âSo how did he look at me?"
"Like it was his birthday and you were the cake.â

Quillon entered Quinnâs room, with me following closely behind. Even though the lights in his room were switched off, he was awake and he sat up when he saw us.
âItâs not twelve yetâ he grumbled.
âIt isâ I replied, while he picked up his cell phone and checked the time.
âNo. Wait a minute⦠Oh! Itâs twelve nowâ he grinned.
âHappy-â Quillon held my arm and shook his head. âWhat?â I asked confused.
âI have to wish myself firstâ Quinn said getting off the bed and I shot him a startled look, while Quillon rolled his eyes.
Oh?
âHappy birthday to meâ Quinn beamed, while Quillon moved forward and hugged him.
âHappy birthdayâ Quillon said ruffling his brotherâs hair. âMay you have many more to comeâ he added.
âThanks Qâ Quinn replied with a smile.
âHappy birthdayâ I said hugging him and also kissing his cheeks. There was a low growl from Quillon, which he covered up by coughing.
âThanksâ he said blushing slightly while I giggled.
âYour gift is thereâ Quillon told Quinn pointing towards the balcony.
âWhat?â Quinn said already making his way towards the balcony. There he lowered his head and stared at the swimming pool, where Quillon had placed his gift- an inflatable standing paddle board.
âYou got it? You actually got it? It looks awesome too and I already love itâ Quinn laughed hugging his brother again, while Quillon and I chuckled watching his enthusiasm. âI am going to check it outâ Quinn said hanging over the bannister.
âWaitâ I cried all of a sudden, remembering I have not yet given him my gift. âJust wait here for a minuteâ I added rushing towards my room. Fortunately, this time I ran to my new room. From my college bag, I pulled out the palm sized envelope. Running back to Quinnâs room, I handed him the envelope, which he took and started opening the seal.
âYou are giving me your credit card too?â he asked laughing when he saw my gift.
âUmmâ¦â I said shaking my head, while Quillon looked at me in surprise.
âOh! Itâs not a real credit cardâ Quinn said pulling out the card. âCredit card survival tool?â he asked smirking and I nodded.
âIt performs eleven functionsâ I pointed, while he separated the black finish and inspected the knife, can opener, screw driver.
âHey, this is really goodâ Quinn said running his fingers on the saw blade and I sighed. Â I honestly thought he wouldnât like it because compared to Quillonâs gift, this was nothing. âThe blades are sharpâ he said running his thumb on the blade of the knife.
âI have one tooâ I said grinning.
âThanks again Daryaâ Quinn said leaning forward and kissing me in the cheek. This time Quillon didnât bother covering his growl.
âYeah, Okay, goodnight. Go to sleep nowâ he told Quinn, walking towards the door while also dragging me out with him.
âGoodnightâ I told Quinn who just chuckled and replied the same, before closing his room door.
And we were back in my new room. Once again, my heart thumped in my chest and I clenched my fists, wishing it would help me in some way, but unfortunately it didnât. Sighing, I slowly climbed the bed and wrapped the sheet around me.
I was aware of Quillon switching off the light. I was aware of the bed dipping slightly while he joined me in the bed. But not once did I open my eyes. Instead, I turned, with my back to him and clutched the sheet in a tight fist, while my wolf purred.
Please donât do this to me, I begged her. I swear the female smirked!
Thatâs when I started singing lullaby for myself in my mind. Sometime later, I fell asleep.
While I woke up in the morning, I was in Quillonâs side of the bed. Shocked, I hastily sat up and looked at the floor wondering if he fell from the bed, but he wasnât there. I heard sound of shower running and I knew he was having a bath. Rubbing my hair, I got up and walked to the washroom to freshen up.
With only a towel looped around his hips, Quillon strolled back out of the bath, while I was washing my face. I froze, when I saw him through the reflection of the mirror, and my brain decided to shut down.
Oh Myâ¦
Quillon could give complexion to a Greek God!
Beads of water clung to his well-toned body and as I watched them roll all over his golden peach skin, my mouth ran dry. I couldnât stop my eyes from dropping lower to gaze at his abs. Abs, which I wanted to run my fingers at.
Breathing was difficult. However, the even more difficult part for me was to stop staring at him. My heart was racing wildly and as if that wasnât enough, my wolf was purring like a wild cat.
I turned pink all over, when my eyes met his reflection in the mirror while he was running his hands over his tousled black hair.
This is going to be one hell of a day!
âFinally the sleeping beauty is upâ Quillon murmured smooth as silk and I blinked. Since my brain was shut down, I was at a loss of words and hence I couldnât respond anything to him for a long, long time. âI thought you wouldnât wake even if there was a bomb blastâ he added, while I lowered my head and nervously licked my bottom lip.
Focus Darya⦠Focus! Not on Quillonâs body but on the snide remarks he was making. What is wrong with him now?
Shaking my head, I splashed water to my face and then let out a breath.
âWhat are you talking about?â I asked drying my face with the towel. I was mainly doing it because I was hoping he wouldnât see my face which felt hot.
âYou roll over a lotâ he commented using the basin next to mine. âYou kicked me twice. It was a miracle I didnât fall of the bedâ he added with a smirk and I bristled.
âI do notâ I growled out. I do not do that. I am sure, I donât⦠do I? No. I donât. He is just jesting with me. But how did I end up in his side of the bed?
âPlus you snore doll faceâ he added grinning and now I was sure he was jesting with me because I donât snore and canât tolerate those who do.
âOk. Thatâs bullshit. I do not snoreâ I hissed spanking his arms with the towel before going to the shower.
After getting dressed in a dark wash knee-length shorts and printed raglan sleeves tee, I went downstairs. Quinn was already in the living room, watching MTV, while Quillon was making breakfast for all of us.
Grace barged into the room, ten minutes later, followed by Scott. âMy babyâ she cooed wrapping Quinn in a tight hug. âHappy birthday darlingâ she said to him and kissed both his cheeks.
As a reply, Quinn just chuckled and kissed her cheeks. Scott followed and hugged Quinn and patted his back. âHappy birthday sonâ he said pulling away.
âThanks dadâ Quinn replied with a grin.
âWhereâs Q?â Grace asked sitting beside me.
âIâm hereâ Quillon said standing near the kitchen doorway.
âYou guys didnât have breakfast yet?â Scott asked with a frown.
âCut them loose Scott. Itâs a Sundayâ Grace piped in and Scott nodded.
âAlright. You guys have funâ with that said, Scott left. Quinn let out a breath once Scott was out of sight.
âSo babesâ Quinn began looking at his mother and my eyes widened at Quinnâs nickname for his mother. But Quillon just rolled his eyes and sat next to Grace. âWhere is my cake?â he demanded.
âI⦠I couldnâtâ Grace said sadly.
âYou hurt me babesâ Quinn replied placing his hand on his heart and faking sadness. Grace paled and I felt bad for her especially because I knew Quinn was messing with her.
âHey, Quit itâ Quillon growled. âYour cake is in the refrigerator.â
âReally?â Quinn asked surprised and off he went to the kitchen.
âI am glad you brought it. I tried and tried-â Grace began sadly.
âHe is an idiot ma⦠he didnât actually want you to prepare oneâ Quillon told his mother, while Quinn brought the cake and kept it in the coffee table.
âSsshhhh⦠stop talking, I have to make a wishâ Quinn ordered us. He closed his eyes and opened it a split second later, while I just stared at him like he has gone bonkers. âOops! There is no candleâ he murmured with a grin and I nodded.
How can a wish come true if you do not blow the candle?
âItâs a waste anyway but damn, I wanted my wish to come trueâ he said while cutting the cake.
âWhat did you wish for?â Grace asked curiously.
âI wished that the nature goddess does justice to my babes in her next life and give her a handsome mateâ he said grinning. I bit my bottom lip to stop laughing out loud while Quillon just chuckled and shook his head, as if he is used to it.
âYou started againâ Grace growled, but she was also trying her best to hide her laughter.
âLook at her, babes is so beautifulâ Quinn said to me pointing at his mother. âNature played her for fool and made ugly Scott Sanders as her mate.â At this I burst out laughing, while Grace stood up and began chasing after Quinn, who ran around the house, while also eating his cake.
âIs he always like this?â I demanded watching Quinn who was running around the living room with Grace following him and also scolding him for saying such things about his father.
âHe has always been a little jackassâ Quillon murmured, but there was a grin on his face as he watched Quinn stick a piece of cake into Graceâs mouth, while she was yelling at him.
âOh My God! Nature indeed played me for fool. I asked for a pretty little girl the second time and look what I gotâ Grace told me frowning at Quinn, who was stuffing cake inside his mouth. âNow donât just eat the cake alone. Share it with your brother and Daryaâ she reprimanded Quinn with a frown.
âI never told them to not to eatâ Quinn grumbled eating a cake.
Grace sighed, cut two pieces and handed one each for me and Quillon. âYou made this?â I asked Quillon while eating my cake.
âOrderedâ he replied.
Grace was with us until afternoon and surprisingly, it was fun. In their family, Quillon was the responsible son, while Quinn was the mischievous son. Quinn liked annoying Grace, while Quillon was always there to calm his mother. However Quillon never scolded Quinn. In fact, I just realized that Quillon never says no to anything Quinn wants.
Quinn picked the menu for lunch and it was ordered immediately. Anything he wanted was his.
I realized that Quinn is the baby of the family and he is treated like one. Itâs kind of similar to the way I was treated by the five Alphasâ but the only difference; I am not playful like Quinn.
The lunch went well and Scott was surprisingly nice to me. He didnât pass any snide remarks, but yes, asked me about my gift. Grace asked me to show it to her. While showing my supposed gift of âcontrolling electricityâ to her, I realized that I couldnât generate any more from my body because the amount that I had absorbed the other day had been exhausted.
When Scott asked why it was so, I lied to them that I was tired and so Grace asked me to rest after lunch.
Thatâs what I was supposed to do now, resting. However I couldnât rest and instead, I was texting my friend Sabine.
Sabine: You picked your dress for the party?
Darya: Not yet...
Sabine: Need some help?
Then I ended up video chatting with her and after forty minutes, a three quarter sleeves, wine color, crochet lace bodycon dress was picked. It was sexy and one of my favorites.
âYou will look beautiful and I am sure he will not be able to take his eyes off youâ Sabine had to add that part at the end and I scrunched up my nose. Why would I want him to do that?
âYeah, yeah understood, Thank-you sweetieâ I muttered before hanging up.
After that I picked my laptop and started working on my assignment, which had to be submitted by the end of this week.
___
âSo, where exactly is this nightclub?â I asked Quillon while I was brushing my hair. I was changing in the bathroom, while Quillon was changing clothes in the closet. It was already nine in the evening and we were now leaving for the nightclub where Quinnâs birthday party was going to take place.
âItâs in Parker-Davis street.â I realized that it was in town and close to a university in Serene Pack
âName?â
âPhoenix.â I sniggered as I heard the name but then again, night clubs always have strange names. I often wonder who picks those names.
Quillon walked into the bathroom just while I was wearing my black strappy platform sandals. He was wearing formals; I knew it just by looking at his leather shoes. He stood near the door, six foot of masculinity, wearing a dark black trousers, a tucked in white cotton shirt and blazer over it. The only accessory he had was a stainless steel watch.
I sucked in as much oxygen as possible because he looked exquisite. Well aware of my warm cheeks, I lowered my head to put on my heels.
âWhy the coat?â Quillon prompted watching me.
âItâs a little cold outsideâ I replied without looking at him.
âTake it off.â It was an order.
âNoâ
âYou are wearing something under the coat right?â he demanded uneasily and I looked up, astonished only to see dark color flaring Quillonâs prominent cheek bones. He looked disconcerted and my wolf yapped happily.
âMaybeâ I teased standing up.
âDaryaâ Quillon called in warning, but I chose to ignore it.
After having a glimpse of myself at the mirror, I walked past Quillon ignoring his frowning face.
___
Quillon brought his car to a halt outside the club, where already many people were standing in a queue for entry. It was a tall building called Serene Heights and in that, the first two floors were for the club.
âBossâ the doormen said in unison as soon as they saw Quillon.
Quillon wrapped an arm around my waist and ushered me inside, after passing his car keys to a doorman.
âHave you ever not been a boss?â I asked in a low voice once we were in the cloakroom.
âNo. I like it this wayâ he replied with a smirk rolling the sleeves of his shirt up to his elbows.
Smiling, I turned my back to him and removed my military coat. When I heard Quillonâs sharp intake of breath, I frowned wondering what was wrong. I whirled around and found Quillon staring at me, his eyes turning a shade darker as they travelled all over my body. There was nothing that could have stopped my cheeks from coloring or my heartbeat from accelerating.
He kept scanning me for a long, long time and all of a sudden I felt conscious. Maybe this dress doesnât look as good on me as I thought it would? It did feel a little tight. Damn! What if it looks odd? Why do I care so much?
âYou look incredibleâ Quillon breathed out and it was a miracle my eyes didnât pop out.
âOh?â I said powerlessly when he studied my lace dress.
âYes and you were safer tucked in a coatâ he muttered and then holding my hands he swept me inside the club. I stared at our hands with wide eyes, but didnât dare pull the hold he had on me.
A tall man, who I assume was one of the bouncers here, was asking people inside the club, to spread apart to make way for us, to pass. Quillon walked like royalty and being with him, I felt the same. People stared; of course they did out of curiosity. But once they caught a glimpse of Quillon, they couldnât look away.
Words like sexy, devastating, hot, amazing body, sex-appeal, were used by different girls to describe him and I bristled every time I heard it or every time I caught them staring at me as if I was some sort of slut, entertaining him. That just looks, he is an arrogant asshole! I wanted to shout at those girls, that way they might stay away from him. But what kept me calm was that Quillon was holding my hand in front of all of them. I loved the tingles that spread on my body while he touched me.
Mid-way, Quillon stopped and turning his head to the right, he glared at a group of men. The men flustered in their seat and looked away, unable to hold his gaze.
âWhatâs wrong?â I asked in a whisper.
Quillon growled lowly and addressed the tall man instead, âI want them out of the club.â
âWhat did they do?â I asked in confusion.
âThey were passing lewd commentsâ he murmured and I blinked. Did they? Why didnât I hear it? And why do I get a feeling they passed comments on me?
We went through a door and then in that room, there was a spiral staircase at the corner that led upstairs.
The upstairs lounge was a private one and only pack wolves were in there. There was a glass dance floor and some were dancing there. There were only few girls. My guess only five-six in total and they were all in one corner of the club, gossiping. The tall man who escorted us upstairs, nodded once and walked away.
âQâ Harvey called as soon as he spotted us. Quillon nodded once and still holding my hands, he walked to him. âDaryaâ Harvey said with a grin.
âHeyâ I waved.
âYou are looking beautifulâ he added and Quillon growled in warning.
âThanksâ I said smiling.
âWhat time Quinn is going to be here?â Clay, one of Quillonâs friends demanded after we sat on the comfortable couch.
âAnytime nowâ Quillon replied.
âDrink Darya?â Clay asked me.
âNo, Thank-youâ I replied with a smile.
âDaryaâ I heard a girly voice call me and I looked up to see Bee, walking towards us with Nevin.
âHeyâ I said with a grin and rose up in my seat to go to her, but Quillon held my hands to stop me.
âCall me when you want to leaveâ he said and I nodded with a smile.
I then walked towards Bee, who was already sitting near a counter. âIt feels like I havenât seen you since ages even though I had seen you yesterday morning and you look so beautiful. Love the dressâ Bee rambled after pulling away from a hug.
âThanks and true, so many things happened after thatâ I murmured sitting on a stool.
Bee immediately paled a little and I cocked an eyebrow questioningly, âNevin told meâ she said in a whisper. âAboutâ¦â
âAbout how I killed Rick?â I cut in and she nodded with a gulp. âAre you scared?â I asked with a smirk.
âNo. I mean, I havenât killed any wolf so far, but my dad, mom, even Nevin did⦠so, no, I am not scared of you. But I was worried⦠I mean even Nevin thinks those rogues are dangerousâ she said and I shrugged.
âThe leader is, but others⦠are notâ I said with a smile.
âI hope that those rogues are killed as soon as possible or else innocent people will dieâ Bee sighed. âWhere is the birthday boy?â she demanded changing the topic.
As if on cue, Quinn walked in. Everyone stopped talking and started clapping, while Quinn waved like a celebrity and blew a kiss towards us. Bee and I giggled at that. He looked really cute wearing a red and black checkered shirt and denim.
The next hour was a blur to me. First Quinn welcomed all, then Quillon uncorked a bottle of champagne, after that Quinn introduced me to his group of friends, who were all his classmates and then surprisingly, the few she-wolves from the pack, who were in the club, came and talked to me. They were all nice and friendly. After that Quinn and his friends, had some sort of bet on who will get drunk first. The bet got cancelled the moment Quillon came to know about it. Then the dancing began. Quillon was still seated on the couch with his friends and drinking. I watched Quillon who was laughing at some joke his friend cracked. My heart fluttered in my chest when I saw the liveliness in his face. For once, he looked like someone just his age.
âHarpy alert, harpy alertâ Bee muttered beside me and I tensed.
âWhere?â
âNine oâclockâ she said and I looked. Sure enough, Leah and her little group were there looking stunning. But since I donât like them, I will say they didnât look that good.
Yes! I am a bitch like that.
I watched the way other she-wolves started walking away and maintaining distance the moment she entered. They were all scared of her and the fear was visible in their eyes.
Raising her chin haughtily, Leah looked around until her hazel eyes clashed with mine. And when they did, she smirked at me and I rolled my eyes. One of her friends leaned forward and whispered something to which Leah threw her head back and laughed.
Seriously? That lame trick!
âWhat a bitchâ Bee hissed from beside me glaring at them.
âWhy? What did she say?â I wanted to be amused.
âShe made an ill comment about your dress. But itâs a waste because you look beautiful and Q agrees with me too because he keeps looking at you every now and thenâ Bee said with a grin and my eyes widened.
âNo, he isnâtâ
âYes, in fact he is watching you even nowâ Bee murmured and I turned my head. Sure enough Quillon was looking because for a split second our gazes locked before he looked away. I sucked in as much as oxygen possible, while my wolf purred in delight.
One of the bouncers came up, said something to Quillon and they went downstairs along with Nevin. I furrowed my brows pondering what happened.
âOh-ohâ Bee mumbled staring ahead and when I followed her line of sight, I saw harpy and her groupie coming near us.
âHey bimboâ Leah said sitting on a stool next to me, while her friends hovered around. My wolf bristled and beside me Bee frowned.
âCat got your tongue?â she demanded and I looked at her.
âI am sorry, were you talking to me?â I asked feigning innocence.
Leah faked a smile, âHmm, nice try. What are you, trying to avoid me? Do I make you feel insecure?â she taunted. Her friends laughed, my wolf snapped her jaws.
âDo I?â I countered and Leah glared. I smirked when I saw that, âIt kind of explains why you always pick on me.â
âPleaseâ Leah scoffed. âWhat have you got that I havenât?â
âQâ Bee answered for Leah, who growled at her.
âShut up bitchâ Leah spat at her and then I turned to glare at her.
âMind your language. You are talking to the pack Betaâs mate and I expect you to talk to her with respectâ I hissed through gritted teeth.
âAnd who are you to expect so?â Leah queried smugly. âYou might be Qâs mate but he hasnât yet marked you and that just shows how interested he is in youâ she pointed out and my wolf whined. âYou do not even belong to the pack and once the two months are over, Q is going to kick you out of the packâ Leah stated confidently before walking away with her groupie.
âDaryaâ Bee called softly placing a hand on my shoulder but I shook my head and rushed to the restroom.
When I looked at my reflection in the mirror, I noticed that not only had my skin turned pale, but my eyes were also brimming with unshed tears, after hearing the truth Leah blurted out. Who was I in this pack actually? I was just living here for two months trying to be mates... I scoffed at the trying part because we were not trying. We were not doing anything actually.
My heart felt like it was shattering into a million pieces and a hollow feeling sank in. My wolf lowered her head and rested it on her limbs. She was deeply hurt by that harpyâs words.
What if Quillon decide that I am not good enough as a mate? What if he rejects me and kicks me out of the pack after two months? What will I do after that?
I was feeling very low at that moment and I wanted to talk to any one of my five Alphasâ. With shaky hands I pulled my cell phone from my clutch and unlocked the screen.
Before I could dial anyoneâs number, someone knocked on the door. I didnât respond, instead just started dialing the first number that came to my head.
âDaryaâ it was Quinn, who was knocking the door. âCome out quickâ he said but I didnât bother responding. âDarya please, itâs Qâ he said and I tensed, while my wolf perked up.
Hastily, I wiped those tears with my knuckles and then yanked open the door. âWhatâs wrong?â I asked in a whisper staring at Quinn and Bee, who was also with him.
âQ is about to shift and we need you to calm him downâ Quinn began holding my hand and literally dragging me with him.
âWhat happened?â I asked perplexed.
âHe came to know a girlâs drink was spiked and he just lost itâ Quinn said hastily.
âOh My! Is that why he went downstairs?â I murmured to myself.
âNo. He went because another group was creating a nuisance. After resolving that issue, he found out this girlâs drink was spiked. His wolf is at the forefront and I am sure it will only calm down if you are close. We have to calm him down or else he will shift in front of humansâ Quinn said pushing open the door and there, I spotted Quillon first, who with his hands pressed against the bar counter, was shaking in anger.
A girl about my age was standing a few feet away and sobbing in distress. I am sure her drink was spiked. There were few drops of blood on the floor and I grimaced when I saw that. It was definitely the culpritâs.
Quillonâs friends were close but no one dared to approach him and then there were the humans, who were all staring out of curiosity.
âGoâ Quinn hissed and I frowned.
âGo and do what?â I asked confused.
âKiss him or whatever, just make sure he doesnât shift hereâ Nevin said in a low voice.
âJust calm him downâ and then I was shoved so hard, on my back, by Quinn that tripping on my heels, I roughly collided against Quillonâs back.
âOh my Godâ I said shakily when Quillon turned to glare at me. I gasped when I noticed that his fangs were out and his eyes were dark as midnight.
He was about to growl, but then slowly his eyes widened when he realized it was me. My wolf was relieved to see just that tiny reaction from him. Well aware that neither Quillon nor his wolf would harm me, I slowly moved closer and placed a hand on his arm. Tingles spread through my body and it slowly uplifted my wolfâs sour mood.
âCalm downâ I said in a low voice but it didnât work. Nervously, I placed my hand over his clenched fist hoping it would do something.
Growling, Quillon removed that hand from the counter and wrapping it around my waist pulled me closer to his chest. His movement was so fast that the crowd behind us jumped thinking he would hurt me.
However Quillon didnât. Instead he rested his forehead against mine and closed his eyes.
âI want to KILL himâ Quillon breathed out lethally and I knew that he was talking about the guy who spiked the girlâs drink. I suppose he already got arrested. âHis intentions were bad. She was about to drink itâ he said harshly, his ragged breath fanning my face.
âBut she didnâtâ I whispered softly, cupping his handsome face. âYou saved herâ I added because I had already seen the broken glass on the floor. âYou saved her. Nothing happened, she is safeâ I murmured soothingly and Quillon opened his eyes.
I gulped when I saw that his eyes were still dark as night, however his fangs were gone now. Hitching his brows together, Quillon stared at me. For few seconds he just stared at me and feeling uncomfortable I gulped. However when I was about to pull away, he didnât let me.
âLetâs get out of hereâ he muttered and then holding my hand he began dragging me somewhere.
I just let Quillon drag me wherever he wanted. I didnât pay much attention to my surroundings until Quillon pushed open another door. This was an unused room, which looked like a large party hall and it was lit up by bright blue LED lights placed on the ceiling. There was a wooden dance floor, a bar, and plenty of tables and chairs, but it was empty because there was no one here except for the both of us. The hall had sprung floor on one end and I realized it was being repaired.
âAre you alright?â I asked staring at Quillonâs rigid back.
âThat fucker-â Quillon began in anger and I knew he was cursing the culprit. âHow dare he enter my club and try that stunt? I am going to slaughter himâ¦.â Quillon went on and on for nearly five minutes he kept cursing that guy.
âDid he get arrested?â
âYes. I will make sure he stays there for a long, long timeâ he ground out.
âDid you watch him mixing the drug in her drink?â
âNo⦠Iâ Quillon stopped, took a deep breath and turned to face me. âYes, I saw him. The drug was deadly one and often used in date rape cases. She could have lost conscious within minutes and he would have done anything with her.â
I inhaled sharply when I heard it. Thank-God! If it werenât for Quillon something bad might have happened to her.
âShe is fine... I mean, she did look a little shocked, but other than that she was fineâ I said sitting on a stool, near the bar.
âI know. I asked one of the boys to take her to her home.â
âSomething like this happened before?â I asked and Quillon stared at me for a long time before nodding. âOh My Godâ I whispered to myself.
âLast year, she was just eighteen. I didnât know about it until the police approached me. I made stricter rules after that, but still something like this repeatsâ he slammed his fists on the glass table, causing a wide hole in it.
Since he was standing next to me, I moved closer so that my hand touched his. âItâs all good nowâ I said and Quillon looked at me. âHe got arrested. She is safe. You are kind of a heroâ I added and Quillon cocked an eyebrow.
âA hero?â he repeated incredulously. Guess he doesnât like being a hero.
âHer hero, not mineâ I pointed out carefully and Quillon nodded, but he was smirking. Knowing that his wolf almost calmed down, I smiled and looked away, staring at my surroundings. âYour wolf is calmed right?â I asked after sometime.
âNoâ he replied and I frowned. As I looked, I saw that his eyes were like a blackest night. âThe reason my wolf was worked up so much was because he was feeling two things at the same timeâ Quillon began and I shot him a confused look. âHe was furious as well as he was hurt.â
âHurt?â I repeated unsurely. Why would he be hurt?
âIt was your feelingâ Quillon said and tensing, I moved my gaze to the floor. I was hurt by Leahâs words that time and I was almost on the verge of crying.
âDarya?â Quillon called but I didnât look at him. He enclosed a hand around my arm and pulled me towards himself. I growled loudly and Quillon frowned at me. âExplainâ he demanded.
âExplain what?â I snapped because recalling Leahâs words angered me.
âWhy you were feeling hurt? Did anyone upset you?â
âNoâ I lied. âI was just missing my familyâ
âYou are lyingâ
âI am not and now will you please let go of me?â
âNo.â I gasped, unprepared for that answer. âNot until you explainâ Quillon said smooth as glass when all I wanted to do was hit him, for broaching on the topic that is only going to distress me more.
âI donât want to talk about itâ I hissed.
âToughâ he censured silkily.
âLet me goâ I growled, using my other hand to loosen the hold he had on my arm and growling louder in frustration when it tightened.
I didnât want to talk about it at all. Leahâs words hurt and the more I thought about it, the more it would hurt because whether I liked it or not, what she said was true. But I also blamed myself, because I was the one who refused to join Serene Pack.
âLet goâ I imparted through gnashed teeth and my claws were out. Actually, I was angry at Leah and I wanted to dig my claws on her pencil neck.
Quillon didnât let go. Instead, he narrowed his eyes and watched me. I was losing my temper, up to the point that my growls turned animalistic. Just when I was about to dig my heels on his feet, Quillon let go and it was a miracle I didnât stumble on my heels.
I scanned my arm, where he had been holding me earlier. Even though it was covered by the sleeves of my lace dress, I could still see that the skin there had turned red.
When I saw that, I growled in anger and glared at him.
âYou are really very angryâ Quillon stated leaning against the counter and I scowled at him.
âOf course I am angry. Your fingerprints on my armâ I hissed.
âBut not at meâ Quillon continued as if I havenât spoken and I blinked. âYou, actually your wolf is angry at the person who upset you. Let me guess⦠Leah?â
What he said, without any doubt, was true. But then, what can I say to him? That I let Leahâs mean, spiteful words get to me? Quillon had already told me that Leah would be a problem only if I let her be the problem.
Besides, both of us are trying in our own weird way. It had only been a week since I joined and I have already moved to his room. So, I guess, itâs a progress⦠eh?
I compressed my lips to form a thin line and lowered my head.
âTake your wolf back; she is still at the forefrontâ Quillon said and I scowled at him. I hated it when he ordered me. He narrowed his eyes when he saw my reaction.
I took a deep breath to calm myself but I guess it didnât help because Quillon shook his head. My wolf was a little restless and she was refusing to calm down. I didnât understand what her problem is.
âWhat do you do to calm your wolf?â Quillon queried.
âTake deep breathsâ
âThat isnât working for you and it isnât working for me eitherâ Quillon said and even though I was a little confused by what he said, I didnât brood over it. âWhat else?â
My next step is venting it out in nature, but I couldnât exactly say that to Quillon. Which is why, I said âI dance.â
Quillon was silent for a long time before sighing and saying, âI never tried it but thereâs always a first timeâ Quillon said striding towards the DJâs booth, where music equipmentâs were kept.
I was confused until Quillon pressed a button and the very famous seductive tango music started playing.
âThatâs all the music there isâ he said walking towards me.
âWhat are you doing?â I asked, my voice a whisper, while he took my hand and walked ahead.
âYour wolf is furious and she needs to calm downâ Quillon stated, âMy wolf is furious and he needs to calm down too. If he doesnât then I might shift and go to the station to kill that fucker. So we are going to danceâ with that said he turned to face me.
