Chapter 104

Evadne was standing in an eerily silent living room.

She fl*pped on the lights with great care, her voice anxious and h oa rse, “Cas sius? Cas sius, where are you?”

Some noises faintly came from the bedroom.

Evadne’s heart started pounding as she moved towards the room, calling, “Cas sius! What’s wrong? Are you feeling ill?!” “Evadne, don’t come in!” Cas sius’s trembling voice came through. His breath was ragged and uneven.

“Cas sius! What the hell was going on? Don’t freak me out!”

Evadne’s face turned pale instantly. She’s about to barge in when the door suddenly swung open with a loud bang.

Cas sius was soaking wet in the dim light, as if he’s just been pulled out of the sea, his handsome face flushed like a tomato.

He’s removed his coat, leaving only a drenched white shirt clinging to his strong b*dy. The shirt’s collar was open wide, revealing skin that’s also abnormally red as if his blood was boiling.

“Cas sius?”

“I’ve been drugged.” Cas sius’s eyes were gradually becoming blurry. He’s struggling to see Evadne clearly, “I took a cold shower, soaked myself in cold water, but this drug is too strong. All the efforts I did was not working at all!”

“What the f u ck?!” Evadne was filled with anger but mostly panic.

She’s a skilled doctor, even capable of performing complex brain surgeries, but she’s completely at a loss in the face of a man drugged into a stupor, a man who’s her brother! “Evadne, this is a trap, get out of the room, lock the door. I can handle this!” Cas sius’s breathing was getting heavier, his eyes bloodshot.

His gazed fell on Evadne’s exposed arm.

He’s terrified by the uncontrollable desire he’s feeling.

This can’t go on or something terrible was going to happen!

“Cas sius! I can’t just leave you like this! I’ll take you out, and we’re going to the hospital right away!”

Evadne had never seen Cas sius in such agony, and she’s on the verge of tears!

She’s about to rush over to support him when she heard a loud crash.

Cas sius had just punched a vase by the door, shattering it!

He then picked up a sharp shard of the vase, holding it tightly in his hand. Blood seeped through his fingers, but he held on to the shard as if punishing himself.

“Cas sius!” Evadne’s heart was aching, tears welling up in her eyes.

She knew Cas sius was on the verge of collapsing.

He’s hurting himself to protect her!

“Evadne, please, just go!” Cas sius’s eyes were filled with lust, and he roared, “Go!”

The banquet hall was bustling with activity.

Emeric was up front, laughing and chatting with Hamiltion, deterring anyone who tried to approach them.

Mainly because Chairman Emeric’s aura was just too intimidating, like a king.

To avoid becoming laughingstock, the lesser-known figures dared not make themselves apparent.

After a few sips of wine, Hamiltion was in high spirits and called his children over to join them.

Mr. Murray invited over Thaddeusand to sit with Emeric.

“Emeric, what do you think of Thaddeus?” Hamiltion looked extremely pleased as he smiled at Emeric. Emeric also responded with a smile, “Mr. Frederic is certainly very talented. Each generation outdoes the last.” Frederic coughed, wondering how Emeric built such a large enterprise with such low emotional intelligence.

Thaddeus was Frederic’s son. Emeric should be praising his genetics, not saying his son outperformed him.

“Haha. Thaddeus is nothing compared to me when I was young! I had far more taste and vision!” Hamiltion said, “But he does have one good quality, a kind heart. His flaw, though, is his stubbornness. He never listens to my advice.”

Hamiltion looked very disappointed.

Thaddeus remained silent, sipping his coffee with a poker face.

“Thaddeus wasn’t as bad as you make him out to be. As the company’s president, everyone can see his achievements. Among the younger generation. Thaddeus was doing the best.” Frederic defended Thaddeus.

He’s also defending his own pride. After all, he can’t appear weak in front of a competitor.

“Huh, wasn’t that what Thaddeus was supposed to do? If a president can’t demonstrate exceptional skill and vision, then I’ll find someone else who can!” Hamiltion, clearly dissatisfied with Frederic, took every opportunity to attack him.

“Young men who can accomplish what you just described are few and far between in Elmsworth. Mr. Thaddeus has already done very well, setting a good example for the younger generation.” Emeric said.

After Thaddeus took over the company, its performance has dramatically improved, and his reforms turned the company into Elmsworth’s top conglomerate in just three years.

Although Hamiltion criticized Thaddeus on the surface, Emeric can tell that he’s actually delighted with him.

“Oh! It seemed you really admire Thaddeus?” Hamiltion asked Emeric with a smile, “Should our two families form a closer alliance, perhaps through marriage? What do you think?”

Thaddeus’s face changed, and he said sternly, “Don’t joke around.”

Emeric was also surprised.

“Emeric, as far as I know, you have three daughters. Have there been any new additions to the family recently?” Hamiltion asked seriously.

“I still have just those three daughters. I have nine children in total. That’s enough, I don’t plan on having more.”

“And, are your three daughters married?”

Emeric chuckled awkwardly, “My eldest daughter, Daryl Ashbourne, is already married overseas. My youngest, Nydia Ashbourne, is still studying. She’s a bit too young, sol want her to enjoy her life more.”

“You have another daughter, your favourite one, what’s her name again.”

Emeric’s eyes softened, “Evadne.”

Thaddeus’s hand shook slightly at the mention of this name, his face turning even darker.

“Right! Evadne! I remember her from when she was a little girl. I’ve met her before! She was such a well-behaved and beautiful child!” Hamiltion’s smile deepened, “I guess Evadne must be in her mid-twenties now? Does she have a boyfriend yet?”

“Not yet.”

“So, what do you think about Thaddeus?”

Emeric was speechless. How could Mr. Hamiltion not understand that he didn’t want to marry Evadne to Thaddeus?

Talking about wishful thinking!

“I’m getting married soon.” Thaddeus gritted his teeth, anger flaring up at the thought of Evadne. “Even if I wasn’t getting married, even if I didn’t have a girlfriend, there’s no way I’d ever have a chance with Miss Evadne!”

Just as Hamiltion was about to speak, Emeric interrupted with a frown, “Mr. Thaddeus, what’s this I’m hearing? Are you implying that Evadne isn’t good enough for you? My precious daughter, who I wouldn’t even marry off to the Prime Minister’s son or a royal prince, is somehow not good enough for you? Who gave you such confidence to dismiss her without even meeting her? That’s pretty hasty, don’t you think?”

If Mr. Hamiltion weren’t present, Emeric would’ve been even more blunt.

This Thaddeus really had some nerve!

“Miss Evadne is very accomplished. We’ve crossed paths in the business world before. She’s smart, courageous, and as good as any man.” Thaddeus said, his eyes dark but his tone neither humble nor arrogant. “But our personalities clash. That boundary can’t be crossed, no matter how hard you push.”

“Enough with the ‘one-day’ talk! Let’s set a date for tomorrow or the day after. I’ll arrange for Thaddeus and Evadne to meet. Maybe this so-called boundary will turn out to be nothing more than a paper wall, easily torn down! It’s settled then!” Hamiltion declared, slamming his hand on the table for emphasis.

Mr. Hamiltion, in his effort to prevent Thaddeus from marrying Acacia, had started to play matchmaker blindly!

Thaddeus’s handsome face was clouded with frustration. Just as he was about to decline outright, Elspeth finally blurted out, “Thaddeus is about to marry Acacia! It’s really inappropriate for you to introduce Miss Evadne to him now!”

“But they’re not married yet.” Hamiltion’s smile vanished, his gaze intimidating. “Marriage and business partnerships aren’t that different. Until the contract is signed, anything could happen!”

“But news of Thaddeus and Acacia’s engagement has already been released. What would people think of Miss Evadne if anything were to happen now?” Elspeth scoffed. “Miss Evadne was Chairman Emeric’s precious daughter. The Abernathy family can’t just mess with her like that!”

“Elspeth, you’d better shut up!” Frederic, afraid of Elspeth’s sharp tongue provoking Mr. Hamiltion, quickly pulled her away.

Hamiltion, seething with anger, was choking, and his face was turning red.

Emeric watched all of this quietly, sipping his wine.

The Abernathy family was a real circus. Who in their right mind would let their daughter into this den of wolves?

Seeing Mr. Hamiltion’s coughing getting worse, Frederic, Thaddeus, and Mr. Murray all stepped forward to comfort him.

“I don’t need you all hovering around me! Where’s Ilana? Get Ilana to come and keep me company!” Hamiltion shouted, his face red and flustered.

In Mr. Hamiltion’s heart, Ilana was his favourite child. He couldn’t breathe easily without her around.

“Speaking of, where is Miss Ilana? I haven’t seen her for quite some time now.” Glynnis pretended to be surprised, but she was secretly delighted.

Just then, as if on cue, Acacia strolled over.

“Acacia, did you see Ilana when you came in? Mr. Hamiltion was looking for her.” Glynnis asked hastily.

“I did.” Acacia shyly intertwined her fingers, her eyes darting around as if she was hesitant to speak. “But I’m not sure if I should say this.”
