Chapter 41 - Mei’s Past

"Soo.. I have to multiply this?" A young boy said

"Yep! Your doing really good so far! If you need any help, just ask!"

Mei sat down next to the young boy and pulled out a book that was in Russian

Mei was helping a younger kid with their homework

She helped out everyone everyday, with various different thingsn/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

She was fluent in several different languages, math, reading, and basically all school subjects

Begin an orphan, she had a lot of free time

She liked to read several books in various languages to pass time sometimes

She was also very athletically fit

She was basically, in short, a super genius

Not to mention, she was also basically an angel, helping out anyone who needed help

It was surprising that no one had adopted her yet, based on how perfect she was.

Several of the caretakers even wanted to adopt her at one point, but they decided against it

But today, there was a visitor checking out the orphanage that would very soon change her life

"Who would you say is the smartest child in this orphanage. Who is the most gifted? If you have any outstanding geniuses at all? I would like to observe each one of them." A female voice said

"Oh, sure. Wait a second. I’ll go gather all of their files. There are several kids who meet what you said." The female caretaker politely smiled and went off to gather the files

’I hope there’s someone in this orphanage that’ll be perfect for me.. but I highly doubt it’ the female thought

The caretaker returned with several files

She grabbed the top file and starting reading it out

"Sam Wilson. Age 13. He almost aced every single one of his classes, except for math. Math really isn’t his strong suit, but he’s a wonderful child!" As soon as the worker said that, she saw the women’s displeasure in her eyes

"Could you show me the students who are very good at math, reading, and all the basic skills like that." The woman said as she thought to herself, ’there’s no way someone who isn’t good at math would be a good disciple..’

"Oh, uh.. sure!" The worker said as she skimmed through all the files she brought with her

"You’ll like this one!" The female worker said as she set the file on the table "her name is Cherry Fern. She’s the top of her class! She’s also a very kindhearted person! She loves drawing and coloring. Sometimes, she’s in her own little wonderland. She’s very easy to take care of and raise!" The female worker thought that the woman in front of her would really like Cherry, so she was excited, but when she looked up at the women again, she once again saw displeasure in her eyes.

’She sounds to softhearted.. I need someone who can focus..’ the female thought but didn’t voice it out loud

Sensing that no one the lady really wanted was in the files, the caretaker said "here, I’ll bring you around the classrooms. I’m sure you’ll find someone you like there!" The caretaker once again gained the sparkle in her eyes

"Okay." The female replied as she started to follow the caretaker

They checked out a couple of classrooms, but the lady didn’t find anyone she really wanted

"Here, this is one of the last gifted classrooms. There must be someone who will catch your eye!" Somehow, The female worker still had all of her energy, though it probably isn’t all that surprising, as the worker dealt with many children everyday from her job as a caretaker.

When they walked in, the female looked around the classroom and observed every one of the kids

No one really caught her eye at first, but when she looked at the corner of the room, her uninterested glance suddenly turned interested

"Who’s that girl over there, in the corner?" The female said

Hearing this, the worker enthusiastically looked over at the corner. Someone finally caught this women’s interest!

When the female worker saw who she was talking about, she gasped and exclaimed

"How in the world did I forget about her?! She’s Mei Koi, easily one of the top 3 smartest kids in the entire orphanage! She’s mastered every single skill we have at the orphanage! Right now she’s helping out a student with math homework! She helps out everyone all the time with any subject they need help with! Even the oldest kids ask for her help sometimes..!"

The female’s eyes sparkled for a quick second before her gaze turned back to normal

"Can I go over there real quick to talk to her for a minute?" The female said

"Of course! Go right ahead!" The female worker was happy

’Mei might finally get a real family!’ Though, at the thought of this, the worker was slightly sad ’if she does really get adopted, I’ll miss her a bunch.. but that doesn’t matter! As long as she’s happy!’ This worker was also one of the people who considered adopting Mei

Mei looked up from her book when she heard someone approaching her

"So I hear your good at your studies?" The woman said

Mei nodded politely and said "Yes, and they are all quite fun!"

"Oh, good." The female worker said as she looked down at the book the young girl Mei was reading

She was just curious at first, but when she saw want the book was in her hand, she was surprised as she said

"You can read russian?" A hint of approval flashed in the woman’s eyes.

"Mhm" Mei nodded but then added "I also know all the main languages of the world with a couple more not as well known languages..." Mei replied politely

"Oh really?" The woman was intrigued

"Yes, ma’am."

Mei once again replied politely

The woman was glad that this girl was also polite. It would be an added bonus

The woman motioned the worker over and said "I would like to adopt Mei."

When Mei heard this, she gasped

"What?" Mei was not sure if she heard the woman correctly

The woman glanced at Mei and said "I would like to adopt you. Is there is problem?"

Mei couldn’t believe what she heard. Someone WANTED to adopt HER!

But Mei sighed as she thought of Marcus and Ali

"Uhm.. actually.. if you are going to adopt me.. can you also adopt a girl called Ali and a boy called Marcus? They are really smart and well behaved.." Mei’s voice trailed of as she finished her sentence

Mei knew it was unreasonable to ask, but it’s not like she could easily forget about her best friends

"hmm.. I will oblige to your request and adopt the girl, Ali.. I will not, however, adopt the boy." The woman had thought for a second and decided it would be better to have two possible disciples instead of one

"Oh.. okay.." Mei was of course, excited that Ali would also get adopted, but she still wished Marcus would also be adopted with them..

The caretaker walked over at this point, so the woman turned towards her and said "I would like to adopt Mei, and her friend Ali."

"O-oh. Okay. Here are the required forms. Please fill them out."

After the signing was all done, Ali was quickly informed of her adoption and was ushered to meet the woman

When Ali walked up to the woman and Mei, she could feel the woman’s stares on her, which made her a little nervous

The woman sighed, nodded, and then said "here, you two follow me. I will take you to your new home."

Then, without any time to say goodbyes, the woman’s was already walking out the doors

Mei and Ali quickly ran to catch up with this woman, glancing back at the orphanage.

They didn’t even get the chance to say goodbye to Marcus.
