What's That Supposed To Mean? - Werewolf Romance
Chapter 4
Samantha Riley
Finishing my breakfast I went upstairs and took off my bathrobe. I threw on a pair of new jeans shorts and a mint-green loose t-shirt that hung slightly a little over my right shoulder. I was going for a run anyways and the clothes would just have to be there for me to put on afterwards. I brushed my hair and let it fall down as it was. I went down, let my father know I was out for a morning run and hurried out to the woods around our fields.
I stepped behind a tree as I undressed and shifted into my wolf. God, it felt good. I hadn't done this for a long time and she probably hated me for it. But I could feel her excitement now and it made me even more excited.
Don't worry, we'll do this a lot more now, I thought, smiling as I prepared myself to run.
I got into a position as if I was waiting for the countdown to run and started running. The feeling was amazing. Freedom was all I could think of as I ran through the deep forest, not hitting a single tree or branch. If there was one thing I knew I was good at when I ran, it was running without hitting anything. I could dodge even the smallest things like leafs and they just flew away when I ran pass them as fast as I could.
I already ran fast but my adrenaline was high and all I could think of was, faster, faster. I sped up, running and running straight forward for a while and then turned back, running to the right and then to the left. I wasn't even the slightest tired. Probably because all this energy had been inside, waiting to be used. I ran all around the woods that I knew were our territory. I breathed in every single familiar scent from when I was little, feeling home.
About â I think â forty minutes later of running, I decided it was enough for the moment. I went back to the tree where I had left my clothes, shifted back into my human form and got dressed. I smiled to myself as I stepped away from the tree, ready to go home only to be stopped by a certain Noah. His dark hair was ruffled and his black eyes were intense.
"Well, good morning,â he said. His voice was husky and to be honest, it kind of turned me on, but he was Noah so I ignored it.
âMorning,â I said back, smiling.
âTaking a morning run?â he asked, oh so casually that I wanted to slap his face. He was playing the same game that I was, pretending to not care about anything. Well I cared about a lot of stuff, just not him and I was going to show him just that from now on.
"Yeah. Very⦠refreshing,â I said, smirking.
"I know what you mean.â He looked me up and down, not very discreetly at that, and I fought the urge to kick him in the groin.
âAnyways. Have a nice day,â I said with a fake smile and passed him. I donât know if it was a chuckle he gave or not, but it sounded like it. I just continued walking and went back home. Rolling my eyes, I went upstairs and took a shower.
Noah Black
Sexy, indeed. But, she was Samantha Riley. Her hair was ruffled as if she just had morning sex, her lips were still pink and her t-shirt showed off a lot of skin. Iâm a guy; of course I look at those things. If I try to think that sheâs not Samantha, only someone else. Maybe if Iâd been here earlier, I wouldâve seen her get dressed but, what can a guy do? That would have to be next time. I had a date tonight anyway.

Later that day, when it was about six oâclock, I decided to take Arianna up on her offer to go to the shops and the café. I wanted to sit outside somewhere and see what had changed in my old home town. Arianna was ready to go as soon as I said the words and we were off. Toby, a guy from our pack, was walking toward his house. We waved at each other with smiles as we passed. I wasnât close with a lot of the people in the two packs but everyone knew each other, whether you hung out or not.
âSo, how did you sleep?â Arianna asked with a smug face.
âAh! Home sweet home!â I answered, throwing my head back.
âMhm,â she said, nodding knowingly. âI know. I hope that one thing will make sure youâll never leave.â
âTrust me, Iâm not going to leave for quite some time. I had a good time in New York but thatâs enough.â
âI agree.â She smiled. âCoffee?â
âExactly what I thought.â
We walked side by side, passing people that were getting ready to go home. By this time, there were people only in the caféâs or just taking evening walks. Or they ate in the restaurant, but otherwise, this was when they were getting ready to go home. As we walked, some older people from when I was little saw me and said hi.
âSamantha Riley! How are you? What a beautiful young woman. How is your old man?â
âThank you, Mrs. Holden. My dad is just great and so am I. How have you been?â
âOh, Iâve been well, thank you. Itâs nice to see youâre back. We missed having you running around!â She chuckled.
âThank you. Iâm glad to be back but Iâm not so sure I will run around anymore,â I smiled.
âProbably not. Well, Iâll be off then. Arianna, Samantha, say hello to everyone. Good evening, then.â
âBye, Mrs. Holden,â Arianna and I said together and then continued to the shop.
Thatâs kind of how five or six people came up to me and how the conversations went. I didnât mind though, it made me feel even more welcome and happy about being home.
Arianna and I entered the small coffee shop and walked over to the register. There were only three people here; a couple and a woman, sitting alone in the corner with a magazine and a coffee. Arianna and I looked at the menu. The woman who owned the shop, Mrs. Clark, came out and when she saw us she smiled.
âMy, my, my! Is it really Samantha Jean Riley I see in my shop? Five years later?â she said, smiling brightly. I chuckled and nodded. She came around the counter to give me a hug and then went back.
âHow are you, sweetie?â
âIâm great, thank you. I missed this café now that Iâm in it. Brings all the memories back. How are you?â
âIt does, huh?â She smiled. âEverything is great. The shop is still on its feet, Iâm still on my feet and so is my family. How was New York and your mom?â
âNew York was great and so was my mom. I had fun there, learned a lot, too.â
âThatâs nice. And I bet you did.â She raised her brows once, amused. âNow, what can I get you ladies? Arianna, howâs your mother?â
âShe is great, thank you,â Arianna answered. âAnd Iâll have a vanilla latte.â
âMe, too,â I said.
âOkay, then. Iâll go make them and donât worry about money; itâs on the house!â
After having coffee and talking some more about changes and New York, we headed back home. I told her about the way Noah was acting, all casual and nonchalant. Arianna said that he was probably up to something and that I should just ignore him.
âWell, I canât just ignore him. Iâm going to show that Iâm the bigger person and act all nice. Heâll hate that, trust me. I wont even get annoyed with him.â
âOh yeah, and how are you going to do that?â Arianna asked, scoffing.
âAll I have to do is think about how much my kindness will make him boil and then lose this game. Thatâll help me get back on mood.â
âHm⦠I like the way you think.â She wiggled her eyebrows and I laughed. Then all of a sudden, her expression changed, mouth down, brows furrowed and eyes angry. âSpeak of the devil.â
âAnd the devil shall appear,â I mumbled.
There he was and not alone either. A dark blonde haired girl stood next to him, wearing a short multi colored dress and high heels. She was all dressed up and done up. Noah wore a normal outfit; jeans, Converse, t-shirt and his biker jacket. He looked utterly normal and utterly hot but thatâs irrelevant right now.
âSlutty outfit. Too bad she doesnât know sheâs trash to him,â Arianna said in a low voice only for us to hear. He hadnât seen us yet so he probably didnât think about tuning in on our conversation.
âShe came here. Heâs meant to pick her up not the other way around,â I whispered, shaking my head and chuckling. This guy was too much. Disrespectful and as stupid as you can get. How much hate did I have left for him? I wasnât going to hate him already; I had just come back and I was sticking to my plan of winning this game. He was going down and he was going down hard.
âShush, heâs seen us,â Arianna whispered quickly just as his eyes landed on us. Both Arianna and I straightened up, heads high and walked as if we didnât care about them. When we were close enough, I smiled at him and the girl.
âHello,â I said, extra sweetly. I turned to the girl. âIâm Sam. And you are?â
âNicoleâ¦â she said, her eyes darting from me to Noah behind me. Be independent, say what you want to say, donât look at him! Gosh.
âNice to meet you. You two going out tonight?â I asked, glancing back at Noah. He had his ânot-bothered-by-anythingâ face on but I could still see the surprise or shock or whatever it was, written on his face. Nicole nodded and then smiled.
âYeah. Heâs taking me to the hottest restaurant in town.â
âOh wow,â I said, dragging the âwowâ out. âImpressive. He usually takes them to diners and stuff but you must be special!â
âThem?â Nicole asked, shocked, but I continued, as if I hadnât heard her.
âLast night he and⦠what was her name? Was it Sara? Noah? No, no! Right! It was Sandy. Yes, Sandy. He took her to a diner⦠She liked it, though, thatâs what matters, right? I think theyâre going out again next week so you better book yourself another table!â
Arianna was gaping at me and I could practically smell Noahâs anger building up.
âI⦠Iâ¦â Nicole was stuttering, poor thing. I was just doing her a favor; he was going to throw her away after getting laid anyway.
âOh well. Iâm going to go now. Have a nice night, you two lovebirds! Donât forget to bring a condom, kids. Be safe!â I winked to piss him off even more and pulled Arianna with me as I took five quick steps to my house. I pulled her in with me and shut the door before Noah would come barging in. As soon as we were in my room, Arianna burst out laughing and I laughed with her but immediately shushed us both because he could still hear us if he wanted too.
âShut up!â I whispered, dragging her down to the floor. We crawled to my window that faced the front yard and watched how Nicoleâs face scrunched up. She seemed to wave away all Noah was saying and hurried to her car. Noah took only two steps, no more, and let her drive off. He wasnât pissed she was gone. He was pissed he wasnât getting laid tonight.
âYou are amazing. Seriously, I would never have- oh my freaking God, heâs coming to your house!â
âWhat?!â I jumped up with Arianna behind me just as a loud knock came on the front door. My father, who was on the stairs, coming up, stopped in his tracks.
âWhatâs going on you two?â he said laughing. âYouâre giggling like crazy.â
âDad, you donât want to know!â I said laughing. âBut please do not open that door!â
âWhy not?â he said, already going down.
âItâs Noah! Dad, come on, donât open it, donât open it.â
My dad looked up and grinned, looking smug as heck. He was playing with me! He was going to open the door just to see what this was all about and what Noah would do. Arianna pulled me aside and we hid behind a wall, slightly peeking down at the front door that my dad now opened. Noah stood there, chest going up and down heavily as he let out loud huffs. Arianna covered her mouth, trying to quiet her laughing, but I donât think it worked.
âNoah! What a surprise,â my dad said. âWhat can I do for you?â
