Sophie turned to James. “Seems like you knew I wanted to talk to you alone.”

When Elodie had called him, James was already at Burke International’s doorstep. Sophie wasn’t sure if she was imagining it, but James looked thinner than last month. Given his time in jail and hiding from the media, it made sense.

“Handing over Burke International’s shares is good for you and S Corporation,” James said in a heavy tone, lost in thought.

Sophie frowned. “If that’s the case, why did you give me the shares in the first place? Just to keep your grandmother out of prison?”
