Chapter 48

Cold Showers

JAYDA

Jayda looked at her office door and was surprised to see Sebastian, looking devilishly handsome as always.

Jayda welcomed him with a hug and a passionate kiss. No matter how many times she saw him, she was always thrilled.

“I was actually not expecting you, but I’m happy you’re here. I thought we would be meeting at the hospital.”

Sebastian caressed her cheek. “I thought so too but changed my mind. It’s better we go in one car than different cars. That way, I can spend more time with you.”

“You’re becoming so clingy,” Jayda teased.

Sebastian shrugged with a shy smile on his face. “I can’t help it.”

She’d teased him, but she felt exactly the same way.

The drive to the hospital was short, but they chatted the entire way. She was so lucky to have a handsome man she could also talk to about anything. They discussed their jobs and told jokes to each other. Being with him was like being with a best friend.

“Are you excited?” Jayda asked while they waited in the ultrasound room, even though she could see the excitement all over his face.

“Very excited. I hope my heart doesn’t explode with so much happiness.” He grinned.

When Dr. Davis came in, she greeted them both and got Jayda set up for the ultrasound.

Jayda squirmed when Dr. Davis applied some gel on her bump. She’d actually forgotten how cold it was.

Dr. Davis placed the wand on Jayda’s belly and after a while, an object appeared on the monitor. She explained everything they needed to know.

“And this is your little miracle.” She pointed to the monitor.

“Are you both ready to know the gender?” Dr. Davis asked the excited soon-to-be parents.

Jayda nodded.

“Yes, please,” Sebastian added with his fingers intertwined with Jayda’s.

After carefully studying the monitor, Dr. Davis turned to Sebastian and Jayda with a wide grin.

“Congratulations! It’s a girl.”

Happy tears rolled down Jayda’s cheeks. In only a few months she’d hold her baby girl in her arms. The precious little miracle she and Sebastian had created.

She couldn’t wait to tell Aaron that he was right all along; his baby sister would be with him in a few months.

SEBASTIAN

Sebastian was choked up and overwhelmed. He wiped off Jayda’s happy tears with his thumb and whispered in her ear. “We are having a mini-Jayda!” he said proudly.

“I’ve never imagined myself being a mother to a precious baby girl, and now when I envision it, I can’t help but tear up.” She sniffed.

“She will look just like you. She will have your eyes, hair color, your great personality, and your kind heart. She will also be a genius like her mom, and most importantly, she will have me and Aaron wrapped around her fingers.”

Jayda smiled. “She can take everything from me, but I want her to have your and Aaron’s beautiful eyes.”

“I have no problem with that. Thank you for adding colors and meaning to my life. I promise to love you and our children forever. You’re amazing with Aaron, and you’ll do just great with our baby girl,” Sebastian assured her.

“I love you, Sebastian.”

“And I love you more, babe.” He kissed her forehead.

Dr. Davis tried not to cry as she watched their beautiful interaction. She gave them copies of their new ultrasound picture.

“Your baby girl is healthy, and I have no doubt you will enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. I’ll see you at your next appointment, but until then, keep on taking care of yourself. And ~you~ keep taking such good care of her,” the doctor told Sebastian.

“I will,” he promised. “Doctor, will it be okay for us to take our vacation?”

“Yes, if you go now and don’t wait. Soon enough, Jayda won’t be able to travel by plane and will be too uncomfortable. Go and have a good time before your baby comes. Once your little girl is here, you’ll have your hands full,” Dr. Davis told them with a knowing grin.

As soon as they got into the car, Sebastian leaned against the headrest and exhaled. “I can’t believe it! A baby girl.” He smiled at Jayda.

JAYDA

Jayda laughed softly and shook her head. “My pregnancy just seemed real today! I never thought I’d have a girl for a firstborn, but I’m thrilled. She has me, you, Aaron, and our families to protect her and shower her with so much love. She’s blessed.” Jayda caressed her bump.

Sebastian placed his hand on Jayda’s own. “I love you so much.” He said sincerely with adoration in his eyes.

Jayda leaned closer to Seb and kissed him. “We love you too, babe. I can’t wait to tell Lilian!”

Her best friend would be as excited for her as Jayda was herself. She frowned, thinking about Lilian. It had been a few weeks since Jayda had heard from her. She’d been so busy that she almost hadn’t noticed.

“What’s wrong?” Sebastian asked immediately when he saw her frown. He rubbed his hand over her belly. “Is it the baby?”

Jayda shook her head. “No, my love. I just realized I haven’t heard from Lily, and I hope nothing is wrong with her.”

She would have to find out what was going on as soon as she got home from their trip.
