Chapter 382
Bride Behind The Mask
Teresa glanced at Hayes. She wondered if the birthday boy would be upset, thinking she was out to steal his fatherâs affection, upon discovering he had a sister. She shifted her gaze to Maurice.
Poor Maurice, she thought, as she watched him drown his sorrows in glasses of bourbon. The news of her acknowledging Hayesâs daddy as her dad would probably crush him. Regardless, she knew she shouldnât mention it at this moment.
Jocelyn gently cleaned some frosting off Teresaâs face with a napkin, her tone even softer, âThey areâ¦?â
They are my⦠classmate!â Teresaâs face turned beet red, âSince when do classmates get engaged?â
Jocelyn couldnât help but laugh.
Teresa, with her innocent comments, was always such a delight. Besides, an engagement between her and Hayes wouldnât be such a bad idea.
Furthermore, the two kids looked strikingly alike.
âWell, classmates can get engaged too,â she said.
Teresa didnât know how to respond. She looked at Marguerite with pleading eyes, as though asking for help.
Seeing this, Marguerite put down her wine glass and sat back down, âItâs not that Teresa doesnât want to marry Hayes or Manley. She just isnât good enough for Yuna and Mr. Frederickâs sons. After all, weâre not from a top-tier wealthy family, I donât think Yuna would want it to happen either.â
Yuna didnât catch the sarcasm in Margueriteâs words. In fact, she foolishly thought Marguerite was being self-aware! She raised her chin arrogantly, looking down on Marguerite, and mocked, âGood! Even if all the women in the world died, Manley wouldnât marry your daughter.â
Marguerite asked nonchalantly, âIf thatâs the case, why did you invite us over in the first place?â
Yuna greeted her teeth but couldnât fight back.
Unable to contain her anger any longer, she put her utensils down, about to make a scene.
Unexpectedly, Frederick scooped a serving of food onto her plate and warned her, âCanât you keep your mouth shut even when dining?â
Her fiery temper was instantly extinguished, leaving her feeling miserable.
Damn! Marguerite had stepped all over her, and Frederick didnât even stand up for her!
Yuna, not wanting to get more embarrassed in front of Marguerite, decided to change tactics.
She immediately clung onto Frederickâs arm, pressing her body against him, her tone sweet and high-
pitched, âThanks, Freddie. You know how much I love BBQ ribs, right?â Frederick, taken aback, instinctively wanted to push the annoying woman away.
However, out of the corner of his eye, he noticed Margueriteâs gaze lingering on Yunaâs hand that was holding onto him. He remembered that she had used Mauriceâs glass earlier Perhaps out of jealousy, or competitiveness, Frederick unusually did not push Yuna away. Instead, he gently cleaned Yunaâs mouth, whispering, âEat your meal.â
Yuna was thrilled, nodding her head vigorously, even put her head onto Frederickâs shoulder, âYou are so sweet, Iâll eat now!â
Margueriteâs crystal-clear eyes flickered with a hint of desolation, her heart sinking slightly.
Without a doubt, she had successfully taught Yuna a lesson, but she didnât feel victorious.
Because no matter how Yuna behaved, Frederick would always be indulgent towards her.
Just that alone was something she could never ask for.
Marguerite finished her glass of red wine in one gulp, suddenly feeling a jacket being gently draped over her shoulders. It was Mauriceâs!
She turned to look at him in surprise, only to see him smiling gently and happily, casually saying, âAre you cold? You should dress more warmly next time, otherwise Iâll have to give you my jacket and freeze myself.
Although it wasnât a romantic statement, it made Margueriteâs skin crawl.
Why did Mauriceâs words sound so misleading? It felt as though they were already an old married couple.
Subconsciously, she looked at Frederick. To her surprise, he was also looking at herâ¦
