“Mr. Odie, someone’s in a bad mood,” Sophie remarked.

Odie shot Sophie a sidelong glance before looking away, his voice icy. “Was it Colby's idea to make it seem like I was at death's door?”

“Yeah.”

“Have you caught the mastermind yet?”

“Not yet.”

“The Mintons have been taken from me,” Odie’s voice grew even colder. “Colby really did me a solid, didn’t he?”

“He did it to protect you.”

Sophie continued, “You must have realized by now, the person behind this wants you dead to regain control of the Mintons. They think you’re no longer under their thumb. If you weren’t supposedly dead and still had the Minton family’s power, they’d never leave you alone. You got lucky this time, but next time, you might not be so fortunate.”

“Well, I don’t need his protection!”

Odie’s expression darkened further.

Sophie knew she had to tread carefully with Odie, so she softened her tone and stepped closer. “Colby might have overstepped, and I’ve already had a word with him about it.”
