"Maybe it's not as clear-cut as that. Maybe it's the very presence of one thing â light or darkness â that necessitates the existence of the other.
Think about it, people couldn't become legendary heroes if they hadn't first done something to combat darkness. Doctors could do no good if there weren't diseases for them to treat."

DARYA P.O.V
I have never felt so horrible like I did at the moment, watching Ekon's lifeless body. Knowing that I was the cause of it made me lower my lash in guilt.
"How could I do that?" I whispered against Quillon's chest as he ran his hands through my hair. "How could I?" I repeated unable to believe myself. What had come over me at that moment?
"It was the right thing to do" Quillon said and I shot him a shaken look of reproach. Right thing? Killing Ekon? He was a good guy!
Before I could disagree, I heard Konrad growling. Pulling away from Quillon, I stared at Konrad in apprehension.
Slowly, he placed Ekon's hand on the ground and then growling, he stood up with his back to us.
"You killed my friend" Konrad hissed and I flinched visibly, while I felt Quillon's grip on my arm tighten aggressively. "Now, I will show you how that feels."
Gulping, I lowered my lashes and when I raised them Konrad was gone from my sight.
"Oh! God! What did I do?" I said lowering my head and covering my face with my shaking hands.
I am not a cruel person, yet I did this! How am I going to face Meryl?
"Darya... no!" Quillon said and tugging my wrist, he forced me to drop my hands from my face. "I understand you are upset but you did no wrong" Quillon added and I simply stared at him, wondering how could he say that?
"Ekon made his choice Darya. He was the sacrifice!"
I didn't expect that word to be associated with Ekon and so, I hitched my brows in bewilderment.
"His sacrifice helped me see things clearly" Quillon added and held my hands in his own. That's when I felt it... the grief. The change of emotion in Konrad! I had sensed it earlier, but I thought it was my own... never in the world thought that Konrad would grieve for Ekon!
I always thought of him as emotionless and he...
"That's what!" Quillon said and I looked at him in surprise.
"He was made to be bad" I stated what I understood for the first time ever. Konrad isn't bad. His creators were and their blood is running on his veins. That's what makes him the way he is.... So evil. This evil can spread and I am going to stop it before it pollutes the air around me.
I think, it was at that crucial moment, which actually changed my mind set. I came to finally accept that I am not going to kill Konrad, but I am going to stop him.
Quillon nodded and I took a deep breath as he wiped my tears.
"Your friend Vincent has been rescued" Quillon said after sometime and my eyes widened before I closed my eyes and let out a sigh!
"He found out something" Quillon added and I waited for him to continue, "I have a plan" Quillon said and in two minutes, he explained to me what I had to do and how I had to do it.
"You understood?" Quillon asked softly and I nodded. "Let's go" he said and then extended a hand for me to hold.
I took it and stood up. But then lowered myself and placed a kiss on Ekon's forehead. "I am sorry" I whispered even though I knew the words wouldn't ever bring him back.
I then surrounded his body by fresh flowers and then placed a white rose in his hand. As I closed my eyes, a drop of tear fell on the rose.
"He is going to get a proper funeral" Quillon stated from beside me and I gulped.
"He deserves nothing less."
__
I ran after Konrad, knowing exactly what to do this time around. This time, I cannot let anger or madness rule me.
He had entered Supreme Pack and he and his clones had already torn almost twenty people apart by the time I saw him.
Standing straight, I growled murderously and watched as Konrad tore a fully grown man into half before snarling murderously at me. The sight scared me, yet I managed to stay composed.
I could already feel Quillon behind me and he was snarling repeatedly at the clones.
They made the first move... the two clones started rushing towards us, their footsteps loud thuds on the ground.
My wolf arched her back, ready to attack but my eyes widened when just a few steps away from me, one of the clone turned itself invisible. The other one went to attack Quillon, while I just looked blankly until I felt sharp claws on my skin.
I twirled but the clone still managed to create a large gash.
I could feel it around me, but I couldn't understand where exactly it was!
Quillon on the other hand was really getting a good upper hand because he was repeatedly bashing the clone.
Gasping, I lowered myself to the ground and clutched my thigh when I got scraped there by the invisible clone. Gritting my teeth, I stared at the ground and that's when I felt it... the clone was pacing around me, testing me.
I clenched my fists and let my own claws pierce my skin. That action brought tears to my eyes and I let the first drop touch the ground. The clone picked me up and threw me, but I didn't open my eyes. Instead, as I lay on the ground, I let another tear drop roll from the corner of my eye and touch the ground.
As more and more drops touched the ground, it rained and that is when I got to my feet and looked up. The clone probably thought it was invisible but I could clearly make out it's gigantic figure through the thick sheets of rain. As it ran towards me, I could also see the creature's footsteps on the muddy ground.
Though I was prepared for it, I pretended to be unaware and then, stood staring sightlessly until the last moment. That is when the clone tried to attack me, I held it's hand and then raised my leg high to kick it in the face.
Knowing that it was caught, the creature turned visible again. But my wolf and I was fuming and so, I repeatedly hit it on the face, on the chest and on the legs.
The evening sky was covered by thick and dull grey clouds, which illuminated occasionally by the sharp lightning bolt, accompanied by the ferocious thunder.
As the fight went continued, I was clearly winning and so was Quillon. The creature he was fighting against, looked almost dead.
Konrad realized it two and on his one command, both the clones sprinted towards him.
"You can take them down when they are alone, but can you take them down when they are with me?" He asked grinning sadistically and I watched as Konrad spread his hands and pulled his clones towards him.
My lips parted and I took in as much oxygen as possible to my lungs when I saw Konrad and his clones, joining to form a single creature. The new monster was almost ten feet in height and it had three heads, two hands and two human legs. The three wolf heads were growling murderously as their fangs were dripping blood.
The new monster bore resemblance to the creature I had read about... Cerberus. The multi-headed hound.
Now, I found out what Isadora was planning to recreate!
"Can you now find out, which one is the real me?" Konrad asked and then my eyes rounded when the heads moved around in a quick, confusing way. I couldn't tell which among the three the real Konrad was anymore.
'Quillon?' I called his name in a whisper.
'The real one is the only one who can talk' Quillon filled in and knowing that bit was a huge relief.
"Doesn't matter. Today, all of you are going to hell" Quillon bellowed and then lunged at the monster!
Quillon jumped high and then twirling, he kicked the creature in the chest and then punched one of the heads. But the creature was too big because it caught Quillon and before it could dig it's claws on his chest, I used my gift of air and pushed it backwards.
Quillon dropped to the ground, but stood up just as quickly.
As I stood beside Quillon, I watched the three-headed monster running towards us. It's footsteps echoing around the area.
"Together?" I told Quillon, already using my gift to bend vines.
"Together" he said and then we attacked the creature at the same time. As he leaped and bashed two heads with his elbow, I entwined the vines around his foot, making him hit the ground.
"We must separate them" Quillon commented as I watched Konrad tearing apart the vines in his foot.
"How?"
"Electrocute them, while I make the clone lose its senses"
"You know which one is the clone?" I asked in surprise.
"No" Quillon replied honestly. I didn't have time to ask further questions because Konrad stood up once again.
I looked at Quillon and as he nodded, I straightened and got ready to attack the monster. I felt the heat enveloping around my heart spreading all over my body and as I ran ahead, I could hear the electric sparks on my finger tips.
As Konrad lunged at me, I trust my hand in front of me and aimed the current at him. He was right above me, when the sharp current hit him in the chest. I flipped backwards before he could fall atop me and that's when Quillon used his gift.
The body of three individuals was combined as one, but their heads weren't.
Quillon got lucky because he randomly picked the one on the left and I watched as that clone howled noisily when it lost its ability to feel, hear and touch. The other two growled savagely and snapped their jaws at Quillon, while standing up.
"Darya again" Quillon shouted and as I used my gifts, I watched Quillon catch hold the head of one wolf and then literally pull him out of the combination.
It was a clone and Quillon was successful in finding it.
Roaring in rage, the other one fell out too and I watched one rushing towards Quillon.
"Now" Quillon shouted and I realized, now was the time for me to act on his plan.
"Are you planning to kill me Darya?" the creature in front of me asked mockingly and I realized, he was the real Konrad because Quillon had said only he had the ability to talk.
"I am planning to stop you" I breathed out and thrusting the wind in his direction, I had him cornered to a tall tree nearby.
A sky-splitting lightning flashed and catching it in my hand, I flung it at Konrad.
As it pierced him in the chest, the sky roared with a powerful thunder.
I watched Konrad and the tree turning charcoal grey, before crumbling to the ground as nothing but ashes on the green grass.
I took in a deep breath but before I could let it out, I heard Konrad's annoying voice again.
"So, that was your plan to kill me?"
My head whirled so fast, that I am surprised I didn't break a bone in my neck. Through incredulous eyes, I stared at Konrad, who smirked smugly at me.
He was alive?
I killed a clone then?
But clones couldn't...
"Oh! That little trick did work well" Konrad grinned and I gulped. "The clone is like my shadow and they do exactly what I do or tell them to do. Of course the clone cannot speak on their own, but they will tell what I want them to tell" he finished victoriously and I paled.
Quillon's plan of turning Konrad into an ash could have worked, had I paid a little more attention.
'No time to dwell on that' Quillon said through the link and I stared at him through stricken eyes. 'One clone is dead and it's good. Now, the other one will die too' Quillon proclaimed and I watched him do his thing with the clone, he was fighting with.
He messed up the internal organs of that creature and I flinched and took a step back when I heard a bone breaking. Very soon, more and more cracks were audible and I watched as the clone dropped on the ground in a lifeless heap.
Konrad too saw it and he kept growling murderously, but didn't stop Quillon. Maybe because he knew, I would fight him and distract him until Quillon finishes the clone.
The clones were dead... that was another step forward towards victory.
"Your minions are gone" Quillon taunted to which Konrad snarled in rage. "Now, it's your turn" Quillon added purposely.
"You cannot kill me" Konrad said smugly.
"I am not going to kill you Konrad. I am going to stop you" I swore fiercely.
"Stop me?" Konrad threw his head back and laughed. "You cannot stop me. There is no one in this world who can stop me" he boasted and I glared at him. "I am going to destroy everything and you can do nothing but watch helplessly."
"You can do nothing" Quillon interrupted before I could say anything. "Nothing" Quillon said through gritted teeth.
"Can't I?" Konrad demanded, his eyes narrowing dangerously.
"Your clones are dead" Quillon said cruelly and I watched Konrad clench and unclench his fists. "Sanity, Maxwell... all are dead. You have no one. You are alone again... an orphan" Quillon finished and bellowing in rage, Konrad rushed to attack Quillon.
I was about to hit him with the lightning again, but since he was holding Quillon, I didn't. I couldn't risk that!
I watched Konrad pinning Quillon to the ground and repeatedly slashing him with the claws. Screaming in rage, I strode ahead, but stopped when I heard a voice calling me from behind.
"No, Darya"
I tuned my head to glare at Cortez, who had stopped me.
"Do it, the right way" he added and then Quinn, who was beside him, threw the sword at me.
So, Quillon had been purposely taunting Konrad to drive his attention away from them! Now, I understood. If Konrad's strength is wrath, then his weakness is also wrath!
I didn't catch the sword. In fact, I let it fall beside my feet and simply stared at it.
Long back, I had sworn I would kill Konrad with this very sword and today, I am going to kill him in this sword itself.
Quillon's first plan might have failed, but the second one... I wouldn't ever let it fail.
"KONRAD!" I shouted his name in rage.
He stopped attacking Quillon and turned to face me.
"Lots of blood has been shed because of you, but no more" I swore and Konrad, who was in his beastly form, stood up. "Today, it is going to stop" I swore and then flames rose on my hand and I let it spread on the ground, so that it could circle Konrad and Quillon.
Konrad grinned and then laughed maniacally, while Quillon got ready to make his move.
"With fire?" Konrad asked and I simply stared at him.
"Not just with fire.... With everything" I vowed and then used my gift of earth. I let my fingers dance and watched as a plant with long, black leaves kept spreading until it circled the area.
Konrad stopped laughing and narrowed his eyes suspiciously.
"Today, you are going to stop" I declared and picking up the sword, I ran towards him with a firm determination to put an end to this misery.
"You cannot stop me Darya" Konrad stated smugly and I knew they were going to be his last words.
Screaming in rage, I leapt high in the air and stabbed him in the chest with the same sword, just like I did the last time.
The difference between the last time and this was that, this time... the first drop of his blood, didn't touch the ground.
Instead, Quillon stood behind Konrad, holding the black Clocasia leaf in his hand. The first drop of Konrad's blood fell from the tip of that sword and right into the leaf and stood like a dew drop in early winter morning.
Konrad's eyes almost popped out and his mouth parted wide as he stared at me, unable to form a word.
"I stopped you" I said and then pulled the sword out of his chest.
He struggled to breathe and this time he was dying, for real. Stumbling, he tried to stand straight, but failed and then his body fell on the fire that I had prepared for him.
We all stood and watched it burn mercilessly.
Wolves found the courage to come out and together, all of us watched our greatest enemy die. Nobody made a move to help him because everyone knew better than that!
I never took my eyes off the fire, even when my vision got blurred. In fact, I watched until the fire died down and there was nothing but his ashes left.
Closing my eyes, I recalled what Quillon had told me earlier.
He had asked me to first turn Konrad into ash and I think, he too knew it wouldn't work because like Kasey had said, Konrad cannot be killed.
Instead, Quillon had suggested another idea, which suggested that we collect that first drop of his blood!
Vincent had already seen in the future a black Colocasia leaf. The length and especially the sagittate shape of the leaf, with a little shallow pit in the middle, can hold a drop of liquid in it for a long time.
It is a largest black leaf and that is what was more important because the color black, represented death, darkness. He was entrapped in that darkness.
I saw Quillon carefully folding the leaf and making a pouch out of it.
"You cannot let that blood spill" I heard Vincent saying and I smiled through tear stained eyes, when I saw him.
Walking closer, I hugged him and he gave me a sad smile. "I am so glad you are fine" I whispered as he nodded.
"About this..." Quillon interrupted and I pulled away from Vincent to stare at him.
"It cannot be spilled. If the blood spills, the leaf will turn green again, symbolizing his life" Vincent said and I gulped.
"What do we do then?" Quinn asked in confusion.
"Hide it somewhere" Vincent said and I furrowed my brows, until it occurred to me that I could do it.
"I will do it" I volunteered.
"No" Vincent was quick to reply and I frowned at him. "Not you. You can be tempted" he said and I shot him a puzzled look. "The leaf must be hidden in such a place that no one will ever know. Nobody should get tempted to even spill it and trust me, you can get tempted. Konrad's gift is hypnotizing and when anyone gets close to that leaf, they get attracted to it and feel like he is calling them, asking for his blood to be spilled again. The leaf will turn green if his blood is spilled to the ground. You cannot take it Darya, because you can be hypnotized by Konrad" Vincent finished and then looked at Quillon.
In fact, all our heads turned to look at Quillon.
"You are the only one immune to his powers. You are the only one who can keep secrets within yourself. You should be the one to hide it Sanders" Vincent told Quillon.
"You have seen the future, so you obviously know where I might keep it, if I take it" Quillon said as a matter of factly.
"Actually, I cannot" Vincent replied sincerely and I looked at him in surprise. "I cannot see where you are going to take it" he said, his brows furrowing in apparent bewilderment.
"He is right. You take it and hide it, where no one else will get it" Cortez supplied and I watched Quillon quietly staring at the leaf pouch for a few seconds.
"Do it!" I told Quillon and he raised his lashes to look at me. "We trust you. You are the only one who can do it without getting tempted by it" I added.
Quillon sighed and then nodded, which made me smile.
He looked down and placed a kiss on my forehead. "Go" I told him and nodding, he turned away.
I didn't watch him to see which direction he was going.
Nobody watched him!

QUILLON P.O.V
As I ran in no particular direction, without any destination, several thoughts were going on inside my head. Like what would happen if this blood spilled again. What can we do then?
I remember watching Konrad's burning body with anguish in my eyes. The anguish was because even when his body was getting burnt, I could feel the wrath inside them. Now, as I hold his blood, I can still feel it.
It's that powerful and it's that dangerous!
Konrad is no ordinary wolf and I had accepted that a long back, but I have just learnt to accept that he cannot be even killed. There is no death for him.
When Konrad rises again, the only thing one can do is endure until you learn to stop because there is no end to him.
Holding the pouch in my hand, I raced through inhumane speed in the thick woods wherever my feet was carrying me.
I was entrusted this task on behalf of all wolves and as their Alpha, it was my duty to keep them safe. My wolf growled in agreement and then urged me to continue.
When I heard the gushing sound of the water, I stopped running and realized where I had come.
A sense of déjà -vu occurred to me. I had been here before, like this. I had made a life changing decision once... long time ago in my previous life and now, I am once again making a life changing decision.
This was life changing because doing it the right way can save lots of life and if I am careless about it, then I am putting every single life out there in danger!
Long ago, after I left my pack, I had come here to obtain solitude and now, I was back again. I strode the rest of the way with a determined look in my face.
There was no living soul present near the swift waterfalls. The bad weather had kept everyone away and I was grateful for it! I needed that privacy to think and act.
I sat on a huge rock and stared at the water fall for a few minutes in absolute silence. The only sound was that of the water energetically falling from such a height and gushing into the pool.
"You were there and you are here" I began talking, knowing she could hear me. "You are everywhere. You know why I am here. Guide me now, just like you once did, Gaia."
I took her name. I took the nature Goddess's name just so she could show herself to me.
And like I expected, she did.
I felt the ground shake and I stumbled until I saw a figure rising from the water in the pool. It took a shape of a woman and then she appeared in front of me.
Her hair, a long straight jet black and her eyes, bright blue as she smiled at me, in unconcealed amusement!
"You never took my name" she began talking and I smiled.
"That's because I have never felt this helpless before" I said honestly and she nodded, waiting for me to continue. "You granted me a boon for my sacrifice and I am demanding that now" I began and she nodded, "When I had sacrificed everything and surrendered myself to you, you kept me away from the rest of the world, by hiding me inside your womb. I was here, yet no one could see me. Today, I am asking you to do the same thing again. Today, I want you to keep this in your womb" I said raising the leaf pouch.
"I will" The Goddess replied without any hesitation and I let out a breath that I wasn't even aware I was holding.
A branch of a tree emerged out of nowhere and I passed the leaf pouch, which was then given to the goddess.
"I will keep it in the same place I had kept you for years" the Goddess began and I nodded, "However; I cannot promise you an eternal protection."
I paled when I heard that. The reason, I gave it to her was because I believed we could get forever be rid of Konrad.
"Remember who Konrad is, my child" The Goddess added and I blinked, "He was created by those whose mind were corrupt. By those, who let evil rule them. Sometimes, my children lose focus and get drifted towards evil. I cannot stop it from happening because I have no control over evil. I can try my best to protect my children, but sometimes, I am forced to let my children go. I am forced to give them up because I have been cursed to lose my children. I might not lose all of them, but every day, I still have to see my children give into death or to the evil. When the number of such evil people rises, they naturally will get tempted to bring back their leader and when that happens, I will not be able to stop them" the Goddess finished and I simply stared at her.
I understood what she was saying very clearly.
"Is there no end to him?"
"Ending him is like ending the universe... it is ending everything and then, there will be nothing left. No good, no evil. Ending him would mean killing the essence of life. That cannot happen because it will destroy everything. Every soul!"
"I cannot imagine that" I sincerely told her.
"Because it is beyond imagination. It is only dark abyss and it isn't evil... it is bad because we have nothing. No life, no joy, no sorrow!" she stated and I nodded in understanding.
Who would love absolute darkness?
I agree, life can be tough but there is joy in it just as there is sorrow. It is unpredictable, yet beautiful. We have family, friends. We have nature around us. We have happiness, grief, anger, faith, love... everything is beautiful in it's own way and losing all that... I cannot even imagine what would be left.
Maybe it's like just the Goddess said... a dark abyss!
Now, I understood why Konrad cannot be killed. He is evil and evil is a necessity of life. It makes it own contribution and keeps everything stable in this universe. If you completely destroy evil then the universe will get destroyed too because it cannot alone survive on good.
"I understand" I said and the Goddess smiled. "So, he will come back?"
"I didn't say that" the Goddess was quick to argue and I hitched my brows in confusion. "He may come back or he may not, but he will always be there."
"What if he comes back, what then?"
"Then I have to make sure he is stopped again"
"We have to stop him again" I decreed.
"I never said he is coming back. You assumed he will and if he does, I do not know if it will be tomorrow, the next year or the next century. But if he comes back, then I will make sure, he is stopped in time" the Goddess assured me and it relieved me of all my doubts.
Konrad might or might never come back. I don't know; but I do know how to stop him and I will make sure everybody does too.
"This is between you and me, my child. Nobody will know I have his blood and as promised to you, I will protect it as long as I can" the Goddess said.
Another thought occurred to me and I let it out, "Kasey and Vincent will know" I pointed out.
The Goddess chuckled and calmly shook her head, "They will never know where it is. Nobody will ever know. Not even you."
__
I woke up and found myself in the middle of the woods, having no memory of how I ended up here. I sat up and looked at my friends, who were circling me.
It was early in the morning because I could see the sun rays getting canopied by the thick trees. The stars were present in the sky while I had been taking the drop of blood away. Where was I all this time then?
"Q? Are you alright?" Nevin asked crouching down beside me and I furrowed my brows.
I remember taking the blood and running away, determined to hide it. I remember running in these woods... but I don't remember anything else.
"The blood? Where is it?" I asked them.
"Konrad's blood? You took it... right?" Harvey asked in confusion.
"I did... But I don't know where did Iâ"
I stopped talking as I realized something.
I was determined to give it to the Goddess and I might have given it to her... I don't remember. She has taken that memory from me. I don't remember where she has kept it, but I did know, she had it!
Maybe it's in this wood, inside a powerful trunk of the tree or buried underneath the ground, but wherever the Goddess had kept it, it was pretty safe because I do remember her promise to protect it.
"You don't know where you kept the blood?" Nevin asked in shock.
Grinning, I stood up, "I don't."
"What do you mean you don't remember?" Ram asked confused.
"My memory got erased"
"By whom?"
"By Gaia"
"Who is she?"
"A gifted one" I finished and walked away. I know they thought Gaia was a gifted she-wolf and I let them think so!
__
After a quick shower, I drove to Emperor.
Mom had already filled in the details to me and told me that the Luna's condition hadn't improved at all.
Once I reached the clinic, I looked for Darya. She was very tired and the doctor had to drug her and put her to sleep when she refused to take rest.
My wolf was anxious and pacing inside me. He wouldn't calm down until he had Darya in his arms.
I walked inside her room, where Luna Raven Moreland was sitting with her son in her lap.
"Hello" she said smiling at me and I nodded.
Darya, who had also woken up, smiled sadly at me, when she saw me. I stood near the foot of the bed and simply stared at her, until the Luna excused herself and went out.
It was then that Darya's lower lip trembled and she first let out the tear that she had been holding back for the past three days.
Murmuring soothing words, I closed the distance between us and wrapped my arms around her, while she sobbed against my chest. My wolf whimpered painfully, unable to see her like this.
We stayed like that for a long, long time. I kept running my hand through Darya's hair, comforting her.
Slowly, she pulled away and then I wiped her tear stained cheeks, while she looked at me with those dark grey eyes that had me captured since the first moment I saw her.
"Vincent didn't say anything. I asked him if Sel is going to be okay or not, but he didn't reply to me. He shifted and ran home. I am so scared" Darya gulped.
"Don't be. Nothing is going to happen to her. She is strong" I said and sniffing, Darya nodded.
"She will be fine" Darya repeated, just to assure herself.
I watched Darya taking deep breaths, while mentally repeating the same thing again and again. Holding her hand, I tried to offer as much comfort as I could.
After sometime, Darya wiped her cheeks and then looked at me, "You kept it safe?"
"Yes" I replied knowing very well, what she was talking about.
"Good" she said. I smiled a little because the fact that she didn't care to ask, where I had kept it was duly noted. She didn't want to know it and she didn't want to get tempted by it either.
"It's over" I said tucking a strand of her blonde hair behind her ears.
Darya looked at me, smiled genuinely and then nodded, "It is."
Lowering my head, I kissed her and my wolf howled joyfully inside me. He was relaxed for the first time after a long gap and it felt absolutely fantastic.
Heavy footsteps made me pull away and we both pulled away to stare at the door. A second later, it was pushed open by my brother Quinn, who was breathing heavily.
He looked pale and breathless.
My heart thudded in my chest and Goosebumps appeared all over my body as Quinn uttered the most dreadful words.
"The Luna has slipped into coma."
