A Sleepover
Dealer's Girl
Madi POV:
Lexa and I arrived at my apartment and she paid the Uber guy. He drove off and we stood in the chilly air.
"You need me to walk you to the door?" Lexa asked, by the smile on her face I can tell she remembers our conversation two months ago.
"I'm sure I can manage." I smiled back.
"Alright then, goodnight Madi." Lexa turned to leave.
"Wait." I spoke up. Lexa turned around and faced me. Her eyebrow raised as she waited for me to continue. "Why don't you just stay? It's late and...cold."
Lexa was silent as she stared at me. I was slightly scared she was gonna reject me.
"Okay." Lexa agreed.
She hasn't been to my apartment since the whole...Netflix and Chill thing. She followed behind me as we arrived at my door. I reached in my bag and pulled out my keys. After unlocking the door she and I walked in and I locked the door behind us.
The first thing I did was remove those dang heels because they hurt.
Lexa put the trident on the floor as she removed the headband from her hair. I did the same and also took off the wings.
We were both silent.
"Are you hungry? We didn't eat at the party and I'm starving." I stood.
"I could eat." She nodded.
"Wanna order out?" I reached into the cabinet and pulled out the takeout menus.
"What are you feeling? Pizza?" Lexa asked.
"You read my mind. I am craving pizza." I smile.
Lexa did too. She ordered us a pizza and I decided to get changed while we waited. I then realized she didn't have a change of clothes.
"I can get you something to wear. And a makeup wipe." I rushed to my room and dug through my drawers. I pulled out a bright yellow shirt and a pink shirt. I grabbed two pairs of black shorts before reaching forward and snatching the makeup wipes.
When I walked back to the living room I saw Lexa sitting on the couch, looking through a book.
My sketch book.
"Do you like them?" I asked.
Lexa's head lifted and she stared at me. "These are amazing."
I drew animals, landscapes, flowers, all the above.
"Thanks." I felt my cheeks turn red. "Here." I tossed Lexa the pink shirt and black shorts.
"Pink?" Lexa grimaced.
"It's my second favorite color, my first favorite color is-" I began.
"Yellow." Lexa finished. I nodded.
The next thing that happened was the most shocking thing ever.
Lexa just whipped off her shirt. Her bra remained as she put the pink shirt on. Then she reached under and undid her bra, putting it with her shirt. She looked back at me for a moment and did a double take when she saw I was gaping.
"What?" Lexa questioned.
"You just...then you...and...now..." I stuttered, not able to make a full sentence.
"It's just a bra." Lexa smiled.
I took a deep breath, realizing I was the only one making a deal out of this. "Right. Just a bra." I was gonna whip off my shirt but remembered I was wearing a dress so that wouldn't work. "Can you unzip me?"
"Sure." She nodded. I spun around as she unzipped my dress. Her hands lingered on my back for a moment and I swear my face was tomato red. "How did you zip this on your own?"
"It was a pain in the butt." I muttered, still facing away as I put my shirt on. I undid my bra and took it off. When I turned back around I noticed she already changed her pants.
"Can I take one?" Lexa hovered her hand over the makeup wipes.
"Yeah. Take two. Or three." I rambled.
Lexa only smiled and took two wipes with her to the bathroom to look in the mirror. I finished getting changed and grabbed two wipes to join her. I scrubbed the makeup off my face as she did the same.
After our makeup was off we sat on the couch and waited for the food. Then the pizza arrived, we ate and got ready for bed. It was almost one.
Lexa laid on the couch, closing her eyes.
"What are you doing?" I questioned.
"I was gonna go to sleep. What are you doing?" Lexa asked, her eyes were still closed.
"Oh...I just thought you'd sleep in my bed." I shrugged. Lexa's eyes flew open and she stared at me. Maybe I should've worded that differently. "I just meant...it's a nice bed and a big one so there's no reason for you to sleep on the couch."
Lexa sat up and stared at me. "Then lead the way."
I smiled as I stood and showed her to my room. She looked around. It was kinda messy but I tried to keep it as clean as possible. My blankets obviously had sunflowers on them and my walls were lined with pictures. My art, my friends, Mary Ann.
I watched Lexa look at the pictures. Her eyes lingered on Mary Ann.
"Oh, that's Mary Ann." I told her.
"Mary Ann." She repeated, her eyes continued to stare at the woman.
"Yeah, she was the caretaker for the foster kids. She's the best." I smiled at the picture. I do miss her.
Her eyes then drifted down to another picture. There were two young girls. They were both around six. Arms wrapped around each other in a bone crushing hug.
"And...uh...who's this?" Lexa pointed at the picture.
"Oh, that was my best friend Lexi." My voice got lower as I spoke about a girl I haven't seen in years.
"Was?" Lexa asked.
"Yeah, she was my best friend. When we were twelve she left the house in the middle of the night. I never saw her again." I sighed.
"That...that must've sucked." Lexa kept staring at the picture.
"Worse part? I don't even know why. I thought things were great and then boom, she's gone." I cleared my throat as I felt the tears cloud my vision. "Anyway, that was years ago. It's in the past."
Lexa faced me. "I'm sorry...I'm sorry that happened to you."
"It's okay." I smiled. "I'm sure see's living a good life out there."
"Maybe." Lexa nodded.
I moved towards the bed and got under the covers. "That party took a lot out of me." I yawned.
Lexa got in bed too. "Yeah, that loud ass music gave me a headache." She rubbed her temples.
"A goodnight sleep in this cloud of a bed will cure your headache." I laid my head down on the pillow and she did the same.
"This is a really soft bed." Lexa rolled onto her side to face me.
I did the same so I faced her. "I know...goodnight, Lexa."
"Goodnight, Madi." Lexa replied before we were both out like a light.
The bright sun caused my eyes to shut even tighter. I tried to dig my head into the pillow but I couldn't. My eyes fluttered open and I found my head laying on Lexa's chest. How cliché.
I slowly pulled away and sat up, rubbing my eyes. I looked at the digital clock on my bedside table. Ten forty. I left the room and went towards the bathroom to do my morning routine. After I finished all that I left the bathroom. Before I could walk back in the bedroom, Lexa popped out.
I flinched as she scared me.
"Sorry. Did I scare you?" Lexa smirked.
"No." I laughed, totally lying.
"Right. Uh, I had to cut this sleepover short but I gotta get home." Lexa looked at the time on her phone.
"Oh." I tried not to sound too disappointed. "Is something wrong?"
"No, I just have this...meeting thing. I can text you later." Lexa slipped on her shoes. When she stood her eyes remained on the pink shirt she was wearing. "I can't be seen in public like this."
"It's, like, a five minute walk." I smiled at her.
"Too far." Lexa shook her head. She groaned before picking up her clothes from yesterday. "I hate November first."
"At least today's Saturday." I shrugged. I walked towards my apartment door. "Are you sure you have to leave now?"
"Yeah, the meeting's at eleven thirty." Lexa sighed, she held her clothes in her hand.
I moved towards the kitchen and got her a plastic bag.
"Thanks." Lexa smiled. After that she opened the apartment door and turned to me once more. "I'll text you later, okay?"
"Can you also text me when you get home?" I asked. Then I realized how crazy I sound. "Just so I know-"
"That I got home safe." Lexa finished with a knowing smile.
I smiled back and then moved forward to hug her. Lexa wrapped her open arm around my shoulder.
"Thanks for letting me crash here." Lexa said, pulling away.
"Yeah, of course. Maybe we can do it again?" It sounded more like a question.
"Yeah. Why not?" Lexa gave me one last smile before walking down the hallway and out of the building. I rushed over to the window and watched as she began to walk down the sidewalk back to her apartment building.
