CH 40.2
Married To A Savage Duke
âDid you know that the concept of public health, which was an important cornerstone of medical development a long time ago, had originated from a particular book? This historical book is located on the third floor of our library.â Albert rubbed his hands together. âWashing your hands well and drinking clean water in a pristine environment can prevent disease. Arenât you quite surprised that we learned such basic concepts from books? Iâm so glad weâre living in such an advanced era.â
âHahaha.â
Cherryl, who had experienced an era of incomparable technology and development, flashed him an awkward smile.
Although this era of transcendent existence also had impressive characteristics.ââ-
âA lot of literature about anatomy, which was taboo until a few decades ago, can also be found on the third floor. It explained the overall structure and principles of the human body well in paragraphs and charts. If you are interested, please take a look around.â
âItâs interesting. Iâll check it out when I get a chance.â
Their gazes followed Albertâs hand, pointing to the bookshelves lined up right in front of him.
The head librarian quickly headed there as if he was about to fix something to its original position.
âWhat?â
A seemingly unobtrusive book caught their attention.
It was just one of many books, and she wondered why it stood out so much.
Was it because of the title engraved at the back of the book?
âWhatâs wrong, My Lady?â He asked.
Albert, who was trying to lead them to the next floor, stopped walking the moment he saw Cherrylâs reaction.
âNothing. Can you tell me what the next floor is about?â
âOh, yes. Please come up these stairs.â
With Lucy and Albert in front of her, she could not take out the book and read it, so she waited calmly until she was free.
Albert then introduced books classified by floor levels along with easy and interesting explanations that even normal people could understand.
He grinned again after showing off the books on the fifth floor and the glass decorations on the ceiling.
He must have felt good, guiding a guest who had visited the library for the first time in a while.
âThatâs all, My Lady. Now, you can look around as much as you want, and if you need any help, Sam and I will be waiting on the first floor, so please call us anytime.â
âThank you for your precious time, Albert.â
âIâll tell you, Madam. Youâre very nice and polite. The Duke is lucky to marry someone like you.â
Grinning, Albert bowed before heading downstairs.
Cherryl stared blankly at the old manâs back.
âWhich book do you want to read first, My Lady?â Lucy asked.
There was a book she had been paying attention to for a while, but the title was so embarrassing that she couldnât say it out loud.
Cherryl decided to lie.
âI donât have a book that I want to read, but Iâm thinking about going to the third floor. What about you, Lucy?â
âIâm going to read cookbooks on the fifth floor. I want to learn how to bake a cake and make it for you someday.â
âOkay, Iâll see you later.â
Lucy curtsied before walking away with quickened steps.
When other peopleâs attention wasnât on her anymore, Cherryl went down to the third floor without hesitation.
She should check it out while no one is there.
Upon arriving in front of the bookcase where the book was inserted, she began to search by pointing out the books one by one.
Before long she found the book she had noticed.
As she looked at it again, her eyes widened and she swallowed hard as she read the title.
After checking her surroundings if it was empty for the last time, Cherryl carefully took out the book.

At the same time, Cade was walking at the main castleâs observation deck with Hawk, and another aide named Tyrone.
Suddenly, Hawk pointed at somewhere in a nervous voice.âWhat the hell is that messy building?â
The border should be visible from the high observatory, but an ugly wooden frame had stuck out, covering a corner of the barrier.
A small city must have constructed a building near the castle.
Once the building was completed, it would block their view even more.
One of Cadeâs assistants pushed his glasses up to his forehead and looked in the direction Hawk had just pointed.
âThe villa undergoing construction is owned by Joseph Wilson, mayor of a small town at Ilwood.â The aide spoke calmly.
âWas I asking about the buildingâs owner now? Why is that dirty trash blocking the view at the borders?â Hawk growled.
Tyrone flinched but continued. âWe had a good view at the western and eastern watchtowers but not this observatory. In fact, the castleâs observatory wasnât originally a place for surveillance or attackâââ
âTear it down.â Hawke spat out.
âWhat?â
âDonât tell me that you donât want to tear it down. Would it be possible to make a hole in an ugly plate if it means we will have one more watchful eye?â
Tyrone looked at Hawk with a troubled look.
âIlwood is a small city, but there are many tourists there because it is close to a larger city where the winter festival is held. Thanks to this, a considerable amount of taxes are being paid on the estate. So, if the mayor destroys the villa under construction without notice, and they will definitely protest. We must appease the massesâ-â
âJoseph Wilson, Mayor of Ilwood.â Cade, who was listening silently, muttered in a low voice, âHe had the blood of Borough, who used to flatter my stepfather.â
Cade gave his aide a dry stare.
Until now, the aide was confident that his courage had strengthened while living with strange men but whenever he faced those terrifying eyes that didnât show any emotion that resembled a human, his whole body would tremble with goosebumps.
Cadeâs low-pitched tone gave orders.
âRemove that monstrous thing by the end of the day and bring the mayorâs head along with the report.â
