got it."
As they exited the station, Mr. Schuldt looked puzzled to see them out so soon. "Mr. Colby, ma'am, all done already?"
He was taken aback. Theyâd said they had important matters to discuss, yet here they were, leaving after a mere ten minutes.
Sophie gave a reassuring smile, "Officer Derick, weâll need your help later tonight."
"Ma'am, youâre kidding! Just let me know what you need, and Iâll make it happen."
"Tonight, someoneâs coming by. Iâll need to borrow a police uniform and your help to put on a little show."
"Consider it done, maâam! Iâll make sure everythingâs ready."
"Thanks a lot, Mr. Schuldt."
"Youâre too kind, maâam. Iâll get on it right away."
Officer Derick moved swiftly to make arrangements.

Two officers escorted Colt back to the interrogation room, where Officer Derick was already stationed.
Colt recognized Officer Derick from before.
"What brings me here at this hour, Officer Derick?" Colt asked.
