Chapter 453: 453: This is the Style of the Greats
The Young Urban Doctor
After finishing breakfast, Luo Ziling also parted ways with Yang Qingyin, each heading back to their respective dormitories.
When Luo Ziling got back to the dormitory, the other three guys were just getting ready to get out of bed.
Seeing Luo Ziling return so late in the morning, they all reacted with surprise and started to exclaim.
âBoss, youâd better not deny that you stayed at a hotel last night,â Cao Jianhui looked at Luo Ziling with a lecherous smile, âYou have a strong fragrance of a woman on you, very nice. Is it Goddess Yang or Goddess Ouyang?â
As a result, Cao Jianhuiâs comment earned him a heavy slap on the head from Luo Ziling, which made him cry out in pain.
âBoss, you really do have the scent of a woman on you,â Wu Longjiang, who had jumped down from the upper bunk, moved closer to Luo Ziling and sniffed, giggling, âIt really smells good; Iâm intoxicated!â
After saying that, Wu Longjiang quickly slipped into the bathroom to avoid a beating from Luo Ziling.
âWhat do you want to say?â As Li Fuming climbed down from the bed and also wanted to come over to smell him, Luo Ziling grabbed him by the chest and lifted him up, threatening fiercely, âSpit it out quickly if you have something to say!â
Li Fuming, with his feet off the ground and body suspended in the air, hurried to struggle.
After struggling free from Luo Zilingâs grip, he darted away with a giggle, teasing Luo Ziling further, âI wonât say that the womanly scent on you smells nice, nor will I join them in saying that you definitely stayed with a woman last night.â
Luo Ziling almost burst out laughing from irritation but eventually came up with a lame excuse to explain his whereabouts the previous night, âI was at my motherâs place last night, helping her with some massage treatments.â
âWho would believe that,â Cao Jianhui hung his head and said mockingly, âWhen did a mother pop up for you? Isnât your hometown in the Northwest?â
âMy mom is in Yanjing,â Luo Ziling thought for a moment, then pulled up a side view photograph of Ling Ruonan from his phone and showed it to the three guys, âThis is my mom. Sheâs in Yanjing. I go there often. My mom is pretty good-looking. Iâll take you guys out for dinner sometime to meet her.â
It was after Luo Ziling said this and showed them the photograph that the suspicions of Cao Jianhui and the others were slightly alleviated.
âAlright, get ready for class, you havenât had breakfast, right? Youâre going to be late!â Luo Ziling smiled, âIn the future, I might often visit my motherâs place, so donât be surprised. She works hard, and I need to go over there and help her with massage treatments.â
âOkay, we believe you,â Cao Jianhui, seeing Luo Ziling speak sincerely, finally believed him, but still teased him with a comment, âBut we would still prefer to think you went off to a hotel room with some goddess.â
Once again, he received a kick from Luo Ziling and quickly ran away.
What surprised Luo Ziling was that at noon, just when they were about to go to the cafeteria to have lunch, the cardiologist expert Li Mingxun whom he had met the day before actually came to the school looking for him. And he was accompanied by the Dean of the Medical Faculty, Wu Mingyun.
âZiling, hello,â Li Mingxun took the initiative to extend his hand to Luo Ziling and said with a smile, âYour Dean was my classmate back in the day. We slept in bunk beds. Today I asked him to accompany me in coming to find you.â
Luo Ziling had only seen Dean Wu Mingyun at the new student orientation and the welcome party, but he had never interacted with him.
He quickly stepped forward to greet him, âDean Wu, good day.â
Wu Mingyun, wearing glasses and exuding the temperament of a scholar, shook Luo Zilingâs hand firmly and smiled, âDirector Li told me that yesterday you used medicine you prepared yourself, combined with your familyâs traditional medical skills, to successfully pull Mr. Wang back from the Grim Reaperâs grasp. Heâs quite curious, and Iâm very surprised as well. We came here today to learn more about your ancestral medicine.â
Luo Ziling hesitated a bit. In fact, he was reluctant to share too much about his familyâs medical practices, as many things were difficult to explain and inconvenient to discuss.
For instance, the famous âTaiyi Divine Needleâ alongside Burning Mountain Fire and Piercing Sky Cooling acupuncture skills â many people donât believe such techniques could yield such effective results, especially those trained in Western medicine. Treating with âqiâ-guided needles appeared to some like a circus act, and since âqiâ is something intangible and invisible, not even modern devices can detect it, thus making it hard to explain clearly. Especially in recent years, as traditional medicine declined and many labeled Chinese medicine as pseudoscience, the advancement of Western medicine further marginalized traditional practices.
Luo Ziling knew the renowned physicians of today were mostly those practicing Western medicine. Famous practitioners of traditional medicine existed only among the folk, often lacking formal recognition. Moreover, in the public eye, renowned Chinese doctors were usually very old, because Chinese medicine relies heavily on experience. At his age, few would believe he possessed such formidable medical skills.
Li Mingxun seemed to notice Luo Zilingâs hesitation and explained with a smile, âZiling, donât be nervous. We just want to discuss the efficacy of your ancestral medicine and the principles behind your needling technique. Many years ago, I encountered an amazing Chinese medicine practitioner just like you, named Luo Liansheng. Mr. Luoâs superb medical skills amazed me. I learned a lot from him and managed to save many lives as a result. Meeting another traditional healer surnamed Luo today feels like fate to me.â
Upon hearing that Li Mingxun knew his grandfather, Luo Ziling was greatly surprised.
He could no longer refuse to engage with these two medical authorities.
The students and the teacher who had been in the classroom left, so the three of them sat down in the empty space to discuss the treatment Luo Ziling had provided for Mr. Wang the day before.
Li Mingxun was a renowned expert in cardiology, and Wu Mingyun was also an authority on cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. If people knew that these two famous experts were proactively seeking medical insights from a first-year undergraduate student, they would be astounded.
âLuo Liansheng is my grandfather,â Luo Ziling volunteered his family background, âIâve been studying medicine with him since I was a child.â
âNo wonder,â laughed Li Mingxun, âI always thought you resembled Mr. Luo Liansheng. When I came here today, I even mentioned to Dean Wu that you might be a descendant of Mr. Luo.â
âNo wonder, no wonder,â Wu Mingyun also echoed with admiration, âTurns out youâre a descendant of Mr. Luo; itâs no surprise that youâre exhibiting such remarkable abilities, even just as a first-year student who has not yet begun to learn real medical skills.â
Hearing Li Mingxun respectfully refer to his grandfather as âteacherâ, Luo Ziling couldnât help but feel a bit proud.
It seemed that his grandfather had quite a reputation and had impressed many people back in the day.
âWhat I donât understand,â Li Mingxun asked, puzzled, âis why, given your grandfatherâs excellent medical skills back then, is he even more impressive now, yet he let you come to study Western medicine?â
Wu Mingyun was also visibly curious.
Luo Ziling could answer this question with ease by now, and immediately responded, âIntegrating Chinese and Western medicine, taking the strengths from each to compensate for the weaknesses, only then can one truly achieve greatness as a healer.â
Luo Zilingâs answer deeply moved the two medical authorities.
âThis is indeed the demeanor of a master!â
