Chapter 27

February

The Deep End

Chapter Song: Trampoline SHAED & ZAYN

The days continued to fly by but the weather stayed cold and dreary. I loved it. The snow continued to fall silently. It covered the town in a white pillow top of winter. I knew this winter would be long, but I didn't know it would be this long. Either way, I loved it.

Cal and I spent more time together when we could. We would study at the Corner Cafe,  or at his house. The only time he would ever come over anymore was to spend time with Liam. When we were at his house, that meant it was our time to spend together.

A part of me thought he still saw me as one of the guys until New Years'. After I saw him outside arguing with Tyler we had left the party. No one was at his house so we had it all to ourselves. We didn't talk about the conversation he had with Tyler. I didn't want to bring it up, whatever it was, was between the two of them.

I slowly made my way through the arctic tundra of our town after swim practice. We had been back in the pool with the club team for about a month. I always preferred high school swim over our club swim. It was always more relaxed, and less pressure than club.

We had a big meet coming up in April. There were supposed to be college scouts there and everything. Supposedly the coach from Berkeley was going to come. My coach couldn't stop talking to me about it. The whole idea made me want to barf.

It's not that I wasn't thankful for the opportunity to be possibly scouted by Berkeley. It was just I still was unsure about the whole swimming in college thing. It was always a fun idea to dream about when I was little. I even used to dream about the Olympics. I kept trying to remember when it stopped being fun for me, but I couldn't. I could never place it on an exact memory, it happened slowly.

I pulled into my driveway just in time to see Cal closing our front door behind him. I know they have been having lacrosse practice a couple of times a week for those who wanted to be serious for next season. Especially for those who wanted to win state a fourth time. Maybe he was just playing video games with Liam and Tyler.

Our school's lacrosse team has now won the state title three years in a row. Next year was everyone's senior year. Mason, Liam, and Cal were taking practice very seriously. If they weren't practicing they were at the gym. They already signed up for another lacrosse camp over the summer. I think it was the same one they went to this past summer. Which meant another summer to just Riley and me.

I was looking forward to it, because I know we would find fun things to do. Plus I could put my head into swim and really focus on that. But it didn't mean I wouldn't miss Cal being gone. Hell, I'd even miss Liam and Mason too.

"Hey." I shivered after getting out of my Jeep. The crisp air bit at my nose.

"Hey wanna come over for dinner tonight?" He jogged over to me to wrap me in his arms. He was so warm I didn't want to let go.

"Mhmm..." I hummed into his chest. I appreciated how warm he always was.

"Okay go shower, I'll order a pizza and we can watch a movie or something." He said giving me a quick kiss on the cheek. He let go of me and started to jog back across the street.

"Bye!" I called rolling my eyes before making my way inside.

"Hello!" I called into the house waiting for a response. I got nothing.

I rolled my eyes some more and followed the voices downstairs. I knew they were playing video games, but they still could have the decency to say hi back.

"Hello!" I yelled at them finally getting some attention after throwing a pillow at them.

"Hey! You made me die!" Liam groaned throwing his controller down.

This caused both Tyler and I to start laughing. Liam loved to be dramatic about this kind of stuff. I couldn't help but make fun of him for it. Boys were so sensitive when it came to video games.

"Well, maybe next time you should answer when I talk to you." I shoved my tongue out at him.

"Ken, I talk to you all the time." Liam laughed. It was true.

"Whatever I'm going to Cal's." I playfully rolled my eyes some more before making my way to my bathroom.

I quickly showered and threw on some sweat pants. I was searching for my closet until I found the hoodie I was looking for. It was one of Cal's lacrosse hoodies that I stole from him back in December. There was something about wearing your boyfriend's clothes that just got me.

Boyfriend.

He wasn't technically even my boyfriend. He never asked and neither did I. I didn't feel the need to. Not since the night of the wedding when I asked what was going on. After that night he made me feel like I didn't have to.

"Okay so tell me again why you like Aria so much?" Cal chuckled at me.

We were on season six of Game of Thrones. He had never watched it before I started making him. He didn't get all the hype until I forced him through the first season. Byt the end of it, he was hooked.

"Because she's a little badass!" I scoffed pointing towards the screen. "Do you think you would be able to survive like she did?" I raised my eyebrows at him.

"Uh yeah," he raised his voice.

"Uh-huh sure," I poked him in his ribs. He wouldn't have been able to there was no way.

Instantly he grabbed my hand and pulled me closer towards him. I laid across his lap and he started to tap on my forehead. I tried to swat him away but he kept tapping me.

Eventually, I tried to bite his finger and still had no luck. I couldn't help but laugh at how silly this whole thing was. It was simple but sweet.

"I'm tired." I yawned snuggling closer to him.

"Get some sleep." He smiled at me sweetly.

"Where are your parents tonight anyways?" I asked as soon as I shut my eyes.

"At some weekend getaway my mom won at work," he shrugged.

I kept my eyes shut hoping he wouldn't see the surprise in my eyes. It was Friday night and we didn't have any other plans. Thankfully. I was happy that I got to spend time with him. I snuggled in closer.

"Are you cold?" He whispered. His words tickled my ear.

"No," I smiled. "I just like how comfy you are to lay on," I giggled.

Sometimes I felt stupid by how much he made me laugh. I couldn't help it though. I loved it when he made me laugh. Everything just came so natural with him.

He leaned down and gently kissed my forehead. I reached my hand up to play with his curly hair. It was always so soft, softer than mine. Maybe because it didn't have permanent chlorine damage. I pulled him closer so our lips lingered on top of each other. Not quite kissing.

There was a moment of silence, as our lips grazed one another. Time froze while we stared into each other's eyes. I saw the longing hunger return darkening his deep brown eyes.

I inched closer just barely so our lips finally pressed together. He wrapped his arms around me lifting me up into a sitting position. I straddled his waist wrapping my arms around his neck. He parted my lips with his tongue. I moaned his name into his lips.

My body always reacted instantly to his. It responded to the motions so fluidly like bodies of water mixing together. It was beautiful. We were so consumed with each other that when the lights shut off we finally snapped out of it.

"What just happened?" I whispered pulling away from him.

"I think the powers out," he nibbled my ear. "Supposed to be a snowstorm tonight."

"Really?" I said surprised. I pulled away to look out the window, and back to him.

"Looks like you'll just have to stay the night." He snickered toying with the string on my sweats.

"I live across the street." I laughed ruffling my fingers through his hair once more.

"Then at least stay until the power comes back on." He kissed my neck, "I'm afraid of the dark."

"Oh yeah?" I smirked running my fingers through his nappy curls. I intended to tease him more for that, but he began to distract me.

The feeling of his lips on my neck was nothing but euphoric. This was complete agony. As he continued to kiss my skin, I slightly started to rock my hips back and forth against him. He groaned into my neck.

"Please." He begged.

"What?" I pulled on his hoodie string and his face twisted up. I smiled knowing exactly what I was doing to him. It was kind of fun to see him all worked up like that.

"Kennedy," he breathed finally looking into my eyes.

We stayed like that for a moment. It wasn't completely dark in the room. It wasn't that dark outside, but the storm had cast a grey hue into the room. I could see his eyes pouring into mine.

"Do you want to?" He whispered dragging his fingers across my stomach under the hoodie I was wearing. I nodded eagerly biting my lip.

So I pulled him closer to me crashing against his soft lips. Our hands caressed each other's bodies and we melted into the sheets of his bed together.
