Chapter 29

Visiting the Pack

The Alpha's Lone Wolf

ALLIE

Living in the Red Moon Pack with James has proved to be so much better than I had expected. We have grown so close in such a short space of time.

The rest of the pack has made me feel at home. I’m beginning to feel like I belong here.

I’ve fallen into a comfortable routine. I eat breakfast with James every morning before I travel to university with David and Danielle.

They’re still no closer to being friends, but the journey is becoming less awkward as they get used to spending time in each other’s company.

After I finish in Linton for the day, I come back and complete warrior training. I’ve been steadily moving up the training groups.

Only the most experienced warriors have been able to beat me in a fight, but with the advanced training from Lucy, I’m confident that it won’t be long before I’m able to take them on and win.

I’ve had no further trouble from Karen. She stays out of my way, which suits me perfectly.

On the evenings I don’t work at Raffles, I eat dinner in the dining room with James and the pack.

I try to spend some of my time with the ordinary pack members to get to know them better. It feels important. If I’m going to be a part of this pack and be their luna.

And then I spend each night with James. I never imagined that it could be like this. The overwhelming desire I feel for him, the passion we share. I can’t get enough of him.

Today we are going to spend the whole day together. He has refused to tell me what we will be doing—all he will say is that it’s a surprise.

I hate surprises. They have never proven to be anything good in the past.

However, I trust James, and no matter what he has planned, it will be great to spend time alone together.

He’s dressed casually in jeans and a white T-shirt.

“No suit?” I ask, fishing for clues.

“No, there is no need. This won’t be a formal day. No pack business.”

“What are we going to be doing?”

He smirks. “You’ll see.”

I huff with annoyance that he still won’t tell me what he has planned.

“My very impatient mate will just have to control her curiosity for a little while longer.” He kisses my forehead. “Come on. Let’s grab a quick breakfast and then we can head out.”

Thirty minutes later, we’re in his sports car driving away from pack territory. It isn’t long before I realize we are heading in the direction of his lodge. I smile, thinking back to that perfect day.

“Are we going back to the lodge?”

“No, not this time. We are going to visit my pack.”

“Your pack?” I start to feel nervous.

He hasn’t mentioned introducing me to the Silver Fang Pack before. I know that it has to happen at some point, but I’d hoped it wouldn’t be for a little while longer.

I don’t think it will go well. Fitting in with the Red Moon Pack is one thing, but the Silver Fang Pack hates loners like me.

They won’t want me as their luna. I just have to look at Karen’s reaction to know what awaits me.

Sensing my anxiety, James grabs my hand.

“Don’t stress about meeting them. I know it’s difficult for you, and having never been around a pack until recently, you’re bound to be nervous. But they’re dying to meet their new luna.”

“They won’t want a rogue like me as their luna.”

“You’re not a rogue, and once they get to know you, they will grow to love you. You’re a strong caring wolf with all the qualities that are essential in a pack luna. They will see that about you.”

I melt, overcome by his confidence in me.

“Anyway, today you’ll only be meeting a few members of the pack. We’ll hold off the formal introduction to the whole pack for another time.”

When we arrive, he takes me straight to the pack house.

It’s larger than the Red Moon Pack building, but I can see that it’s more functional and less luxurious. More in keeping with James’s style as alpha.

“I’m going to take you to our private rooms. The person I want you to meet first is already there waiting for us.”

When we walk through the door, a group of ten wolves is standing in the entrance hall.

They bow their heads. “Alpha.”

James nods at them, acknowledging their greeting. “This is my mate, Allie.”

As one, they turn to look at me curiously.

I smile at them shyly, and when they smile back I start to relax.

“I’ll introduce you to your luna properly later, but for now we have an appointment in my rooms.”

“Of course, Alpha, I’ll arrange for coffee to be sent there,” one of them says.

We walk away and I ask, “Who is our appointment with?”

“My mother. This is a perfect opportunity for you to meet her, and she’s the best person to provide you with luna training. She was the luna of this pack for thirty years.”

I stop. ~Oh no~. His mother?

All my nervousness from before returns with a vengeance. I know that I need to meet her soon, as she’s important to James, but I curse him for not giving me any advance notice.

I would have worn different clothes. I would have prepared.

What is she going to think of me? She has to have wanted someone better than me for her son.

“I know this is a bit of a shock for you, but I knew if I warned you that you would be meeting my mother today, you would have stressed about it.

“I don’t want you to worry about meeting her. She’s so happy that I’ve finally found my mate. She’s excited to meet you. Relax. It won’t be as bad as you think. I promise you.”

He squeezes my hand reassuringly, and I follow him up the stairs.
