Chapter 46

Arianna had been right; dancing to the good music was really fun. I had danced for pretty much almost three hours – I had to take a few pauses, though – with Ari, Hayley, Lillian, Stephanie, Ramona and Alyssa, the third girl from the “new pack.” There were many others dancing as well and we all moved around to the music, dancing and laughing with each other. Max and the twins and Mason were on the dancefloor, shaking their asses like never before, making us all laugh at their moves. Max was giving it his all and that was what made me laugh even more.

I had no idea where the rest were, but at the moment, I didn't really have any interest in that. I was having too much fun to care and all I could think about was drinking water now. I felt dehydrated after dancing so much. I excused myself, yelling over the loud music.

“I'm going to the bar!” I screamed in Arianna and Hayley's faces. They nodded, looking high as they continued to dance. I laughed, hurrying away from the dancefloor. I walked over to the bar and smiled at the guy. “Water, please.”

“Coming right up,” he said with a grin.

I felt a hand on my ass and the first feeling was shock and anger at who would do that but it was replaced in a split second by amusement and knowing that it couldn't be anyone else than my one and only Noah. If it had been someone else, my mate would probably have seen to it that that someone would not have his hands anymore.

I grinned, looking over my shoulder, my eyes landing on his handsome good-looking face.

“Hi baby,” I said, happy to finally see him. “You having fun?”

He came to my side and we faced each other. He pulled me close, hugging me. A groan escaped his lips and I chuckled. Was he drunk?

“You smell so good,” he whispered.

“It's called perfume,” I commented, holding my laughter. He shook his head, his skin against my bare shoulder giving me goosebumps.

“No,” he whispered huskily. “It's you. It's your scent.”

I could hear him inhale and felt his lips on my neck, softly pressing against my skin. I shut my eyes, smiling. I opened them again, aware of the fact that we were in public and that if I didn't think about that, Noah wouldn't either.

The bartender put my glass on the counter and I smiled thankfully, pulling back a little from Noah. I smirked at him.

“Are you drunk?”

“Maybe... but, not as much as you think.” He looked at me casually but somehow creepily. “I'm just horny.”

I gaped, totally surprised and not warned. I let out a laugh, shaking my head at his straight forwardness. Noah pursed his lips at me and nodded, as if to say “Yep, can't help it. It's how it is,” which made me laugh even more.

“And crazy,” I added with a grin. “We're at a birthday party, Noah, try to control yourself.”

“I can't,” he whined. “You have to go away for that to happen but the problem is that I won't let you go away so you'll just have to deal with this all night.”

“Lucky for you, I don't mind.” I smiled and gave him a kiss, our lips perfect against each other.

Jacob Black

It was a great party. Really. What wasn't so great, though, was that it was impossible for me to talk to her without showing how much I was freaking out. Did she know? Did she suspect? I hadn't stopped thinking about this pretty much since the day our hands touched and I felt that. I don't know about everyone else but that was strong and it was not something to deny. And as much as I don't seem like it and I don't really want to admit it, If I have a mate, I'm a sucker for her. Okay, fine, and a sucker for love.

I just think that if you have someone you love and who loves you back, you'll do anything for that person, anything to put a smile on their face, to show them your love and just make them happy. And werewolves have the luck of getting mates, mates that you're supposed to be with forever, mates you're bound to, mates that are your other half.

People that ignore finding their mates and spend their lives doing other girls, they don't have my respect. That's why I was so against Noah when Samantha wasn't here. He was a player, a big one at that and when she finally came. Damn. Even if they have bad history, if you think about it, they're perfect for each other.

“Hey man, what're you doing?”

I looked to my right, finding Chad there. He was with Michael and the newest members. I laughed in my mind as I thought about Michael and his little crush on Sam. That situation in the hallway with Noah a while ago is still hilarious. That's actually when I found out they were mates... yeah.

“Not much,” I answered Michael, sighing as my eyes roamed over the dressed up guests. “I don't really know what to do, actually.”

Chad chuckled.

“I know, there isn't much else to do than eat.”

I laughed, nodding.

“Agreed. How about you? Having fun?” I grinned at him knowingly; he wasn't having fun at all. He was beyond bored.

“No comments,” he said and we both laughed out loud. “So, um... How's it going with.. you know?”

I frowned, staring at him.

“With what?”

“You know... Ramona.”

It's an understatement to say that my eyes almost fell out. They were practically hanging out already and my jaw was clenched so hard it hurt and felt like my teeth would explode somehow any second. Chad saw my face and understood why I reacted like I did. He gaped.

“Wait, you.. I thought..”

“How do you know about that?” I hissed, stepping closer to him so no one would hear us. “I haven't told anyone!”

“No, no, I didn't hear it from your side... I overheard Mona talk to Stephie and Alyssa a week ago, or something. I just assumed that... you were onto each other and... I don't know. Aren't you?”

“No!” I hissed again, taking a deep breath. Okay, Jake, no need to get mad or even more nervous. He's a good guy, he won't tell anyone else. “Just.. don't spread this.”

“Of course, man, you can trust me,” he said with a frown, lifting up his hands, his palms facing me in surrender. I sighed.

“I've tried talking to her all night. I talked once, just once and that was because Samantha made me. You know what I said? I said, hi. Literally, just hi and then turned around and walked away. How stupid can I get?!”

I stopped talking, staring at Chad. My God.

“I'm acting like a girl, aren't I? Shit.”

Chad laughed, shaking his head.

“No, it's totally fine to react like this. You should've been there when Ronny and Stephanie were having this. Ronny was freaking out and he was worse than you, trust me. He was a girl.”

I chuckled, feeling a little better. I didn't really know Chad but he was in my pack and I was bound to get to know him sooner or later. Finding your mate was big but it wasn't a secret that couldn't get out. If it would get out from Chad, I wouldn't get mad, I'd just know that I can't trust him. For now, though, I didn't mind spilling my thoughts about Ramona. After all, he knew her well so maybe he could tell me something.

Wait. He said he overheard them talking.

“Did she talk about me?” I asked, shocked. “As in, said my name?”

He nodded.

“Yeah. I was just passing her room and the three of them were in there and I heard her say your name and something about mates. So I guessed that you were mates. Together. But obviously, you're not.” He let out another chuckle.

“Man.. I have to do this, don't I?”

“Only if you want to.”

“I do. I'll admit, though, now that I know that she felt something, too, I'm not as nervous because I know she'll understand what I'm talking about.”

“Then go and talk to her, what are you standing here for?” Chad grinned and put a hand on my shoulder, pushing me slightly forward. I nodded.

“Thanks man.”

“No problem.”

I took a deep breath and started walking, my eyes searching for her and instantly finding her. Her dark red hair could be seen from a long distance, visible like fire. She was smiling, listening to a blonde girl I recognized from the pack, as she was saying something. Ramona was beautiful, no doubt about that. But there was something more behind that beauty that I couldn't put my finger on. She was a mystery and I knew that since the first time I saw her.

I approached her and the girl, half smiling.

“Sorry for interrupting, but can I borrow Ramona for a sec?” I asked the blonde. She smiled at me.

“Of course! She's all yours. I'll see you later,” she said to Ramona, walking away. Ramona nodded with a smile and then turned to me, her green eyes blinding me. Now that I knew she had talked about me, about this, I could see the nerves in her eyes somehow.

“Can we um.. somewhere a little more private?” I asked.

She nodded.

“Follow me.”

I followed her close behind as she walked out to the back yard which was thankfully empty of people. It was dark outside but the lights from the party gave enough. We went out the glass doors and behind a wall where no one could see us. It was slightly cold, but colder for her. She shivered once, goosebumps covering her arms. I shrugged off my jacket before I started talking, putting it around her shoulders.

“Thank you,” she said quietly with a smile.

“Ramona,” I began, my face serious. “We both know what I want to talk about. And before I say anything, I just want to say that I know we don't really know each other and that this might be too soon for anything so I will leave it all to you.”

“Jacob,” she said, our eyes locked. “The point of all this is to get to know each other.”

“So you accept the fact that we're mates then?” I asked her quietly, taking a small step closer. Her body heat was radiating and I fought the urge to touch her, feel her skin against mine.

“Yes, I do.” She smiled and I let out a breath I hadn't realized I had been holding.

“Do you know how nervous I was about this?” I admitted to her, laughing. She laughed, a sweet sound to my ears. She was truly beautiful. And Samantha was going to die of happiness, I though with a grin.

“I was hoping you'd come to me first,” she said sheepishly. “I wasn't sure if I was ready to just tell you. But thankfully, you came.”

I smiled, coming closer, softly putting my hands on her arms, the electrifing feeling passing between us.

“I'm glad you're finally here.”

While slowly leaning closer, I looked at her for a sign to continue and her eyes told me everything. Not wanting to wait anymore, I closed the space between us and kissed my mate for the first time, under the moon.
