Chapter 91
Bride Behind The Mask
Frederickâs icy demeanor was as chilling as the Arctic, leaving one feeling frozen all over.
Marguerite stared at the towering man in front of her, her heart filled with desolation.
Being forgotten by a loved one was the cruelest cut of all. So it didnât matter whether Frederick believed her or not.
âI donât owe you an explanation.â
Frederickâs eyes were ablaze, the fury boiling in them, âMarguerite! You dare to talk back to me?â
He practically roared, a vein popping out on his forehead, startling everyone.
âKid, can you tone it down? Youâre scaring the bejesus out of this old lady. My heartâs pounding like a jackhammer, and I canât catch my breath.â
Laverne was all dramatic, and her eyes widened as saucers, looking utterly startled.
Frederick shot a venomous glare at Marguerite before lowering his voice, âIâll deal with you later.â
Then his anger vanished, he turned to Laverne apologetically, âIâm sorry, grandma. Are you feeling alright?â
Laverne gave Marguerite a sly glance, then shook her head at Yuna, âYuna, whoâs this handsome young man?â
Yuna blushed, her doe eyes all sparkling, âGrandma, this is Freddie, my boyfriend.â
âReally? Your boyfriend!â Laverne was grinning from ear to ear, âYunaâs dating! How lovely!â
âYep, itâs been a while.â
Listening to their chatter, Zoe assessed Laverneâs reactions to ensure she had truly lost her memory.
Then she leaned onto Ablettâs shoulder, letting out a long sigh.
The couple exchanged a knowing glance, their sentiments unspoken.
It had been a rollerâcoaster day, nearly dragged into the gutter by that villain Marguerite.
But luckily, Laverne had amnesia. So what if Marguerite was eloquent?
Even her grandma was against her now, letâs see how she dealt with that.
But they couldnât let their guard down.
After all, they didnât know how long Laverneâs amnesia would last. But one thing was certain, they couldnât let that villain Marguerite anywhere near Laverne.
That woman was a sly fox. If she found a way to restore Laverneâs memory, theyâd be done for.
Zoe pondered for a moment, then put on a dutiful face, âMom, you should rest tonight. From now on, weâll never part.â
Upon hearing that, Laverneâs mischievous eyes turned furious, and she threw a tantrum, âIâm not living with you. I want a big house. Your place is too small for me.â
âGrandma, weâve moved. We live in a big house now.â
Laverne looked at Yuna seriously. âIs it a villa?â
Yuna shook her head, âNot exactly.â
Laverne snorted, âThen no deal. I want a twoâstory villa.â
Her stubbornness was a stark contrast to her usual timid demeanor. Ablett whispered into Zoeâs ear, âNot only has Laverne lost her memory, but her characterâs changed too. Sheâs acting like a nut job.â
Zoe gave Laverne a cold look, âAs long as she doesnât recognize Marguerite, weâre safe.â
Then she put on a pretentious front, âMom, youâll have to live with us for now. How about we get a villa when we can afford it?â
She even shot Frederick a meaningful glance. She was clearly using this opportunity to have Frederick pay for a villa.
Laverneâs expression changed when she heard that, âNo. When will you be able to afford it? I want to live there now.â
Zoe secretly signaled to Yuna, and Yuna immediately understood. She looked at Frederick with a troubled expression.
âFreddie, what do we do? Weâre just ordinary people. We canât just buy a villa.â
Frederick was deep in thought, and his lips pressed together.
Finally, he said, âShe can stay at my place.â
The smiles on the Lockwood familyâs faces froze.
Laverne looked at Frederick, âKid, do you live in a twoâstory villa?â
Frederick started to answer when Chuck jumped in eagerly, âYes, yes. Mr. Winston doesnât just live in a twoâstory villa, he has several floors.â
Hearing this, Laverne nodded in agreement.
âAlright, Iâll stay at your place. But.â
Laverne scanned the room, her gaze finally landing on Marguerite, looking a bit greedy.
âYou have to provide me with a maid. That girl said Iâm her grandma, right? Let her serve me. Let her be my maid.â
