CH 26
Dressed as a Stand-in for the White Moonlight
Su Yuli thanked grandfather Lin and wanted to give the apple to Lin Suiyan.
After listening to Su Yuliâs words, Master Lin nodded. He didnât know how busy and tired Lin Suiyan would be. He just wanted to tease his grandson.
When he saw Lin Suiyan hadnât explained himself yet but that Su Yuli had become nervous first, he couldnât help laughing. He patted the bed and motioned for Su Yuli to sit down.
âXiao Jin, you are the little lucky star of our Lin family.â The old man took Su Yuliâs hand and smiled: âAs soon as you came to our house, everything in the family was fine, and my health was fine. Old Kang also told me that during this period of time, Suiyan has become more cheerful and has been smiling more. Isnât it outrageous that heâs so young, but heâs been frowning every day and looking more and more bitter? Isnât it unreasonable?â
Su Yuli glanced at Lin Suiyan and the smile on his lips deepened. He nodded and answered the old manâs words: âThatâs very outrageous.â
Su Yuli was sweet-mouthed and quick-witted. When the old man spoke, he peeled the apple, cut it into pieces, and handed it to the old man with a toothpick.
The old man took Su Yuli to eat together.
Seeing that Su Yuli was getting along well with the old man, Lin Suiyanâs expression looked very soft. In fact, he wasnât worried at all. No one would dislike Wen Jin.
Lin Suiyan has been dealing with the companyâs affairs all the time since heâd transmigrated here. Then there was a car accident, and he spent some time recuperating.
During this time, Old Master Lin was looked after by the housekeeper, Uncle Kang. Thinking about it, Uncle Kang had said a lot of good things about Su Yuli. So the old man had a very good impression of Su Yuli.
After today, the old man should like him more.
While Su Yuli was talking to the old man, Lin Suiyan asked the doctor about the old manâs condition. He was relieved to learn that his condition was stable.
When he returned to the room, Su Yuli and Old Man Lin were a little reluctant to part.
Seeing them holding hands and face to face, he almost hugged his head and cried. Lin Suiyan said helplessly, âWeâll come back tomorrow.â
Only then did Su Yuli feel happy. âGrandpa, Suiyan and I will go back first. Iâll see you tomorrow.â
The old man smiled and said, âOkay, okay. Drive slowly on the way back.â
When he got into the car, Su Yuli asked Lin Suiyan, âDid I behave well just now?â
Lin Suiyan smiled and nodded:Â âYou did well.â
Su Yuli looked down, and immediately understood what Lin Suiyan meant. He happily took out a sugar orange from the bag, peeled it and said, âIâll come back tomorrow.â Then he would ask the old man what he liked to eat.
Lin Suiyan said, âIâll have Uncle Kang get ready. Itâs good for you to visit.â
Su Yuli nodded: âOkay.â
There were still a few days before the Chinese New Year. Lin Suiyan was busy with his work, and Su Yuli ran to the nursing home when he was idle. On this day, the old man was clamoring for chocolate.
An old man, no matter how powerful he was when he was young, will be like a child in old age. In the face of the old manâs coquettish behavior, how could Su Yuli have the heart to refuse.
However, to be on the safe side, he still asked the doctor what he needed to avoid. After asking, he went to a nearby supermarket.
After a while, Su Yuli came back with the snacks he had purchased.  He had two large bags in his hand, and when he was still a few meters away from the elevator, he saw the elevator slowly close.
Su Yuli caught a glimpse of someone in the elevator and shouted: âWait a minute!â
The elevatorâs button had been pushed from the inside and the door reopened. Su Yuli walked in quickly, relieved, and turned to the person next to him and said, âThank you.â
There was a young man about the same age as Su Yuli in the elevator. He said, âYouâre welcome.â
Su Yuli and the young manâs eyes met. âItâs you.â The young man was none other than the man Su Yuli had met at the resort not long ago. The one whose bracelet he had picked up.
Encountering each other here, you have to admit, it seems like fate.
Su Yuli moved his bags into one hand. Then he held out his hand to the young man and gave him his name.
The young man shook Su Yuliâs hand back and said, âHello, my name is Ding Yuan.â
Su Yuli said, âI didnât expect to meet you here. Is someone in your family sick?â
Ding Yuan nodded: â My grandmother is here to cultivate herself.â He looked at the two large bags of snacks in Su Yuliâs hand, âYouâ¦â
Noticing Ding Yuanâs gaze, Su Yuli smiled and said, âThis one was bought for my grandfather. The old man is as greedy as a child in his old age.â
âI have a good eye for snacks, even if you donât have teeth you can still enjoy them.â Su Yuli said, âTake it. Itâs a little token of my affection for the elderly.â Â After speaking, he ran away as if afraid of Ding Yuanâs refusal.
Ding Yuan looked at the contents in the bag, chocolate, yogurt, potato chips, peach cake⦠There were so many kinds of snacks, he raised his head. Su Yuli had already disappeared.
Su Yuli happily pushed open the door of the ward with the snacks. Then he put the food on the table like an exhibition, and then introduced their taste, just like a salesman.
Mr. Lin was very supportive. Apart from Mr. Lin and Su Yuli, there were also some old people who came to visit. These old people knew that every time Su Yuli came over, he would bring some novel gadgets.
Young peopleâs things, these old people had never seen, but they were very interested in them. Su Yuli was a sweet talker and often coaxed them to laugh, and the mood would always become very good.
Because of this, every time Su Yuli came over, they would form a group to come over to âgrow their knowledge.â
An old man wearing reading glasses said: âOld Lin is very lucky. His grandson is so sensible.â
âYeah, when Xiao Jin comes, it gets very lively here. Unlike at ours, where every day itâs deserted.â
Su Yuli said: âGrandpa Zhu, Grandpa Xu, your family must be busy with work, so they donât have time to come. When they are done, they will definitely come to see you.â
The two old men laughed: â Xiao Jin can comfort people.â He said to Old Lin again, âOld Lin, weâre both envious in our hearts. We want to take your grandson back.â
Old Lin smiled happily, unable to hide his pride. He said, âYou are envious, but you are not allowed to think of our Xiao Jin.â
Su Yuli watched these old people sitting and bickering together. He smiled and grabbed a banana from the fruit basket and ate it.
When the crowd dispersed and only he and the old man were left in the room, Su Yuli said, âBy the way, Grandpa, the Chinese New Year is coming soon. I discussed it with Suiyan and wanted to take you home for the Chinese New Year. â
Old Lin looked over with a piece of chocolate in his hand.
Su Yuli said: âSuiyan has asked the doctor. Your physical condition is very stable. Youâll be fine for a day at home. The doctor will accompany you when the time comes. We will come back after the New Year.â
After a pause, he added: âGrandpa, Suiyan and I are just making a suggestion. It depends on what you want.â
Old Lin smiled and said, âYou two are newly married, and itâs a sweet time. Wouldnât I disturb your two-person world if I go back?â
Su Yuli opened his eyes wide and shook his head and said, âHow could that be? Itâs the Chinese New Year. The Chinese New Year is when family is busy together.â
In the book, Wen Jin actually wanted to spend the New Year with the old man, but Lin Suiyan disagreed. As a result, they had a cold and cheerless New Year.
Lin Suiyan thought for a while, agreed, and asked Su Yuli to ask what Mr. Lin wanted.
Su Yuli crouched down, held Elder Linâs hand, and said, âGrandpa, come home for the Chinese New Year. Suiyan will be very happy.â
Old Lin said, âSuiyan, that child, doesnât know how to say a few nice words to make me happy. Every year, the house is deserted.â
Su Yuli patted his chest: âGrandpa, that was the past, now he has me. I promise that this yearâs New Year will definitely be different from the one youâve had before. Itâll be lively.â
Old Lin looked at Su Yuliâs expectant gaze and said with a smile: âOkay, okay, then letâs go back and have a lively New Year.â
Su Yuli smiled and rolled his eyes: âWell, Iâll go back and talk to Suiyan.â
On the day he came to pick up Old Lin, Su Yuli brought a present to pay homage to the old people he knew.
The group of old people were very happy, and each gave him a big red envelope. Su Yuli gained a lot. He carried the red envelopes to show off to Lin Suiyan.
Lin Suiyan smiled and said, âLittle rich man.â
Su Yuli didnât forget Ding Yuan either. He followed the room number in his memory to find the room where Ding Yuanâs grandmother was.
Ding Yuan was not in the room, but this didnât affect Su Yuli. He briefly introduced himself, claiming to be Ding Yuanâs friend, who happened to be here for business.
Su Yuli said a lot of auspicious words, and the laughter on the old womanâs face never stopped. He returned with the big red apple given by the old woman.
New Yearâs Eve.
Aunt Xu cooked a sumptuous dinner.
After dinner, the sound of fireworks was heard outside.
Su Yuli went out and saw that it was the nearby residents who set off fireworks in the yard. They were laughing and arguing, so happy and lively.
On such a happy day for families, Su Yuli felt homesick.
Su Yuli was lost for a while, but soon regained his spirit.
Mother Su often said that happiness is one day, and unhappiness is also one day.1 He couldnât find a way to go back in a short time. It would be better to be happy every day. Only in this way can we live up to this wonderful time.
Su Yuli patted his cheek and drove away his disappointment. He got up and took out a sparkler (a handheld firework)2Â which heâd bought previously, and then called Old Lin and Lin Suiyan to the yard.
In a family like the Lin family, no one would set off fireworks during Chinese New Year.
Su Yuli was still studying and was very interested in these things. Every Chinese New Year, he was responsible for setting off fireworks and firecrackers in the Su family to stimulate the atmosphere at home.
At this time, Su Yuli handed the sparkler to Old Lin and Lin Suiyan respectively, and he lit another two. Holding a sparkler in one hand, he drew circles with his arm while telling interesting jokes about the Chinese New Year, which made the old man laugh.
This New Year, as Su Yuli had promised, is very lively.
Elder Lin was getting older, so he played with Su Yuli and Lin Suiyan outside for a while, then went back to his room to rest.
Su Yuli and Lin Suiyan stayed in the garden. They put out all the fireworks they took out, and then went back to their room.
After taking a shower, Su Yuli and Lin Suiyan stood side by side in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows.
There are gorgeous fireworks outside the window. Inside the room, the temperature is suitable and the atmosphere is excellent. It was unknown who leaned in first. When they reacted, it was like already dry wood stirring up an already raging fire.
The temperature in the room gradually increased.
The New Yearâs bell rang, Lin Suiyan leaned down intertwined his fingers with Su Yuli, and whispered in his ear, âListen.â
Su Yuli was soaked to the skin. He gasped for breath. Still struggling to raise his upper body, he kissed Lin Suiyanâs adamâs apple and said in a hoarse voice: âHappy New Year.â
A slight smile appeared on Lin Suiyanâs lips, and he kissed Su Yuliâs forehead lightly, âHappy New Years.â
My love.

1.Feeling happy is a for a day, feeling unhappy is also for another day-why donât we happily and positively face everyday?
2.ä»å¥³æ£- I chose to translate this as âsparklerâ because thatâs what I call this type of firework and I donât know what other people call them. Translated literally it comes out as âfairy stickâ which I think sounds cute. The author put in the âhandheld fireworkâ in the parenthesis (that wasnât me.) Which I found interesting- does that mean she thought her Chinese readers would be unfamiliar with the term she used? Anyway itâs this type of firework:
Now Iâm wondering what other people call this.
