Chapter 32

Cold Showers

SEBASTIAN

“Are you drunk?” Sebastian rose to his feet. All he could see was red. He knew he was a player before he met Jayda, but he would never stoop so low to sleep with his younger sister’s best friend.

“How can you and Katie accuse me of such rubbish?” he shouted. He’d never even found Katie attractive. She was never his type.

“Amelia, are you sure you know what you’re talking about?” Albert intervened.

Amelia replied with a nod.

“Just admit you don’t like the fact that Jayda and I are together instead of cooking up stories,” Sebastian scolded her.

VANESSA

“Please take your seat, Sebastian.” Vanessa persuaded. Her son looked like he was about to beat his sister up for saying such nonsense.

“Amelia, you know your brother is in a serious relationship with Jayda. If this is all a prank, just stop it, because you are going way too far with the story.”

AMELIA

Amelia hung her head, heartbroken to tell them this story.

“I wish it was all a lie, Mom, but it’s true. I know Sebastian and Jayda are in a serious relationship and that’s why I decided I was going to tell y’all the truth whether Katie approved of it or not.

“When my PI gave me all the information, I had no idea who Katie was pregnant with. All I knew was that the baby was a boy, but unfortunately, Katie was not a public figure or a social person so the PI couldn’t find the child’s picture.

“I was mad and heartbroken. I regarded Katie as my best friend, and she could not trust me enough to tell me she was pregnant.”

“Thankfully, my PI was able to get me her address, so I went there to confront her.

“She was not expecting me that morning. But I forcefully made my way into her apartment, and I received the shock of my life. The boy looked so much like you, Sebastian.”

Olivia cried out. “No!”

“I swear, Amelia, I won’t regret what I will do to you if you make that statement again. I never fucked or had an affair with your best friend!” Sebastian said, running his fingers harshly through his hair.

Amelia was tired of looking like a liar in front of her family, so she reached for her phone and decided to show them the little boy’s picture.

She passed her phone to Sebastian.

Sebastian was shocked speechless. For a moment he forgot how to breathe—it was as if he was staring at his younger self. He opened his mouth to say something, but words failed him.

Absentmindedly, he passed the phone back to Amelia, then buried his face in his hands. “I will assume the picture was photoshopped because I never had anything to do with Katie and never will.”

Albert, Vanessa, and Olivia wanted to see the picture too, so Amelia passed her phone to them. Olivia joined her parents where they were seated so she could take a look.

Albert was holding the phone while his wife and other daughter looked at the picture with him.

“Oh my God!” Vanessa’s eyes went wide. The little boy was a replica of Sebastian.

“There are more pictures of me and him on my phone. You can scroll by to see them,” Amelia said.

Albert did just that. There were so many pictures of Amelia and the boy that they couldn’t go through them all.

VANESSA

“What the hell is all of this, Amelia? If this is true, why didn’t you say anything to anyone the moment you found out?” Vanessa said with tears in her eyes. When she thought her son was finally going to have his happily ever after, this had to happen.

“I was as shocked as y’all are when I set my eyes on the little boy, and I demanded Katie give me an explanation. Of course, she knew about Sebastian’s breakup with Susan because we were still very close then.

“Exactly two days after the breakup, Katie accompanied her cousin to a club. It was her cousin’s birthday. She had invited me, but I declined. She said they all got drunk, and she found herself naked next to Sebastian the following morning. Only then did she realize he was the one she slept with. She ran away before Sebastian woke up.”

Amelia held back tears as her voice shook.

“She said she tried to remember if she was the one that approached Sebastian or if Sebastian approached her, but she couldn’t remember.

“She couldn’t face any of us after what happened, so she stayed away. Everything got worse when she found out she was pregnant.

“We had barely finished our second year of college. Her dad was very disappointed in her, so he sent her to her mom in Australia. She thought it would be better to abort the baby, but she could not bring herself to do it. She had Aaron in Australia, and she gave him her surname instead of Miller.

“Due to guilt and shame, she never planned to come in contact with any of us. She knew how much you and Dad cared about her and treated her as if she was a Miller. She knew the two of you would be disappointed in her.

“She moved back here when Aaron was a little over two, and since then she has been doing her best to avoid us all.

“She swore to me she had no idea how she landed in bed with Sebastian. She begged me not to tell you anything, but I told her it was impossible. Then she pleaded for me to give her time to gather the courage to come clean to you guys.

“Since then, I’ve been visiting Aaron from time to time. He’s a sweet kid, and he is very smart.

“I’m sorry I didn’t say anything immediately. Whenever I decided to tell Mom or Dad about it, I would chicken out because it’s all complicated and hard to believe. I know I wasn’t on my best behavior when Mom told Olivia and me about you and Jayda, but I swear to you that I have nothing against Jayda.

“Olivia told me how deeply in love you guys were, and that even made me more conflicted with myself. I couldn’t keep Aaron’s existence a secret anymore, and at the same time, I didn’t want to ruin what you have with Jayda because these past few days with her have been the happiest you’ve ever been.

“I’m really sorry for everything, Sebastian, but this is the truth.”

SEBASTIAN

Sebastian had his face buried in his hands all through Amelia’s explanation. He remembered that night, but not much of it. The only thing he could do to get rid of Susan’s betrayal was to get drunk. He remembered he got wasted that night, only for him to wake up naked and alone. The person he spent the night with was nowhere to be found.

Sebastian knew he was officially ruined. Everything he had worked for and earned was officially over. No doubt Jayda was going to end things with him when she found out he had a son. It wouldn’t matter that he’d never known until now. If only Amelia had opened up months ago!

If he’s known he had a son, he might not have been at that bar, looking for another one-night stand. He might have been more careful about using protection. He might never have met Jayda in the first place.

~Jayda.~

She was never going to forgive him for this.

Vanessa went to Sebastian and made him look at her. “My son... could this be true?”

“I remember that night. I don’t remember much of it because I was drunk. I remember waking up naked, but I was alone. I’ve made a mess of my life,” Sebastian said in a heartbroken voice.

Vanessa had unshed tears in her eyes, and now they trickled free. She’d always had answers for her son, but this time around she was short of words.

Just when Sebastian thought he had had enough, his phone rang. He reached for it in his pocket and saw that it was Lilian.

He sighed and picked up the call.

“Yes, Lilian?” He tried to sound okay even though all he wanted to do was cry and break something to let out his frustration.

“Sebastian, I’m on my way to Lucendris Hospital. I just got a call from them. Jayda had an accident.”
