Chapter 8
Cold Showers
SEBASTIAN
Sebastian hadnât given a thought about Jayda and other men, but now that Caleb asked the question, he found out he wasnât comfortable with it. Being the first to make love to her made him happy. The thought of another man having the same passion with Jayda filled him with crazy jealousy.
Sebastian sighed and buried his face in his hands. He should never have taken her to his hotel room. It would take some time for him to actually be able to forget her. Heâd have to force himself to find a way.
âIâm your best friend, Seb, and I want you to be honest with me. Do you feel anything for Jayda?â
âNo,â Sebastian replied firmly. âI donât do that. You know that.â
He couldnât lie to his best friend, though.
âOkay, fine, maybe a little,â he replied to Calebâs accusing eyes.
âI honestly regret what I said to her and the way I acted like a jerk the next morning. But I did what I had to do. Maybe if I can convince her to spend one more night with me, Iâll be able to forget her after that.â
CALEB
Caleb shook his head in disbelief. Sebastian really was a dumbass. What woman would want to be with him after being treated that way?
âYou really messed up, bro.â
âI know.â Sebastian groaned and pounded a fist into his palm. âWhat is it about her?â
âYou tell me,â Caleb said, curious to know.
Sebastian thought. âSheâs beautiful, but itâs more than that. She truly seemed not to know who I was. She didnât have any trouble putting me in my place. She was smart. Independent. And I was the first man sheâd been with, I know that.â
âShe sounds amazing,â his best friend said. âToo bad you screwed up.â
They were interrupted by Sebastianâs secretary, Jessica, who walked in with a white envelope.
âSomeone sent this from the hotel, sir.â She handed him the envelope and then took her leave.
SEBASTIAN
âWhat the hell?â Sebastian exclaimed when he opened the envelope and saw the bundle of cash.
He also found a note and read it out loud.
~âI donât need your money, Mr. Arrogant. You and your money can go to hell. I hope we never cross paths again. People like you donât deserve a place on Earth. Jayda~.â
The words looked like they were scribbled with anger. Sebastian crumpled the note in his fingers as Caleb started laughing.
âYou might have met your match, Seb. Someone who wonât accept any bullshit from you.â
Sebastian crumpled the paper and tossed it into a nearby bin. Jaydaâs words sliced him. He shouldnât care what she said, but for some reason he did.
CALEB
âSo, what next?â Caleb asked with a smile playing on his lips. He saw a look of hurt on Sebastianâs face before it turned to anger. His best friend was used to hiding his emotions and would hardly ever open up to anybody.
âSheâs just a spoiled brat. Iâll deal with her my way,â Sebastian mumbled.
âYou need to calm down, Seb. You can see now that sheâs not after your money. You like her, and I suggest you act on it before itâs too late.â Caleb paused. âAfter the way you treated her, it might already be too late.â
âIâll be over her in a few more days. Iâll make sure I find someone who can pleasure me like her.â Sebastian lied and quickly changed the subject.
SEBASTIAN
âI hope youâre coming to Dadâs party. Itâs in a couple of days,â Sebastian asked Caleb. He was sure he would survive the party if Caleb was around.
âIâve never missed any of your familyâs events, so Iâll surely be there. Besides, I canât wait to see Amelia and Olivia again,â Caleb smiled.
Amelia and Olivia were Sebastianâs younger twin sisters. Even though there was a nine-year age gap between them, he loved his sisters dearly, but there were times they could be a handful.
âI miss them too, but I hope something will come up so Iâll have the perfect excuse not to attend Dadâs birthday dinner.â
âYou canât be serious, Seb. Itâs his birthday.â
âI know, I just hope he doesnât bring up the usual talk about me being old enough to get married. And since itâs his birthday, Iâm sure heâs going to give me more reasons why I should give him grandkids.â
âAnd donât you think itâs time to settle down and have your own children?â Caleb teased.
âSays the guy who isnât married yet.â Sebastian rolled his eyes at Caleb. âBesides, Iâm only thirty-two. I want to enjoy life a whole lot more before settling down. Thatâs if I ever will.â
CALEB
Caleb frowned and shook his head.
Sebastian used to be the most selfless and sweetest human being Caleb had ever known. But his experience with his last girlfriend changed everything about him. He became ruthless, heartless, and cold. Heâd become the number one playboy in the country.
Because of what his ex had done, Sebastian filled his head with the worst thoughts about women. He only mingled with them when he wanted pleasure and then discarded them as if they meant nothing to him.
Deep down, Caleb knew this Jayda would be able to do something to bring his best friend back. Maybe he should reach out to her first.
