Chapter 25

Cold Showers

SEBASTIAN

As soon as Sebastian got settled in his car, he had an incoming call from Caleb. He answered immediately.

“What’s up, bro?” he said to Caleb.

“Hmm, someone seems extremely happy today.”

He smiled. “You have no idea how happy I am.”

“I’m glad for you, Seb. How did the appointment go?” Caleb asked.

“Very well. Jayda is fine, the baby is also fine and growing well. Jayda and I were able to hear our baby’s heartbeat, and I promise you it was the most amazing sound I’ve ever heard. At that moment I felt blessed and complete. I’m already anticipating our next appointment.

“She agreed to give us a chance which I’m very grateful for. Today isn’t even over yet, and it’s already one of the best days of my life.”

“Congratulations, man. I’m glad that things are falling in place for you. Always make her happy, and please don’t mess things up.”

“I won’t, I promise,” Sebastian assured him.

SEBASTIAN

Sebastian’s happiness did not go unnoticed. He was extra nice to his workers and even gave them an early day off. But he stayed back and worked till 6 p.m., his usual time.

Before leaving the office, he decided to text Jayda.

Sebastian

Mi Amor

Sebastian’s phone beeped immediately, and his smile grew wider when he saw that Jayda had replied to his text.

Jayda

Mi Corazón

Sebastian blushed a little.

Sebastian

I hope you had an amazing day. I know you haven’t had dinner yet. What should I order for you?

Jayda

I did. Thanks but I’m not hungry. I’ll just take a glass of orange juice before I go to bed.

Sebastian

Are you home already? Please, you have to eat something; for our baby’s sake, even if it’s only a little. Remember what the Doctor said.

Jayda

I just got home. I’ll find something to eat. I’m too tired to cook so I’ll call Lily to buy something on her way

Sebastian

It’s fine. Just tell me what you feel like eating and I’ll order it for you and Lilian.

Jayda

I think some Chinese will do.

Sebastian

Okay, it will be delivered to you soon. I’m about to leave for my apartment. I’ll give you a call before I go to bed.

Jayda

Thanks, I’ll be expecting your call.

SEBASTIAN

As soon as Sebastian got settled in his apartment, he got his laptop and facetimed his mom, wanting to give her the good news of how his day went.

Sebastian chuckled as soon as his mother’s face came into view. She had some white scrub on her face. “Mom, you’re still on with your facial routine.”

“Of course! I have to look sexy for my husband.” She admitted with a smile. “How are you? You look really happy tonight.”

“I’m fine, Mom. I accompanied Jayda to her doctor’s appointment today.”

“Are you for real?” Vanessa asked, surprised.

“Yes, Mom. She called me yesterday to ask if I wanted to come along with her.”

Vanessa had smiles all over her face. “Wow, that’s amazing. How did it go? How are she and my grandchild?”

“It went well, Mom. Jayda is fine and your grandchild is healthy and growing.”

Sebastian reached for the ultrasound picture and showed it to his mom, hoping she could see it clearly through his device.

“Wow! Albert come take a look.” She called her husband who was somewhere in the room.

“Wow!” Albert cried.

“He or she is almost two months old. I’m already anticipating the next appointment. Is that weird of me?” Sebastian couldn’t help but ask.

“Of course not,” Vanessa replied with a proud smile on her face.

“I think it’s normal to feel that way. Congratulations, son,” Albert smiled.

“Thanks, Dad,” Sebastian blushed.

“So how did you feel when you heard its heartbeat?” Vanessa asked, even though she had an idea of what her son had felt. She was happy Jayda let him experience that wonderful moment with her.

“Words wouldn’t justify how I felt, Mom. Today was definitely one of the days I’ll never forget. I feel blessed, and I’m so grateful.”

“So does that mean you and Jayda have worked things out?” Vanessa asked hopefully.

“Yes, we have. We’ve agreed to give in to what we feel for each other. I plan to take our relationship slow and earn her trust in the process.”

“I’m so happy for you, son. Everything is finally falling into place for you,” Albert said.

“Please make her happy always. Jayda and your child should be your priority,” Vanessa added.

“Thanks, Dad and, yes, Mom, I promise to make her happy and be there for her always.”

LILIAN

Lilian was so happy for her best friend. Jayda had told her how Sebastian had confessed everything and apologized again and again. She knew her cousin had been a mean jerk for a long time, but this all made sense now.

“I remember my mom telling me to attend a surprise engagement party. She said Sebastian was going to propose to some woman. I told her I wasn’t going to attend because Seb and I never got along.

“On the day of the engagement, Gabriel told me everything was canceled because the woman turned out to be a con artist. I remember him saying Sebastian was heartbroken,” Lilian finished.

“I feel so sorry that he went through that. Don’t you think you should have told me about it?” Jayda asked.

“Honestly, it didn’t cross my mind. I never knew the whole story, so I would never have known it was that incident that made him start acting like that. We’d always fought a lot. I thought he was just a jerk! But that was when we were kids,” she explained.

Jayda nodded in understanding.

“Let’s say I was never interested in knowing anything about Sebastian. But I’m happy you guys are cool. I will visit him to have a one-on-one cousin talk with him. I need to make him understand that he will have me to deal with if he hurts you or my godbaby.”

“Godbaby?” Jayda smiled.

“Yes, I’m your best friend, therefore, I’m your baby’s godmother,” Lilian said proudly.

JAYDA

Jayda chuckled. The thought of who was going to be her baby’s godparents never crossed her mind, but Lilian was definitely going to be the godmother.

“He had my name tattooed on him,” she confessed.

“Really?” Lilian asked in disbelief, her lips curving into a smile.

“Yes, on his wrist.”

“He is deeply into you,” Lilian assured. “I won’t be surprised if he pops the question really soon.”

Jayda blushed. “I don’t think so.”

Lily chuckled. It might not be soon, but it will definitely happen.”

“I agreed to give him a chance, and I hope I don’t screw it up. You know how bad I am when it comes to relationships,” Jayda confessed.

Lilian patted her hand. “You will do just fine. I have a feeling things will work out with you and Sebastian. Just be yourself, love him, and create time for him,” she advised.

Jayda replied with a nod.

“Do you remember the bracelet he sent to me? The one with ~I love Mommy~ engraved on it?”

Lilian nodded.

“I saw the same bracelet on him, but I couldn’t translate what was engraved on it.”

“Perhaps it was your name in another language.” Lilian teased. “Did you ask him?”

“I wanted to, but my phone rang. I know a little bit of Spanish, and it’s not Spanish.”

“Maybe it’s Greek or Italian. Aunt Vanessa is half Greek and half Italian, but she grew up in America. Sebastian is quite fluent in a number of languages.”

Jayda sighed. “My baby comes from a family of great ancestors.”

“Count yourself lucky. Not everyone gets a baby daddy as handsome, rich, and versatile as Sebastian Miller,” Lilian teased.

SEBASTIAN

As soon as Sebastian was done talking to his parents, he dialed Jayda. She picked up after a few rings.

“Hey!” Jayda had been expecting his call.

“You seem excited to hear from me.” He smiled.

JAYDA

“Something like that. How was work?” Jayda asked as she got comfortable on her bed.

“The usual stresses, but I was in a good mood all day and couldn’t stop smiling. I’m sure everyone around me noticed.”

Jayda chuckled. “Same here.”

“I had my secretary get a frame for me. One that would fit our baby’s ultrasound picture. I placed it on my desk and couldn’t stop staring at it,” Sebastian said.

“Thank you for giving me the best gift ever. You have no idea how much today meant to me.”

Jayda smiled. “You are welcome. Thank you for coming along and for being so open with me about everything that happened to you. I wanted to ask what those words meant. The words engraved on the bracelet you wore today.”

“Oh!” Sebastian muttered.

“Yes, what do they mean?”

“They’re powerful words relating to someone very special to me. I promise to explain what they mean the next time we see each other.”

“No problem, but I hope that very special someone is me.”

“Hopefully!” Sebastian chuckled. “So, how is our baby doing?”

“He is fine.”

“He?” Sebastian reiterated.

Jayda smiled. “Or she.”

“Okay, but you want our child to be a boy?” he asked.

“I’m fine with either gender, but I’m hoping it will be a boy. That way, he will be there to protect his younger siblings.”

SEBASTIAN

Sebastian smiled at her reply. She wanted more kids? So did he, and hopefully, she would have them with him.

“What about you? Do you want a girl or a boy?” she asked.

“I haven’t really thought about it, but I’m fine with either gender,” he confessed.

“I FaceTimed my parents this evening and showed them the ultrasound picture. They were very happy.”

Jayda chuckled. “I can’t wait to meet them. Our baby is so lucky to have two sets of grandparents that are going to spoil him or her.”

Sebastian smiled too. “I know, my mom can’t wait to meet you too. I promised her I’d bring you to her place soon so you can meet them.”

“Not a bad idea. I’m ready whenever you want us to go,” she assured him. He heard her yawn.

“Someone’s feeling sleepy. Let me allow you to go to bed. It was nice talking to you, my love.”

Jayda chuckled. “Sorry, I get tired easily nowadays. It was nice talking to you too, and I can’t imagine going for that ultrasound on my own. It was worthwhile having you in there.

“And thanks for dinner,” she added.

“Anything for you and our baby. Have a good night’s rest. Don’t forget to dream about me.”

Jayda made a soft sound. “I’ll try, good night.”

JAYDA

They both disconnected. Jayda smiled to herself and rubbed her belly. She had the most amazing man in love with her. He was going to be the best father to her child.

For one moment, her heart fluttered. She had made so many mistakes in the past, but she was determined she would give him all the time he needed. She wasn’t going to lose him the way she’d lost Zach.
