Wildcat: Chapter 30
Wildcat: A Forbidden Sports Romance (Wildcat Hockey Book 1)
I get to the plane way, way, wayyy early to make sure Iâm in my seat ready to go to Dallas before Coach arrives.
He didnât threaten to trade me or bench me, so thereâs that. He did, however, inform me that if I couldnât keep my head in the game and show up today ready to go, heâd strip me of the A.
And stripping me of the A, essentially demoting me, is the fastest way to get traded next season. I donât want that. Especially now. Scarlett and I are just getting started. I can picture a life in Minnesota.
âYouâre alive,â Ash says as he falls into the seat beside me.
âFor now, anyway.â
My buddy, soon-to-be former buddy, laughs, then mocking me says, âWeâre friends. Just friends.â
I scratch the side of my face with my middle finger.
His laughter gets louder. âDid you get Daddy Millerâs permission to date his daughter or what?â
I bob my head side to side. âHeâs not thrilled, but as long as I donât let it interfere with the team, then weâre cool.â
âWell, for what itâs worth, if I had a daughter, Iâd totally let her date you.â
âYeah?â
âHell yeah,â he says more enthusiastically.
âThanks.â
He rests his elbows on either armrest. âWhat about me?â
âWhat about you?â I ask as I stretch out and get comfortable for the flight.
âIf you had a daughter, could I date her?â
I havenât given a lot of thought to having kids, but I get a pretty great visual of a dark-headed girl with a smile like Scarlettâs.
âOh, uhhâ¦â I struggle to decide on the right answer. Ash is great. No question about it, but his dating history is a little all over the place.
His mouth falls open, and his eyes widen. âSeriously? Iâm not good enough for your daughter?â
His voice carries, and people look our way.
âCan you not draw any attention to us today?â I whisper and duck my head.
âWhy not?â
âBecause Iâm trying to stay off Coachâs shit list.â
âNot that. Why canât I date your daughter? Maybe sheâs my dream girl.â
I rub my forehead with two fingers. âI donât have a daughter.â
He presses me with a hard stare.
âIf I did, then Iâd let you date her,â I relent. Iâm proof that when you meet the right girl, the past shit doesnât matter. âBut Iâd be keeping a close eye on you.â
One side of his mouth pulls up into a knowing smile. âCouldnât blame you there.â
In Dallas, we go to the arena for a light practice first and then to the hotel.
âDeclanâs swinging by. We were going to hang and have a drink here, or we can go downstairs,â Ash says as Iâm about to call Scarlett.
âWhatever.â I pull out my headphones. âIâm gonna take a walk and call my girl.â
I slip on my headphones and FaceTime her as I leave the room.
Her face fills the screen, and Scarlett hits me with a smile that makes my chest warm.
âHi, gorgeous.â
âHey. Are you at the hotel or the arena?â
I tilt my phone to show her the hallway of the hotel. âWe just got here. What are you doing?â
âGetting ready to go out with Jade.â
Jadeâs head pops into view. âHey, Leo.â
âHey, Jade. What sort of trouble are you two going to get up to?â I take the stairs down to the first floor and sit in one of the chairs adjacent to the lobby.
Jade disappears as fast as she appears.
âSheâs saying goodbye to Sam before we leave,â Scarlett answers when Jade doesnât.
âYou need to go?â
She shakes her head. âUhh⦠that was my polite way of saying sheâs going to give him a blow job. We have a few minutes.â
She shifts the phone, and I get a glimpse of the tight green dress wrapped around her.
I bark a laugh. âFuck, I miss you already. You look nice.â
âWeâre going to this bridal runway show.â A slight blush creeps up her face. âItâs for Jadeâs column.â
âYou better sit far away from the stage then so you donât show up the models.â
She rolls her eyes, but her smile doesnât falter.
âA few minutes, huh? I can work with that.â
Her eyes darken. âYouâre in the middle of a hotel.â
âBut you arenât.â My back is to a wall, and I hold my phone closer to me so no one else can see the screen.
With a hesitant smile, she pulls the fabric of her dress down until the black lacy bra sheâs wearing is the only thing blocking her tits from view. âDamn, baby. Youâre so gorgeous.â
A shadow falls over me, and someone clears their throat. I look up to scowl at whoever has invaded my space and stare straight into Coach Millerâs irritated face.
âCoach. Hi,â I squeak out, âI was just talking to Scarlett.â
âOh my god,â she mumbles. I take a quick glance down to make sure sheâs righted her dress before I show him the screen.
âHey, Daddy.â
âHi, honey.â His face transforms when he speaks to her, but slips right back to irritated when he speaks to me. âWhen you finish here, can you grab Maverick and Tyler for a quick line meeting?â
âAbsolutely,â I say a little too eagerly.
Scarlett laughs. Glad one of us can find the humor in this situation. Damn, that could have been hella awkward.
âIâll call you tomorrow,â I say. âHave fun with Jade.â
âGood luck.â
I donât know if she means with Dallas or her dad.
