What's That Supposed To Mean? - Werewolf Romance

Chapter 9

I woke up at exactly ten o’clock. The sun was shining in through the window, the sky was clear and blue and first, I thought, this is going to be a good day.

But then I remembered last night and every positive cell in my body died.

I checked my phone first and, just like I thought, there was a message from Mason saying that Noah had gotten home and was alright. Good.

But I still got up with a groan, not wanting to see or face the source of this problem – Noah – and decided to take a long warm shower.

It helped, let me tell you. But I still couldn’t get it out of my head. All through breakfast with my dad, as he went on and on about last nights meeting and how good it went and that they were going to let George and his pack know that they were welcome to join our pack, Noah’s face was in my head. It was frustrating and I didn’t know if I should tell Mason or Arianna. Aunt Bianca crossed my mind and Willa, but if I didn’t tell Mason or Ari, I wouldn’t tell anyone else.

And you know when I got it confirmed?

I had gotten dressed with light clothes, only a pair of jean shorts and a loose t-shirt, put on my shoes and went outside to meet Arianna. That’s when I saw Noah making out with a new girl.

That was when I realized that I should forget it and leave it alone. That kiss was absolutely nothing except for his stupid hormones since he had kissed me and not the other way around. He’s the one who should apologize even though I had kind of liked it.

“Man! Are you serious?” Arianna hissed. “Nothing get’s through his head.”

Noah seemed to have heard her, though, and his head snapped up like a freaking rocket. As soon as his eyes met mine, I looked away, but not before noticing that they had slightly widened. What? Was he ashamed now? He shouldn’t have made the move in the first place! We were fighting for cheese sake!

“Mhm. I know,” I mumbled as we sat down on the chairs between our houses. He was on the chairs between his and Arianna’s house on the other side but they were close enough. I could hear it all and tried to concentrate all my hearing on Arianna.

“So my mom told me we’re getting guests for a while,” she said. “Well, actually, they’re going to stay at your house. Did your dad tell you anything about that?”

“Nope. He was too busy talking about last nights meeting. But he probably will, though.” I shrugged. “Who are the guests?”

“Liz Warren and her two kids. She’s an old friend of our parents’ and Uncle John and when she heard you were back, she wanted to come visit everyone again. Her kids are our age.”

“Where does she live?” I asked.

“D.C.” Arianna raised her eyebrows. “That woman wouldn’t have come if you hadn’t come home. She’s coming because now she actually has a reason to. I don’t like her as far as I remember. I don’t think I will when she gets here either.”

I chuckled.

“I don’t remember anyone named Liz, though.”

“That’s because the last time you saw her was when you were almost five or six, my mom said. We on the other hand had gone to D.C two years after you left. Remember when I told you on Skype how I didn’t look forward seeing Liz, who then had heard about us coming?”

“Oh yeah,” I said, laughing. “You were  freaking out.”

“Yeah and that’s when we saw her the last time. Let me tell you that Liz Warren is one scary woman. And she kept inviting us over for dinner and stuff and my mom being my mom, we went to be nice. But even my mom was getting annoyed.”

“Is she annoyed now that they’re coming?” I asked, chuckling. Arianna shook her head.

“Not really. She’s glad she has three kids so that there is no room for them. Nice, huh? We’re only good for those things. No but, sarcasm aside, they’re coming, in two days.”

“Two days? Kind of last minute, don’t you think?”

“Yeah. But her kids are nice, though. Her daughter, Jennifer, is sixteen and her son Tyler is seventeen like us. He looks good, if you ask me.” She wiggled her eyebrows and I laughed.

“That’s one good thing,” I said.

“And that is one bad thing,” said Jacob who came up to us, his eyes on his brother and the new girl. “Can’t believe that guy.”

“No one can,” Arianna muttered. “He’s disgusting.”

“My father got mad at him last night,” Jacob said, sitting down next to me. “Noah was gone all night and came back just a few hours ago, looking like hell.”

“Did he yell at him?” Arianna asked with an evil grin. I chuckled at her face.

“Kind of. He was mad, though. I could see how his hands were shaking. He’s really sick and tired of this crap. We all are.”

“He’ll change,” I said, nodding as I watched Noah. “Something started it and something will end it.”

I wanted him to change because I wanted everyone to change into better persons to have a good life where they took care of themselves. I wanted him to change because I didn’t want his family to suffer because of him and feel like they couldn’t include him into any family things. I wanted him to change for his mate. She deserved it because he was an asshole at the moment. And lastly, I wanted him to change because he was going to be an Alpha and no one liked a stuck up, player, Alpha. We all wanted to hang out with him and to be with him but the way he was acting made it impossible.

He wasn’t stupid; he knew what he was doing and how it was affecting everyone around him. He just didn’t care, like he had said. He didn’t want to change, not now. He wanted to do whatever he wanted to and he wanted to be alone. I just believed in him because that’s who I am.

“Hey you guys!”

My father grinned as he came towards us and when he saw our faces and what we were watching, his eyes followed. He shook his head as he squinted at Noah with New Girl on his lap.

"A new girl again?" he asked. "That boy needs his mate already."

"Tell me about it," Jacob muttered. “He’s gone crazy.”

“Don’t pay attention to it, let him do what he has to do. He’ll come around,” my dad said.

“What is it with the two of you Riley’s?” Arianna asked, shocked. “You’re so believing. Noah will not change, not for a long while.”

My dad chuckled at that, amused at Arianna’s reaction. He shrugged, glanced at Noah and then back at us.

“We’ll see.” He smiled and then looked at me. “John and I are going to welcome George and his friends to our pack, we’ll be back soon. And I forgot to tell, you we’re getting guests in two days. Liz Warren and  her kids. Remember them?”

“Not really and I know, Arianna already told me.” I grinned.

“Good girl,” he said to Ari. “Alright then, I’ll see you guys later. Leave Noah alone.”

“Bye,” we all said in unison.

“Jake, where are your brothers?” I asked.

“Home. Playing TV-games, sleeping, eating. You know, guy stuff,” he said, shrugging. I huffed.

“Guy stuff? Girls do that, too,” I said. He raised his brows at me at me. “It’s true. I would.”

“Yeah but you’re Sammy, which is awesome, but not other girls. Not Ari,” he teased, grinning at her. She glared.

“I do whatever I think is fun and games, food and sleep is fun. So is hair, gossip and fashion.”

“Yeah yeah,” Jacob said, still grinning.  “But I’m gonna go. I’m hungry and a werewolf needs his food.”

“True words,” I said, nodding. Arianna chuckled as he walked home and left us there, staring at Noah. “How sad.”

“And pathetic,” Ari muttered.

“Ugh, I’m gonna go home. I can’t watch this,” I said.

Arianna nodded. “Me, too. I’ll see if my mom needs help to clean the house or something.”

We both got up at the same time, said our goodbyes and went to home.

Two days later…

Two days passed and to be honest, they were kind of “dead.” Nothing special happened, Noah didn’t have a new girl on the field but left with her instead, thank God, and today was the day the Warren’s were coming.

We had prepared food and beds for the guests and cleaned the house and now we were all waiting for them to arrive.

“Any minute now,” Mason said in a low voice, all of us, Ari and her siblings, the Black’s and I, standing in a row, waiting. Our parents were standing a few feet in front of us and the rest of the packs were here and there. No one here seemed to like Liz Warren and I was the only one who didn’t remember the woman. Maybe I’d remember her face when I saw her but I didn’t know why everyone thought she was annoying and over the top.

I was glad I had put on a pair of skinny jeans; it was a bit windy and cold today. I had a normal t-shirt on and my hair was down. Arianna had braded a small piece of my hair and put/hung it “around” my head on one side. It looked good. (A/N: I seriously don’t know how to describe that. I’ll put a pic or something, lol)

"Are they coming or not?" an annoyed Jacob muttered next to me after ten minutes.

"I'll think we'll stand here for another ten, fifteen," I muttered back, hearing him agreeing. As if on cue (did I spell it right?) a silver brand new Mercedes drove in on the path, stopping right in the middle. A blond woman shut the engine off and came out with a big grin on her face.

Liz Warren and her two kids. Now I at least remember her face, as I thought I would. Only hers, though, not the kids. The grin on her face was… just wow.  I wondered how she could hold it there for so long.

"Billy!" she said loudly, walking quickly towards us. She embraced my father in a big hug, still grinning as she moved on to Uncle J and my Aunt Bianca.

"That must hurt," Theo whispered, making all of us laugh quietly because we knew he meant the grin.

Two teenagers, Jennifer and Tyler, I assumed, stepped out of the car, following their mother. Suddenly, Liz eyes landed on me and screamed in shock. It wasn’t a normal “aah” scream you do, it was a high pitched, long, one. Everyone that had been standing so still and waiting had jumped, everyone together. If it wasn’t that my heart had almost flown out of my chest, I would’ve thought it was cool, that one movement, but no not now.

"Samantha Riley, you have become a woman!" she screamed, embracing me in a big hug as well. I hugged her awkwardly back, pressing out a smile. Was she crazy or what, this woman?

"You are so beautiful and grown up! Look at that body!" she said, rather loud again, winking.

“Thank you,” I said politely, pressing out another smile. She went on hugging the rest, throwing compliments here and there. Leo and Theo, being who they are, even flirted with the old woman! It made us all laugh, though, and she didn’t seem to mind.

“Oh my! I almost forgot,” Liz said after the hugs. “Jennifer, Tyler, come over here and meet Samantha.”

They smiled but it seemed more of an “I’m sorry” smile which must’ve been meant for their mom’s weird and… extraordinary behavior.

“Jennifer and Tyler this is Samantha. Samantha, dear, Jenny and Tyler are my children as you probably know. Do you remember each other? You used to play all the time when I visited!” She smiled again, big and bright.

“No, sorry, I don’t think I remember,” I said honestly.

“Nope, me neither,” Tyler said. He smirked at me, but it wasn’t a “cocky” smirk, it was a friendly one, if I say so.

Later that day, when it was already ten o’clock at night, Arianna, Mason, Jacob and I were sitting outside. Thresh and Caleb were working on some experiment as always and the twins weren’t home. Joseph and Willa were with their mates and Tyler and Jennifer were coming out to join us soon.

“That Liz is scaring the crap out of me ‘til this very day and I’m only twenty years old!” Mason said a bit quietly so it wouldn’t be heard through the windows. “Unbelievable.”

“Oh my God, and that scream!” Arianna added. “I freaked out.”

“I thought someone died,” Jacob chuckled.

“Let’s just act normal while they’re here and then when they go we can be cool. It’s just a visit, they’re not moving here,” I said, shrugging. Although I agreed with them on everything. We’d have to see her every day now for a week or two.

“Thank God they aren’t moving here. I think we’d go crazy after a month,” Arianna said.

“A week,” Jacob changed.

“A day,” Mason changed once again.

“An hour-“

“There is Noah,” I announced, interrupting Jacob. Noah was walking towards us, alone thankfully, hands in his pockets and his face as blank as always. He stopped when he was in front of us, nodding his head up to the second floor of my house.

“The Warrens arrived?” he asked.

“Yup. They very arrived. The entire Ohio probably heard,” Jacob said. I laughed, shaking my head.

“What a hater,” Arianna said, laughing as well.

“Wanna join us?” Mason asked, breaking the laughter. It was a weird moment. We all knew how much everyone disliked Noah’s behavior and how much he didn’t care. Noah never hung out with us or at least his own brothers and father and that’s why we became quiet; we wanted to hear his answer.

A moment of silence passed with all of us staring at him, waiting. He was looking down, at his shoes and then when he looked up, he nodded.

“Sure.”

Shrugging, he sat down on the chair Jacob pushed to him.

“Where have you been?” Jake asked casually.
