Chapter 28

Cold Showers

JAYDA

Jayda couldn’t hold back the smile that took over her face when she stared at herself in the mirror. The red dress Sebastian bought for her fit perfectly, and with the little makeup she applied, she looked very beautiful. Like Cinderella waiting for her Prince Charming to arrive.

Jayda was a little bit nervous. She’d never attended any charity event filled with only billionaires in the room. Zach had invited her on so many occasions when they were still dating, but she’d always declined, using work as an excuse.

She looked perfect, she told herself. The outfit Sebastian had sent for her was expensive, and she would fit right in, no matter how much money everyone else had. Taking her new clutch, she decided to wait in the living room.

Before she could take a seat to relax a little, the doorbell rang. She went to answer it and came face-to-face with the most handsome man in the world. Her baby daddy, her very own Sebby. He was in his dark, tailored suit, his face covered with a broad smile, and he was holding a bouquet of red roses.

SEBASTIAN

Sebastian was blown away by the gorgeous angel who stood before him. He had asked Lilian for her clothes and shoe size before picking the outfit for her. Sebastian knew all the men at the event would have a hard time keeping their eyes off her, but he’d be by her side to give them the necessary glare and make them understand that she was only his.

“Hi,” Jayda smiled, bringing Sebastian out of his thoughts.

Sebastian closed the gap between them. He caressed her right cheek.

“You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever laid my eyes on,” he said sincerely as he looked into her eyes.

Jayda blushed. “Thank you. I feel beautiful in this gorgeous dress.”

He kissed her cheek and handed her the roses. He helped her put them in a vase, and soon enough they were good to go.

Once settled in his car, she turned to him.

“You really have such great taste. Thanks for the dress and my jewelry. I love them,” Jayda said.

Sebastian wasn’t used to people thanking him for everything, and this woman right here, the person he was crazy about, the mother of his firstborn and future kids, thanked him for every little thing. Every time she did, she showed him what kind of woman he’d fallen in love with, and he couldn’t be more proud and grateful.

“You’re welcome, babe. I’m glad you like them.” He briefly squeezed her hand.

“I hope our little bean has not been naughty in there.” He took a glance at her before returning his attention to the road.

JAYDA

Jayda could see the love and adoration in his eyes when he spoke about their baby.

“It’s still tiny, so I can’t say much. I guess he or she is well-behaved but has no mercy when it comes to my morning sickness.”

SEBASTIAN

Sebastian smiled sadly. He wished he could be there for her during her morning sickness. He had no problem asking her to move in with him, but he didn’t want to scare her away. He had an idea of how painful morning sickness could be, and how much women had to endure during pregnancy.

He was nine when his mother gave birth to his twin sisters, an age wise enough to understand what was going on. He was determined to be there for Jayda as much as he could.

Sebastian stopped the car in front of the hall where the event was taking place, passed the keys to the valet, and went to the other side to open the door for Jayda.

He saw the look of surprise on Jayda’s face.

JAYDA

She was expecting the press to be all over the place, taking pictures here and there, but the entrance was awfully calm except for guests walking in and out of the hall.

From everything she’d read about him before, she knew photographers followed him all over the place, snapping pictures for their gossip sites. It was a very different life for him than she’d ever experienced.

“The event is a private one,” Sebastian explained.

Jaya nodded in relief. She was not always her best around the media.

With his hand on her lower back, Sebastian ushered her into the hall. It was just as she had pictured. Big, expensive decorations, high chandelier lights, and waiters walking around with food and drinks.

Some of the guests were on their feet in different corners of the hall, trying to mingle while some were seated, chatting away.

“I can feel people’s eyes on me. Is anything wrong with my dress?” Jayda stopped in her tracks and asked Sebastian.

He smiled. “Nothing is wrong with your dress, dear. You look so beautiful that people are finding it difficult to take their eyes off you.”

She sighed in relief. “I got scared. I thought something was wrong with my outfit.”

Sebastian kissed her cheek, and they continued to make their way through the guests.

“Sebastian,” a very familiar voice called.

“Uncle Ariche.” He hugged his father’s friend.

“It’s so good to see you again, son. How are you?” he asked as soon as Sebastian pulled away from the hug.

“I’m fine, uncle. Meet Jayda, the queen of my heart.” He introduced her to him.

“Good evening, sir.” Jayda stretched out her hand for a shake.

Uncle Ariche gracefully shook her hand and placed a polite kiss on it.

“It’s so nice to meet you, dear.” The old man smiled.

“Same here,” Jayda responded.

Sebastian wrapped his arm possessively around Jayda’s waist.

“So does that mean I should be expecting a wedding invitation from you two very soon?” Uncle Ariche asked the romantic duo.

“That’s the goal, uncle,” Sebastian replied while Jayda tried to hide her blush.

Sebastian introduced Jayda to some of his business partners. They ate, drank, and mingled. Sebastian made sure Jayda cleared her plate and stayed hydrated.

Before the event came to an end, Sebastian was called to give a speech. Jayda listened attentively to what he said, and her heart was filled with pride, knowing Sebastian had been a major sponsor of this event to help raise money for the less privileged.

Just as they were about to leave, they came across somebody awfully familiar. Jayda face-palmed mentally. She’d never expected to see him here.

It was her ex, Zach.
