Chapter 368
Bride Behind The Mask
Even the most obtuse person ought to realize, Teresa was being threatened, and the one threatening her was Yuna!
Jocelyn put down her fork and knife, swiftly moved to Teresa, scooping her up in her arms, saying with concern, âItâs okay, stop eating. How can you eat food that fell on the ground?â
Teresa, teary-eyed, looked at Yuna again, then turned away with the fear of a cornered animal..
Frederick was stunned, struggling to control the inner fury that threatened to explode. He asked Yuna in a tone laced with anger, âDid you threaten her?â
Yuna was both confused and shocked. Catching a glimpse of Teresa out of the corner of her eye, she saw the little girl grinning at her!
Damn it! She was being played by a three-year-old!
Yuna was about to spin a tale, but Teresa beat her to it, âNo, she didnât threaten me! She is very nice, she⦠she just⦠justâ¦â
Jocelyn gently rubbed the little oneâs arm, asking softly, âJust what?â
âJust⦠justâ¦â Teresa was so nervous she was practically babbling. Finally, she buried her face in Jocelynâs neck, sobbing helplessly.
âAnd you say you didnât threaten her!â Frederick was livid!
His eyes held a bloodthirsty glint, the aura of a man ready to kill.
âFreddie, itâs not what you think! This girl is putting on an act! Donât believe her!â
As soon as Yuna spoke, Teresa cried even harder.
Frederick slammed his silverware on the table, got up and strode towards Teresa.
âTeresa, come here.â Frederick promptly took Teresa from Jocelynâs arms, âDonât be afraid. If you have something to say, letâs talk in the study.â
With Teresa in his arms, he turned and left, leaving a commanding and upright silhouette.
In the study, Teresaâs tears had dried up, and she was now whimpering.
She was gasping for breath, Frederick was rubbing her chest, âBreathe. Are you alright now?â
Teresa sniffled, her voice heavy with sobs, âIâm better.â
Seeing the little one calm down, Frederick moved Teresa to sit on his lap, âCan you tell me now, what happened?â
Teresa remained silent, her head hanging low, looking like she wanted to say something but was too scared.
âWas Yuna threatening you?â
Teresa nodded subconsciously, but as if remembering something, she quickly shook her head.
âDonât worry, I will protect you. No one is going to bully you.â Frederick comforted her.
Teresaâs eyes were red and swollen from crying, but at hearing these words, she looked up at him, âCan you really protect me?â
âYes.â
Teresa opened her mouth, paused for a moment before changing the topic, âYou couldnât even protect Hayes, how are you going to protect me?â
Frederick was quick to catch the hint in Teresaâs words. Why bring up Hayes?
âDoes this have something to do with Hayes?â
Teresa looked pitiful and didnât immediately answer Frederick, instead, she said, âManleyâs mother said, Manley is the future heir of the Winston family. She told me to suck up to Manley. If I donât, she will hit me. And she also said, sheâs really scary when sheâs angry, and told me not to provoke her.â
Frederick clenched his fists, but he managed to stay calm, âWhy would she suddenly say these things to you?â
Teresa thought about the scene where Hayes was beaten in the underground garage yesterday, and fell silent again.
Seeing the little girl become scared again, Frederick made a decision, âAre you keeping something from me?â
Teresa sobbed, âIâm really scared to tell you. But⦠but you can check the surveillance footage of the garage from yesterday. Itâs about Hayesâ¦â
Why would Yuna threatening Teresa have anything to do with Hayes?
What on earth happened?!
âDamn! There are no cameras in the garage!â
Teresa looked up at him, her voice barely a whisper, âBut it should have a dash cam in your car, right?â
