: Chapter 15
It’s Not Summer Without You
Before we headed down to the car I grabbed Conradâs textbooks and notebooks and his laptop and stuffed as much as I could into the North Face backpack Iâd found in his closet. âThis way heâll be able to study for those midterms on Monday,â I said, handing Jeremiah the laptop.
He winked and said, âI like the way you think, Belly Conklin.â
On the way out, we stopped by Ari the RAâs room. His door was open and he was sitting at his desk. Jeremiah popped his head in and said, âHey, Ari. Iâm Conradâs brother, Jeremiah. We found Conrad. Thanks for the heads-up, man.â
Ari beamed at him. âNo problem.â Jeremiah made friends wherever he went. Everyone wanted to be Jeremiah Fisherâs friend.
Then we were on our way. Headed straight to Cousins, full stop. We drove with the windows down, the radio up.
We didnât talk much, but this time I didnât mind. I think we were both too busy thinking. Me, I was thinking about the last time I headed down this road. Only, it hadnât been with Jeremiah. It had been with Conrad.
