Chapter 11

Jealousy?

Dealer's Girl

Madi POV:

March. It's such a random month.

It was Friday and there was a party for St. Patrick's Day tonight. I wasn't going, I'd rather just stay in after all the tests I had this week. Maybe if Lizzie or one of my friends hosted then I would go, but it was at a random seniors house.

I wasn't really a party girl anyway.

After getting some comfy clothes on, I walked to Lexa's apartment. I was bored and wanted to order food and hang out with her.

Before I could knock on her door I heard voices. I lightly knocked on the door. Silence.

About three seconds later Lexa opened the door. She wore black ripped jeans with fishnets under them. A black tank top with a green flannel.

Lexa's eyebrows were furrowed until she realized it was me. "Madi. What are you doing here, sunshine?"

My heart fluttered at the nickname. She always called me the most random things.

And I liked it.

"I just wanted to come over. I would've texted but-" I got cut off.

"Who's that?" Another voice called. I looked over Lexa's shoulder and saw another girl. I know her, she's in a couple of my classes.

"Hi, Ruby." I waved.

"Madi. Hey, girl." Ruby waved. She was lounging on Lexa's couch. Beside her was a boy. Aiden, I think?

"Wassup, Madi-Moon." Aiden waved. He was smoking weed. "Get it, Madi-Moon. 'Cause your name is Madison, sounds like Madi-Sun. So I just replaced-"

"Yeah, we get it." Lexa nodded.

"Sorry, I'm already high as fuck." Aiden laughed to himself, leaning his head back as he passed the weed to Ruby.

"Is everything okay?" Lexa put her back to her guests and whispered to me.

"Yeah, I just wanted to see you." I nodded.

"Aww, how sweet." Ruby mocked.

"Shush." Lexa looked over her shoulder.

"I-I can come back later." I went to leave.

Lexa opened her mouth to speak but Ruby beat her to it. "No, stay! I was just kidding."

"Yeah, stay." Lexa walked over to the back wall and opened a window. She also turned on her vanilla diffuser and motioned to the chair beside it. I walked past her and sat on the chair.

"Are you going to the party tonight, Madi-Moon?" Aiden rolled his head over to where I was sitting.

"Uh, no." I shook my head.

"Bummer, Lexa is." Ruby looked over at Lexa.

"You are?" My voice was barely heard.

"No." Lexa rolled her eyes, taking the weed and smoking it herself.

"Come on, please." Ruby whined.

"No. I hate partying." Lexa was sitting standing as there was nowhere else to sit.

"But we'll be there." Ruby motioned to herself and Aiden.

"Great, then you have each other." Lexa handed the blunt back to Aiden. "I have this one to hang with." She motioned to me.

Ruby's eyes drifted to me and she almost looked...angry.

There was another knock at the door.

"Oh, come on." Lexa muttered angrily. She got up and walked to the door. There were two men there. She looked over her shoulder and us before shoving them into the hallway. "I'll be right back." She told us before she went out into the hallway too.

The three of us sat in silence.

"So...Madi..." Ruby spoke up and I looked over at her. "How did you meet Lexa? You clearly don't do drugs...and she's a drug dealer."

"I got lost on my way home from a party and came here." I told her.

"You knocked on a random person's door!?" Ruby sat up.

"Well, no, I met her earlier that evening." I corrected.

Ruby nodded, sitting back. "And you two just...hang out. Without drugs?"

"Yeah." I nodded.

"Lexa's single, right?" Ruby spoke up again.

"As far as I know." I answered.

"Do you think I should ask her out?" Ruby smirked.

"Careful, Ruby, we can see your desperation." Aiden said, his eyes were still closed. She slapped his chest.

I felt a weird pain in my chest. Was it from the smoke I was inhaling?

"Madi?" Ruby's voice brought me back to her.

"Yeah?" I looked back up.

"I called your name, are you okay?" Ruby asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine." I replied quickly.

"Okay, so should I ask her out?" Ruby went back to her question.

And the pain was back.

"If you want." I shrugged. I really hoped she didn't. I really hope Lexa didn't agree.

I really wish I was the one asking Lexa instead.

"Alright, I'm gonna do it." Ruby smiled.

As if on cue, there was a knock at the door.

Then another.

"Are we supposed to get that?" Aiden whispered loudly.

"It's me! I don't have my key!" Lexa's voice rang from the other side.

I stood to open the door but Ruby beat me to it.

"Thanks." Lexa replied, simply walking past her.

"Who was it?" I asked.

"Nobody important." Lexa waved off. "Don't you two have a party to get to?" She looked at Aiden and Ruby.

"Kicking us out already, how rude." Aiden had a teasing smirk on as he stood.

"Are you sure you don't wanna come with?" Ruby walked up to Lexa. A little too close.

Lexa stared at her for a moment before her eyes drifted back over to me. I looked away but I'm sure she saw me staring.

"I'm sure." Lexa replied. I looked back over as she walked to her door and held it open for them.

Ruby looked back at me with a glare on her face before following Aiden out the door.

"Thanks for buying, let me know if you need any more." Lexa told them.

"Sure." Ruby put a smile back on her face and they were gone. Lexa shut the door and turned to face me again.

"I'm sorry for barging in. I should've texted." I apologized.

She walked towards me and smiled slightly. "You know you can always come over."

"Who was at the door?" I asked.

Her smile dropped as her face went serious. "Buyers."

"You didn't take any...drugs out with you though." I whispered the word as if someone was around to hear me.

"Madi." She said my name. "It's nothing you should worry about."

I hated the way she was staring at me right now. I know it involved drugs but I don't know why she thinks she can't talk to me about it. Sure I won't understand any of it but I'll always listen to her. It feels like I always tell her about my problems but she doesn't trust me enough to tell me hers.

"Do you trust me?" I blurted out the question.

Lexa looked baffled. "What? Of course I do."

"Then why won't you talk to me? You can tell me anything. I'll never look at you differently." I stood so we were face to face.

That same nervous look I've seen before covered her face. "It's just work. You don't need to know about drug deals."

"Fine." I sighed, sitting back down.

Lexa looked up at the ceiling as she took a deep breath. "The guys at the door are the ones who give me the drugs." She looked back down at me.

"You don't have to tell me about it if you don't want to. I just want you to know you can talk to me." I told her.

"I know. I am talking to you." Lexa reached forward and grabbed my hands, pulling me up and over to the couch where we sat back down. "They were just asking how business was going. I told them I had buyers inside and I would meet with them another day."

"Max." I remembered when he called her phone.

"Yeah. Max and Henry." Lexa nodded.

We were silent for a moment.

"Is that all?" I asked.

Lexa's eyes drifted down to the bracelet she was wearing...the one I got her. "Yeah, that's all."

"Do Ruby and Aiden buy from you a lot?" I asked.

"Sometimes. You know how Jack was the supplier before?" Lexa asked and I nodded. "Now they are. He doesn't come around anymore. Thank God." She whispered that last part.

"Ruby has a crush on you." I played with the blanket on the couch.

"I know." Lexa answered and I looked up at her.

"Do you like her?" I squeezed the blanket tighter.

Lexa smirked a bit. "Not really. I think I may like someone else."

"Who?" I whispered, leaning closer.

Before she could answer there was a knock at the door. Are you kidding me!?

Lexa sighed hard before storming to the door. She opened it. "What?" She did not sound happy.

"We need to talk." Was that Jack?

"Jack?" I stood.

He looked over her shoulder and at me. "Madi?"

"What do you want?" Lexa looked him up and down. He was wearing green, probably going to the party.

"I want to know why you won't deal to me anymore." Jack stepped inside.

"I thought you said he doesn't come by." I looked at Lexa.

Jack raised his eyebrows at her.

"I deal to whoever I want to. And I don't wanna deal to you." Lexa shrugged.

"See, Madi? She's a liar." Jack pointed at her.

"You're a creep. Obsessed with a girl just because she doesn't have a crush on you." Lexa crossed her arms.

"Obsessed?" I repeated.

"Madi. Lexa is-" Jack began.

"Lexa is what?" Lexa stepped closer to him.

Jack backed up, clearly intimidated.

"Look, I have no idea why you two are friends. Lexa, you hate almost everyone you meet. Especially girls like Madi. And Madi, Lexa is such a dangerous person it's almost like you're trying to get involved with her criminal life." Jack ranted.

"My 'criminal life'." Lexa muttered with a laugh.

"Jack." I spoke up and the two looked at me. "I'm friends with Lexa because..." Because she reminds me of someone I used to be friends with? Because I'm in love with her?

"Because?" Jack repeated when I stopped talking.

"Because I can be. You say all these bad things about her yet the only reason you do is because I spend my time with her. You were the one who brought me here and I'm glad you did. Now, stop bringing this conversation up because it won't change the way I see her." I took a deep breath when I finished.

Both Lexa and Jack looked at me in shock.

A smile came over Lexa's face and she began to clap. She looked over at Jack. "You surely can't come back from that."

Jack said nothing but glared at Lexa. He looked back at me with a pleading look but I looked away. Three seconds later I heard a door slam and Jack was gone.

Looks like I wasn't the only jealous one here.
