Chapter 573
Bride Behind The Mask
Marguerite had every right to be skeptical since she wasnât clued in on the whole story.
Miley, on the other hand, felt a twinge of guilt. They had zeroed in on Marguerite and Yuna as their prime suspects solely because of the portrait Teresa had drawn.
If it werenât for the uncanny resemblance between the Marguerite and Yuna, which made it impossible to distinguish who was who in the portrait, they probably would have gotten to the bottom of things by now.
And Mileyâs guilt stemmed from a promise she had made to Teresa to keep her talent as a portrait artist under wraps.
Now, with Marguerite pressing her for answers, Miley was torn about whether to keep holding onto this secret.
But Teresa was always a bit odd in her ways.
Being a portrait artist wasnât some disreputable job, and Miley couldnât fathom why the kid would opt to hide this from Marguerite.
If sheâd had such a skill at Teresaâs age, she would have been trumpeting her talent all over town instead of hiding it like Teresa.
Miley couldnât guess what the kid was thinking, and from her grown-up perspective, it didnât seem like such a big deal. There really wasnât a need to keep it under wraps any longer.
After a momentâs thought, Miley nudged Marguerite onto the couch, swallowed hard, and cleared her throat with exaggerated mystery, âMarguerite, what Iâm about to tell you might just knock your socks off, so brace yourself.â
Marguerite, puzzled, retorted, âCan you just spit it out already, donât keep me hanging!â
Miley opened her mouth to speak but paused abruptly, her eyelids drooping as if wrestling with an inner conflict.
After a long silence, she finally mustered the courage and asked somewhat foolishly, âMarguerite, do you know about a very famous portrait artist from Stonebridge City, goes by the name Terry?â
Marguerite furrowed her brows in thought, âRings a bell. Maurice mentioned something about that.
What about it?â
âAnything else youâve heard?â
Marguerite shook her head, clueless.
Miley plopped down next to Marguerite and began a rambling lead-up, âWell, this Terry is something else. She can sketch âage progressionâ. She can take a childâs face and predict how theyâll look all grown up! Not just that, she can work backward using genetics to figure out what parents or kids might look like! In short, sheâs a real whiz!â
Miley rattled off her spiel in one breath, then met Margueriteâs still-baffled gaze, panting slightly from her tirade.
âDonât tell me you guys found this Terry, and she sketched looks for me and Yuna, leading you all to be clueless about which one of us is Robertâs sister?â
Miley excitedly snapped her fingers in front of Marguerite, âBingo! Youâre not as slow on the uptake as I thought! Quick thinking!â
So that was it. No wonder they were so certain that Robertâs sister was either Yuna or herself, having already sketched their likenesses.
But it was strange; she and Yuna werenât twins, so why would they look exactly alike? Zoe and Penelope did bear a resemblance, but that didnât mean their kids would be carbon copies!
This was all beyond belief!
Marguerite mused, troubled by the thought.
Suddenly, a lightbulb went off, and she whirled to face Miley, urgency written all over her face, âIf Terry is that talented, then couldnât she also work out what my son might look like from mine and Mauriceâs features? I could totally go to her for that! Introduce me!â
Marguerite inadvertently hit the nail on the head, sending Miley into an awkward, guilt-ridden frenzy of scratching her forehead.
âMarguerite, actually⦠I donât need to introduce you. You know Terry.â
Margueriteâs look of elation instantly turned to confusion as she stared at Miley, bewildered.
She knew Terry? How could that be? Her social circle was limited, and her list of friends was short.
But in her memory, there was absolutely no one named âTerry.â
Seeing Margueriteâs puzzlement, Miley bit the bullet and dropped the bombshell, âStop guessing, Iâll just tell you. Terry is Teresa!â
