Chapter 457
Bride Behind The Mask
Marguerite was left utterly befuddled under Barnesâ intense gaze.
Could this possibly have something to do with her?
An hour later, by the time Yuna arrived at the corridor of the holding cell, she was well aware of what was about to unfold.
That coward Barnes must have blabbed her name!
But it was fine, because she had prepared her speech and was ready for anything.
What she didnât expect was to see Marguerite in the holding cell!
What was that wench doing here?
Of course! Marguerite was somehow aware of last nightâs shooting incident.
While Yuna glared daggers at Marguerite, Barnes looked at Yuna with a mischievous twinkle in his eye and asked affectionately, âThere you are.â
The nerve of him! To address her with such familiarity in front of Freddie!
Yuna was so irate she could have jumped out of her skin as she struggled to contain her anger, âPfft!
Who gave you the right to speak to me like that?â
Barnes, seemingly unbothered, continued, âYuna, fetch me a glass of water, will ya? Out of everyone here, youâre the only one who cares about me.â
âDonât talk like thereâs something between us. I donât know you!â
As Yuna spoke, she nervously glanced at Frederick.
Frederickâs eyes were deep and probing, his gaze upon her felt like a crossâexamination, making Yunaâs heart pound.
âWhat are you waiting for? Get the water.â After a tense silence, Frederick abruptly broke the stillness.
What⦠Whatâs going on? Why was Freddie agreeing to let her fetch water for Barnes?
Reluctantly, Yuna picked up a paper cup from the table and walked over to the water cooler. She slowly filled the cup with water.
But unseen by the others, she concealed a small white pill beneath her beautifully manicured index finger.
With a slight tap, the pill dropped into the water and dissolved instantly.
Then, with a huff, she slammed the cup down on the table in front of Barnes.
She crossed her arms and tilted her chin up disdainfully, refusing to look any longer than necessary.
Barnes shook the handcuffs in his hand and snorted, âHow am I supposed to drink this?â
Yuna snapped back, âDonât push your luck!â
âFeed him!â The command came from Frederick.
Yuna looked at Frederick in disbelief, her eyes filled with silent reproach.
He enunciated each word, his eyes piercing as if they could see right through her soul, âFeed him, and donât make me repeat myself!â
Frederickâs raised voice left Yuna breathless, and she complied without another sound.
Marguerite, on the other hand, watched the scene unfold with a knowing look.
The moment Yuna arrived, Barnes greeted and bossed her around.
Perhaps, Barnes was trying to show Frederick that they were not strangers as Yuna claimed.
Barnesâ tone was natural and affectionate, but Yunaâs reaction was notably hostile.
She seemed to have hated Barnes for a long time.
After gulping down the water, Frederick spoke again, âTell me, why did you hurt my son?â
Barnes, with a meaningful look at Yuna, replied, âMr. Winston, you should really be asking Yuna about that.â
Yuna was prepared. She feigned innocence and indignantly retorted, âAsking me what? Donât talk nonsense! Which of my sons did you hurt â Manley or Hayes?â
But Barnes just smiled at Yuna, âMr. Winston has found all the money transfer youâve been funneling to me over the years.â
Like a bolt from the blue, Yuna was left speechless.
