Both children gave their mother concerned looks.

Sensing their uneasiness, Li rubbed their heads and smiled bitterly. “You guys should eat now. We’ll be on our way when you’re full.”

Sanya asked, “Mom, will we be in danger?”

Before Li could say anything, Gao Mingjiang said, “Dad’s here. There’s no danger. Just eat and sleep. Everything will be fine when we get to Northern

Yan.”

Sanya and Xiaoshu nodded solemnly.

Seeing that Sanya had stopped eating after two bites, Li asked, “Why won’t you eat?”

With a solemn look on her face, Sanya said, “Mother, we don’t know how dangerous this journey will be, and we don’t know if we’ll have anything to eat in the future… I want to save my food and take another bite when I’m starving…”

The family found a leeward spot behind a big rock and were ready to sleep when they heard footsteps.

It sounded like the second daughter-in-law, who didn’t talk much. Feng Wu yawned and thought to herself.

Sanya, who had been sleeping soundly in Feng Wu’s arms, woke up right away and was on the alert! She looked like a bristling cat.

Xiaoshu was alarmed as well.

Feng Wu looked at them in bewilderment and asked in a low voice, “What’s wrong?”

Throwing her arms around Feng Wu, Sanya asked nervously, “Sister Feng, are we going to lose our bed?”

In the dark, Feng Wu saw that Sanya was looking at her nervously, and so was

Xiaoshu.

Feng Wu was confused. “How can someone take our bed?”

Sanya said, “Can we keep our bed, then?”

She knew by now how capable Sister Feng was. Even her grandmother wouldn’t be her match.

Feng Wu nodded. “Of course. Why should we give our own bed to someone else? What should we sleep on?”

In order to avoid detection, Feng Wu had destroyed her own cultivation and was too weak to withstand the cold.

The two kids nodded immediately, their eyes twinkling.

By then, Li had left with her sister-in-law.

They didn’t go very far because it would be dangerous.

That distance was enough for Feng Wu to hear their conversation.

After praising Li’s family, the second daughter-in-law went on crying about how difficult it had been for them. In the end, she turned to Li for help.
