Chapter-23
Wanted By His Diana
Chapter-23
-Boon and Saviour
Note: I know many of you think that the ending of the last chapter is a cliché or something that's taken out from a movie. I understand and thank you for sharing your opinion. But, the reason, I have put that scene is because Martin is in no place to accept the fact that he is good for her and that can only happen when he sees or experiences it. For him to understand that he is good for her, for that seed to be implanted in him, he has to experience it for himself. There is no better way for it than this. Sometimes we all need a little push to see the truth, to see that we are good and to follow our heart.
Diana Thomas's POV
Beep... Beep... Beep...
"I am still angry at you." Who is that? Mom? "You cannot waltz back into her life whenever you want." She is angry. "Do you know what she been through because of you?" Who is she talking to? "I thought of you as my son. I thought you would protect her! But you left!" Son? Protect me?
"Things are not the same without her. Nothing is." It's a familiar voice! Martin? "What can I do to make it right?"
"Be there. Stay... for her." Is that Micheal?
I feel someone holding my hand.
"Wake up, Baby." I feel my hand getting wet. Martin! It's Martin! He is here! Is he crying? "I will not leave you. Never again. I wouldn't. I was stupid. I was so stupid! You should have slapped me and tie me to you." I feel him kiss my hand. "I will do anything you tell me from now on. Just wake up and look at me, please..."
I am trying to Martin! I am trying to wake up! I am so angry at you!
"Shall I tell you a story?"
Yes, please.
"I went to this bar in LA once. I wanted to stop myself from running back here. So, I decided to drink myself till I pass out and I did." He laughs. Oh, how I want to see him. "I did drink an awful lot and I nearly kissed a guy in the bar thinking it was you. Now, don't laugh at me." Martin! "He has a long hair. Can you blame me?" I feel him run his fingers on my cheek still holding my hand. "I missed you."
I missed you too.
"Well, they threw me out of the bar that day." He laughs again.
Beep... Beep... Beep...
I feel hot. Not too hot, but the comforting kind. I feel like I am wrapped by something or someone. I feel a hand over my stomach and a body beside me. I feel my face pressed into someone's chest.
My eyes flicker open and the light is blinding. I close them and open them again. I see someone's legs beside mine. My eyes travel up to the person beside me. I have to look up to see who it is, since I am practically sleeping on him. My eyes widen at the person in front of me. I gasp.
He is here! Martin! He is here! I was not dreaming all of that then? He came back to me.
To not seem him leave, but find him here beside me like this... All of this feels so surreal. I reach my hand up to his face to touch him. I have to know if he is really here or it's just my imagination.
He looks so different. His face became thin... or shrunk... I don't know. He has beard growing out. When is the last time he shaved?! There are dark circles under his eyes just like me. His hair is unruly. He is in a t-shirt and jeans. My hand touches his cheek. This is real. He really is here.
He opens his eyes slowly and looks down at my hand. His eyes shoot to me.
"Diana. Oh, fuck!" he hugs me to him. "Fuck! I missed you." He kisses the crown of my head. Suddenly he pulls away. "Do you know who I am?" He asks. I look at him understanding why he is asking me that. Last time I woke up from an accident, he was not a part of my memory. "Doesn't matter. I will not leave no matter what this time."
I want to say I don't know who he is just to get back at him for leaving me. But, I can't. The rational part of me stops me from doing so. Tears blur my vision. My head is starting to hurt.
"I am happy that you are awake."
"Martin." I say his name. I want to hear him say Yes, Cara Mia like he does when I call him that.
"You remember me?" He asks looking at me. I just stare at him. I am so angry, yet so happy that he is here. "Yes, Cara Mia?" He asks waiting for me to speak.
"Was it easy?" I ask. I wanted to ask him that since the day he walked out.
"What?" He looks at me not understanding what I am asking.
"Was it easy to walk out on me like that?" My voice nearly breaks at the end.
He just stared at me for a moment. "Diana."
"Tell me."
"It was not easy." He looks down at my hand. Reaches for it, but I pull away. He looks at me with hurt clear in his eyes. "That's why I left like a coward."
I look away. I can't look at him anymore. Tears start falling down. There I go again. I feel so angry. "I am angry at you." My voice is barely a whisper. I see him switching the button beside my bed to call the nurse in.
"I know and I deserve it. You can get angry and you can even hit me if you want."
"I want to." I hit his chest. He takes it without complaint. A nurse walks in just at that moment.
"I love you." Just hearing him say that makes me even madder.
"No, you don't!" I hit him again. A doctor walks in along with the nurse.
"Ms. Thomas." He walks up to. I sit up straight. My body hurts. Martin helps me sit up, but he doesn't get up from the bed, which I am glad for. I am angry at him, but I want to feel him close to me. I still can't believe he came back. "How are you feeling?"
"Bad." Martin still has his arm around me. I don't shrug it off. His body is still close to, like he is just waiting for me to lean in. That brings me comfort.
"You know you are lucky that you didn't get hit on your head. Considering your have already been involved in an accident in the past where you suffered a major blow to it. You lost a lot of blood this time. But you are again lucky to have Mr. Vincento here." He looks at Martin for a second before looking back at me. "We did everything we could, but it was him who brought you back."
"What?" Martin holds my hand.
"No matter what we do, your body wouldn't respond. But after he came, you did. Sometimes all it takes is be near the person you love. He also donated his blood for you like the last time you got into accident."
I don't say anything, but soak in all the information.
"You should really stop running in front of cars." The doctor says flipping through the pages of my file.
"I don't. They just find me." My dry humor only seems to amuse the doctor, because he is the only one who chuckles.
"Well, year is this?" The doctor asks.
"2020."
"Do you recognise the person beside you?" He asks. I look at Martin and then back at him.
"Yes. My ex-boyfriend, Martin." I hear Martin take a deep breath in from beside me. Cold? I know! You are the one who left!
"And your saviour!" The Doctor says. He is, but he just wouldn't believe me! "Okay. You have been in coma for three days." The Doctor informs. My jaw nearly hits the floor. Was it that bad? "But the good news is, you don't have any major injuries, no fractures. You did need a few stitches on your right thigh." Is that why it hurts that much? How did I need stitches there? What shit did I run in front of? "I have written a prescription for you. You just have to follow it and you will be good in a few weeks."
"Few weeks?" I stare at him in shock. He just said it's nothing major!
"Yes. You will have to stay here in observation for a week. Ms. Thomas your body has suffered a huge blow. You need to give it rest. This is the second accident you have been in two years." I feel like he is scolding me. "You should be more careful. Excuse me." He says and walks out of the door completing his job on checking up on me. The nurse gives me some medicines and I thank her. I see the nurse checking out Martin who is waiting for me to look at him to talk.
Don't look at him! I want to say to her. Urgh! Diana! She leaves after giving me medicines.
"Do you want to sleep?" He asks from beside me.
"Where are Mom and Micheal?"
"They were here till now. Your Mom wasn't eating anything, so I told Micheal to take her to the canteen. They will be back soon."
We just sit in silence for a few minutes. "I hate you." I say suddenly.
"I know."
"No, you don't! You have hurt me Martin!" Tears are gathering again. "You don't understand that you are not a threat to me. Being with you doesn't bring me any harm. It's being without you that does." I take a pause. "You have saved me on many occasions. Every time that I ran into danger, you were there to save me. Every. Single. Time. The only difference you through you were the cause, but you didn't know you were the answer."
"Diana." He whispers my name. His hand is on my face and the other is around my waist.
"You remember you gave me your blood the first time I got into accident?" he nods his head not knowing where I am going with this. "If you are a curse, I have your blood running in my veins you, then I am curse too. I would bring danger to anyone that's around me too."
"No." He shakes his head. I take his face in my hands. He looks at me.
"You need to get this delusion out of your mind. You are not a curse, Martin. You are my boon. You are my saviour and you need to understand that you fucking idiot!" I nearly yell at the end. Tears gather in his eyes.
He leans down and kisses me. Before I can respond he pulls away. "I love you. I love you. I love you so much." He kisses me again. "I missed you." He says pulling away, but still kissing me.
"I didn't miss you much." I pull away in between to talk. I try to kiss him back, but he pulls away again chuckling. He gets up from the bed and sits in front of me. He carefully lap on my lap, making sure not to reach my right thigh since I have stitches there. His hands wrap around my waist. I run my fingers through his hair. He loves laying in my lap and I missed this. He kisses my thigh covered in hospital gown.
"Diana." He says relaxing in my lap.
His shirt rides up and I see a tattoo on his waist. I t was not there before. "Martin." He humms in response. "Lift your shirt." I demand. He looks up at me from my lap.
"Baby, as much as I want to. I don't think we should do it now. You have stitches on your thigh." He has this concern and naughty look in his eyes.
"No! Stop it!" I blush. "That's not what I mean." I slap his bicep lightly. "What that's on your waist?" he looks down at his waist where I am looking.
"Oh, it's nothing."
"You are hiding something from me?"
"No."
"Yeah and I believe you." I say with sarcasm clear in my voice. He sits up.
"Diana, Cara Mia." He takes both of my hands into his. "Are we back together?" He asks suddenly. I know he is giving me the choice and he knows I will say yes. That's slick! I look at him, really look at him. Even with bread and dark circles, he still looks hot. How?!
"No." There. I said it. "I... You have hurt me Martin. You have really..." My voice breaks.
"I understand." His voice is low. He lays back in my lap. "I will win you back Cara Mia, I will." He caresses my knee with his thumb. "You don't know how much I love you." He takes my hand that's running through his hair and kisses my palm. "I will win you back."
I know you will.
