Chapter 49

48 | Bloom

The Number On The Napkin

The rest of that day was a blur. I don't fully know what else I said nor do I really know the proper order of how the rest of the events played out. It was almost as if I was in a drunken daze, but this time it wasn't the booze I was drunk on, it was Daisy. Man, I was drunk in love. I know a lot of people are thinking, "how could two young people who haven't even known each-other for that long and in-fact just met on that day, be in love?" Well, my answer would have to be, I don't know. I simply just don't know, I mean I couldn't make this shit up if I tried, it just happened. So sorry to those people but thats all you're going to get...

Anyways, after I reluctantly released Daisy, I knew right then and there that I was in love with her. I think deep down I had known before, but that moment, that kiss, sealed it. She would be mine, and I would be equally hers. As crazy as it sounds, as I held her in my arms I somehow finally felt complete. We both just kind of stood there and watched each other, neither of us really knowing what to do, so we stood there in that moment of tranquility for as long as we possibly could.

"Can we just...start over?" I asked quietly.

"Sure," Daisy smiled. "Hi, I'm Daisy." She reached out her hand for me to shake.

"Alec," I responded, gripping her hand.

"Nice to see you Alec," she smirked, shaking my hand.

"So Daisy, are you doing anything later?"

I remember barely getting the words out of my mouth. I was so in awe but I started to feel the people and the bustle of the town around us and it irked me that they were distracting me from her.

"I...um...well I have work." Her eyes widened as she took in a short breath. "I have the orders I have to go pick up."

"Pick up. Shit!"

My sudden outburst made her blink her eyes and take a small, minuscule step back, still not enough to separate us though.

"Sorry, I just–I need to pick up my sister...well, now I presume."

I snatched my phone from my pocket and lo-and-behold, I was right, I should have already started driving over. Me and my time skills...never very good.

"You mean Layla?" Daisy asked, with a smile starting to form on her face.

She had remembered. She will never know how important that was to me.

"Yeah." Was all I said. I didn't really know what else to say, I was so shocked I couldn't seem to come up with any more words.

"Well, I would come with you but I have to work–"

From somewhere behind us we heard a voice. Sweet but strong, like Daisy's.

"Daisy! Go! We'll cover!"

We turned around to find Sandy, standing next to two other people, with a huge, bright smile on her face. I had no clue how long she had been there and how much she had seen but assuming from her smile, she had seen all of it.

"What are you guys doing–" Daisy started to say, shaking her head.

"Oh shush!" She cut her off. "Now go, we'll cover! Go!"

Daisy bit her lip excitedly and turned to me.

Without waiting another second I gripped her hand and started jogging in the direction of my car. Laughter erupted from Daisy behind me, forcing me to laugh too. Along the way I snatched up the bouquet I dropped and handed it to her.

"Daisies!" She exclaimed brightly.

We eventually got to my car and she jumped in the passenger side, almost like she had done it a million times before, and I jumped in the drivers side. I glanced over at her just as she closed her eyes and sniffed the Daisies, deeply and slowly. We got out of town and down the road pretty quickly, which this time, was not due to my reckless driving.

I kept glancing over at her. Sometimes she was busy looking at her flowers or out the window, but most of the time she would catch me, meeting my eyes confidently. Of course she would. Eventually, she piped up.

"Why do you keep looking at me?"

"Honestly?"

"Yes," she responded quickly.

"Because I'm scared I'm going to look over and you're going to be gone and I figure out that this whole day was just a dream and you're not really real. Each time I look over I'm a little bit more reassured."

She didn't respond at first, all she did was reach over and put her hand on top of my, squeezing it slightly. Then she said,

"I'm here Alec. And whether you like it or not, I'm real and I'm staying right here."

Of course she had known exactly what to say. And she always does, even to this day.

Like I had said, the rest of the day was a blur. We picked up Layla, and of course she almost hyperventilated when she met Daisy. The whole event was great, except for the fact that I had to pry them off of each other to get them both back in the car. They were hugging each other so tightly I don't even know if either of them were able to breathe. We talked the whole way to the ice cream shop, that Layla insisted on us going and Daisy whole heartedly backed her up on. They're going to be quite a duo those two, and I don't know if I'm prepared for that.

After talking and eating ice cream for...hours...Layla was starting to get tired. Layla asked Daisy to come back home with us, but I had something else in mind.

"Actually, why don't I take you home Daisy?"

"Oh?" Her eyebrows raised, obviously a little surprised by my question.

"Yeah. I'd like to take this slow, since we are starting over and all."

"Really?" She asked, her smile growing.

"Yeah."

I dropped Daisy off at her house, and got out to walk her to the door. Before I did though I put the car on child lock seeing that Layla was starting to get out too. I wanted that moment to be just me and Daisy, finally. We walked up and she unlocked the door, but her hand hovered on the doorknob.

"When will I see you again?" She asked.

That was the first time I had ever seen her face really dull. Worry stitched her eyebrows together and uneasiness played with her fingers as they fumbled with the keys.

"How's tomorrow? 3?"

Almost immediately her face lit back up.

"Tomorrow at 3, perfect. See you tomorrow Alec."

"See you tomorrow...Daisy, was it?"

"Yes. Daisy."

Once again, in one swift motion, she stood on her tippy toes and planted a soft kiss on my cheek. Without another glance, she spun around and slipped inside her house, leaving me standing on her front step, with my heart in my hand.

Daisy eventually got a new phone, but it didn't really matter much since most of our time was spent together anyways. But the time that wasn't spent together was most likely spent on the phone with each other, takin' it back to the old days. She was still a firecracker at times, and I was still stupid, but we always seemed to balance ourselves out and come back to where we were supposed to be...together. I have no doubt in my mind that Daisy is the girl that I will end up spending the rest of my life with, but I don't really think about those kind of things very often, I'm too busy living in the present with my girl. Since it is indeed a gift...the present...get it? Not that funny huh? Yeah, she didn't laugh either...but that's ok. I'll get her with the next one.
