Chapter 349
Bride Behind The Mask
The ringtone was Teresaâs favorite lullaby, but at this moment, it sounded more terrifying than any horror movie score.
âWhat do I do now? I told her I was going to Taekwondo class! She definitely wants me to hand the phone to the coach! Who can pretend to be the coach for me?â
Teresa was on the verge of tears, holding her phone as if it was a hot potato.
She turned to look at Hayes.
No way, he was a little mute, he wouldnât be able to pretend.
Teresaâs eyes then met with Chuckâs, who flinched as if burnt by her gaze, âNo can do! Marguerite would recognize my voice right away!â
Chuck then turned his attention to Frederick, âMr. Winston! Mr. Winston, maybe you should take the call!â Mr. Winston was always cunning, a true wolf in sheepâs clothing! He could lie without batting an eye, he was the perfect candidate!
Without hesitation, Frederick took the phone from Teresa, ready to answer the call, but the little one snatched it right back, âDaddy, no! Mommy knows your voice! You canât fool her!â
Daddy? This sudden address made Frederickâs heart skip a beat, stirring something deep within him. A strange sense of⦠happiness?
His gaze was fixed on the little girl, who was still busy with the phone call. She leaned forward in her seat, handing the phone to the driver.
âSir, can you take the call? Mommy definitely wonât recognize your voice!â
The driver didnât immediately take the phone, instead, he looked at Frederick through the rearâview mirror, seemingly waiting for his command.
Frederick glanced at Teresaâs phone and told the driver, âAnswer it.â
Upon hearing this, the driver respectfully took the phone, cleared his throat, and adopted a deep voice, âHello, this is Teresaâs Taekwondo instructor. Yes⦠okay⦠understoodâ¦â
The matter was smoothly handled, and the driver ended the call. Teresa let out a sigh of relief. She slumped back into her seat, patting her chest, âThank God, that was a close one!â
But just as one wave settled, another rose. Frederick wasnât about to let the little one off the hook.
âWhat did you just call me?â
Teresa stiffened, straightening her back.
14:56 Oh no! Did she just call him daddy in her panic?
Teresa couldnât help but reach for the paternity test in her pocket. She wanted to show it to him as proof that she didnât call him by the wrong name!
However, seeing Hayes out of the corner of her eye, she didnât want to hurt him, so she swallowed her words. She looked at Frederick with an innocent face, her eyes brimming with naivety, âI meant to call you Hayesâ daddy, but I was so panicked, I slipped up.â
Frederickâs gaze was unyielding, he asked again, âDo you know the relationship between Marguerite and I?â
Oh no! Daddy sure has a lot of questions!
Marguerite did mention that she dated him, but how could she admit it now?
If she did, Hayes would surely overthink!
Teresa shook her head vigorously, acting cute, âNope!â
âWhy did you say she would recognize my voice?â
Teresa was speechless this time.
Was daddy a walking encyclopedia of questions? Why was he always asking âwhyâ?
Chuck also watched with a gossiping look, and Hayes was also curious.
Teresa looked at Hayes, then at Chuck, deciding that this secret couldnât be known by everyone.
So, the little one halfâkneeled on the seat, her small hands resting on Frederickâs broad shoulders, she whispered into his ear.
âHayesâ daddy, I saw you kissing my mommy the other day. You bit her lips until they bledâ¦â
