Chapter 38
Bride Behind The Mask
The moment Frederick stepped into the CEOâs office, he flew off the handle and angrily threw an ashtray at the French window.
âWhich department does Marguerite belong to? Get her manager here! Sheâs slacking off, and now sheâs not even showing up for work?â
Looking troubled, Chuck stole a glance at his irate boss and plucked up the courage to say, âMr. Winston, you said only you could handle Marguerite. So, she was assigned to your department.â
Frederick spun around, glaring at Chuck. âAre you implying that her absence is my fault?â
Robert squinted and shook his head. He thought, âIsnât that the truth? If you hadnât humiliated Marguerite with the jewelry purchase yesterday, would she be avoiding work to dodge you?â
Chuck had the same thoughts, but he didnât dare to voice them out loud.
Seeing this, Robert waved Chuck out of the room. He sighed and walked over to Frederick.
âThis woman is so headstrong. Iâm starting to doubt that she really stole the bracelet. Getting the patent is the priority now, and we need to get the perfume formula ASAP.â
Robert cautiously looked at Frederick. âHow about you apologize to her?â
A sharp look flashed in Frederickâs eyes as he retorted arrogantly, âApologize? Who does she think she is?â
1 Feeling helpless, Robert retorted, âShe didnât come home yesterday and she didnât come to work today.
She doesnât even have a place to stay. Arenât you worried something dangerous might happen to her?â
Frederick félt a pang of concern at his words.
He took a deep breath. Taking out his phone, he sent a text behind Robertâs back.
[I was too harsh on you about the theft. Iâll help you clear things up. Where are you? Send me your location, and Iâll come pick you up.]
He had made the biggest concession, and surely that should cool her down.
However, Frederick didnât receive a reply from Marguerite.
He anxiously dialed her number again, only to find out that her phone was turned off!
Just a moment ago he could call her, but now her phone was off.
Frederick was livid.
He was worried about her safety, but she didnât appreciate it.
Frederick was getting angrier. âShe has crossed the line! Didnât she need this job? Fine, if she doesnât come to me, I will make sure she canât find a job in this industry!â
He made the threat, waiting for Marguerite to reply and come begging to him at the company.
But two days passed and Marguerite didnât reply to any of his messages.
Robert couldnât hold it in any longer. While trying to soothe Frederick, he cautiously asked, âFrederick, has Marguerite come to see you?â
Frederick had been troubled by this for days, and now Robert was rubbing salt in his wound!
He glared at Robert, his voice sounding demonic, âIf youâve got nothing to do, go find a job. Stop spouting nonsense here.â
Robert shifted his chair closer to Frederick and anxiously said, âFrederick, arenât you worried? No matter how stubborn Marguerite is, she wouldnât disappear without a trace. Have you tried tracking her phone?â
Frederick frowned. The more he thought about it, the more he felt something was off.
Marguerite was not the type to shirk responsibilities. Even if she didnât want to come to the office, considering her dedication to her work, she would complete all her handovers before resigning.
But she did none of that and just disappeared.
Robert stopped caring about Frederickâs mood. Love wasnât a chess game, it was not about who gave in first or who won.
If Marguerite was indeed in danger, Frederick would be filled with regret later!
He walked towards Frederickâs desk, turned on the computer, and said sternly, âFrederick, if you donât want something to happen to your wife, I suggest you get Chuck to check the surveillance footage of her last day at the company right now. Iâm going to track her phone location, and you better pray sheâs safe.â
Even Frederickâs cold and hard heart tightened at Robertâs words.
Could she really be in danger?
13:10 Without any hesitation or consideration, Frederick immediately called Chuck, âCheck the surveillance of Margueriteâs last day at the company, and do it as fast as you can!â
Soon, Chuck rushed into the CEOâs office with the update, âMr. Winston, I found something! Three days ago, Marguerite took a call and left in a hurry. She seemed anxious.â
âCheck her call records!â
âYes, Mr. Winston!â
As Chuck hurried out of the office, Robert suddenly hit the enter key and announced, âI found Margueriteâs location!â
Frederick immediately went to his desk. He looked at the computer screen and saw a green location marker on the Google map filled with winding streets.
Frederickâs eyes widened, and his usually calm face was filled with shock.
That location marker was at Marina Shores Village!
The village that had a big fire!
It was where Yuna used to live, but how could Marguerite be there?
