Chapter 418
Bride Behind The Mask
A half-hour later, at Emerald Meadows.
As soon as Maurice walked into the room, he saw Marguerite bustling about in the kitchen.
She was wearing a beige silk gown, the material draped perfectly over her figure, and the length of the gown accentuating her curvaceous form.
Mauriceâs eyes narrowed as he moved in to wrap his arms around Margueriteâs slender waist from behind, âAre you bored? You rarely come into the kitchen.â
His cool hand traced over the fabric of her dress, causing Marguerite to break out in goosebumps. She pushed him away in a panic, her face alert, âBack off!â
Maurice remained calm, advancing once more but avoiding any physical contact.
âWeâll hear from our son soon,â he said.
Surprises always catch you off guard.
Marguerite was initially taken aback, then disbelief set in, âReally? Youâre not fooling me?â
Her excitement overwhelmed her, and amidst the chaos, she accidentally knocked over the trash bin by her feet.
This is wonderful! Absolutely wonderful! Perseverance pays off!
Once her son was found, she vowed to stick by his side, never letting him out of her sight.
Seeing her joy, a smile spread across Mauriceâs face, âBut if our son comes back, he wouldnât want his parents to be apart. Heâd want a complete family. Marguerite, you know what I mean.â
Marguerite paused, sensing that Maurice was once again bringing up marriage.
Her joy turned to indignation, her chest heaving with a sense of sorrow, âMaurice! He is your son too, how could you use him as a bargaining chip, threatening me into marrying you?â
Maurice shrugged nonchalantly, undeterred, âIâm thinking the best for our son.â
âYou were so confident in getting me to marry you, so why are you saying all this now?â
Maurice corrected her, âThereâs a difference between voluntary and forced.â
Voluntary and forced? Well, thatâs a grand way to put it.
Margueriteâs anger flared, her eyes blazing as she met his gaze, unafraid to expose his true intentions.
âYouâre just playing a game with me! You not only want to outdo Frederick, you also want to win me over, to prove yourself superior to Frederick, to show that with just a snap of your fingers, Iâd fall into your arms! Youâre wrong, Maurice, youâve been a loser from the start, you lost to Frederick and you lost to me! Because from start to finish, Frederick is the only one in my heart, and I will never willingly marry you!â
Margueriteâs words stung, infuriated Maurice. He had been patient and tolerant towards Marguerite for the past three years, no matter how she acted out, he was always in control, never engaging in a full-
blown argument.
But to say that he lost to Frederick? How could Maurice stand for that?
His gaze was furious as he glared at her, his long arm wrapping around her neck, pinning her against the wall.
âMarguerite, have I been too nice to you? I warn you, donât push your luck! You know thereâs nothing I wouldnât do! Including sleeping with you!â
With that, Mauriceâs hand moved to lift Margueriteâs skirt.
Marguerite was terrified, her palms sweaty, she kicked out at him, but he remained immovable, trapping her in his embrace.
âLet go of me, Maurice! Do you want to bet that if you touch me today, Iâll be dead in your bed tonight!â
Mauriceâs eyes were bloodshot as he glared at Marguerite. âIâd rather you die in my bed, Iâd think less of you if you didnât!â
In the midst of their argument, the servant Nadine rushed in, her face pale with fear, âSir, thereâs a call from the Winston Mansion. They said the master has broken his leg and itâs caused a series of complications. You should call back right away!â
