Chapter 38

We were currently all sitting around the table – we had to get a few more chairs so we all could have somewhere to sit – , eating dinner. My father and Uncle John were joking around with the twins, making everyone laugh and them to glare. I was sitting between Mason and Arianna and Noah was sitting across from us between Jacob and Thresh.

Thresh and Caleb had been so quiet throughout all of what had happened and it wasn't a surprise. They were the most quiet and calm of all the brothers. They could be crazy but they usually were just down to earth, funny and nice guys, which I loved about them. Being older, they weren't – mostly Thresh, I guess – as shy as they used to be. I wished that they would find their mates soon.

Mason was teasing Thresh about just that; mates. Teasing him about how wild he'll probably be when he finds his soulmate and that all this was just an act.

“You'll come out of your shell,” Mason said smugly.

“And you'll lock everyone else in it so you can partey!” Jacob added.

We all stopped halfway eating, staring at him with confused eyes. Nothing ever made sense, coming out of his mouth.

“Brother, please, don't speak,” Noah mumbled, finishing off his bite on the fork.

“Ever, if that's possible,” Caleb added.

Arianna, Mason and I cracked up and laughed out loud, making Jacob glare even more than he already was. He chewed angrily.

“It is not possible for me not to speak. Sorry.”

“We know, it's worth a try, though,” Mason said, grinning.

“Seriously, dad!” Jacob whined. “They're all getting up on me! It's like a hundred people on one!”

“A hundred?” I looked at Jacob with concern. “Jacob, honey, are you sure you listened in class? We're ten people on one... You know, remove that extra zero you added. Putting two zeroes is one hundred. Putting three zeroes is one th-”

“Screw you all.

He got up from his chair and left the kitchen, leaving us all quiet and surprised by his outburst.

“Hey!” Noah called, getting up and going after him. “Watch your mouth!”

I sighed, shaking my head as I got up.

“Noah always intervenes,” I said with a smile. “We'll be right back. Nothing to worry about.”

They all watched me go and I made sure to shut the door behind me as I followed Noah and Jacob to the livingroom.

“- respect and not call people names, especially my girl, you get it?”

“Noah,” I groaned, stepping next to him. “No need for all of this, Jacob isn't even mad. He's just a little annoyed and he knows it. He's not serious, come on.”

“Get your mate out of my face, he always thinks he has something smart to say,” Jacob muttered.

“I do have something smart to say so shut up and listen,” Noah snapped back.

“Noah! Let it go, what is up with you?” I said, glaring at him.

“Oh you stopped ignoring me, have you?”

I rolled my eyes. This guy was hormornal. I wondered what it was. I wasn't going to react on his words because I knew that he didn't mean any of it. I could see it on him and I could feel it. His feelings were all over the place. I would have to talk to Mason or Uncle J about it. Or my father.

“No not really,” I answered and turned back to Jacob. “Jake, I'm sorry. We're all sorry for joking around so much. You know we don't mean it.” I chuckled as he grinned.

“I know, I know, I just thought I'd make it a little bit dramatic.”

“My God, you're so unnecessary.” I laughed. “Go back to the kitchen, let me handle this idiot over here.”

“I'm still standing here, thank you.”

“We know.”

He sighed, annoyed. Jacob smirked evilly at his brother and went back to the kitchen. I turned to Noah with a glare.

“Why do you always overreact and make such a small thing to the biggest thing ever? Please, remember that this is your family.”

“And who the hell are you to tell me what and what not to do? I don't care what anyone thinks, I'll do and say as I want.”

Okay, I know, I'm not going to react. But those words stabbed a little at my heart. This was definitely not Noah. This was the old Noah that I hated and that hated me. That Noah was gone a long time ago. Something was up.

“Fine, then go up to your room and don't bother us with your presence.”

He glared at me and walked up the stairs and slammed the door after himself.

I rolled my eyes, slumping down to the couch. I had lost my appetite. I went to the kitchen and asked my father to come out. He came immediately and looked at me with concern.

“Did you have a fight?”

I rolled my eyes mentally; they had probably all heard it anyways with their little curious werewolf ears.

“Kind of. It's just weird. His emotions have been so out of place lately? I mean, one second, he's emotional and sad, then he's so nice and then he's so angry and then he's nice again and on and on... Do you have any idea of what could be going on, dad?”

My father looked thoughtful for a while. Then he looked up and nodded.

“You know what? I think that it's the Alpha blood that is starting to get more powerful and dominant. Since he's the new Alpha after his father, he's preparing, both mentally and physically. On top of that, all these emotions about his father and his love for you – yes, it's strong and confusing sometimes – gets him all over the place. There is absolutely nothing to be worried about.”

“Wait... so, if this is because the Alpha blood is starting to get power... And I'm the same thing... Am I going to get all emotional and stuff, too?”

“Probably. Could be anytime now if his has started.”

“Oh man,” I groaned. “I so do not want that to happen to me. I'm going to piss everyone off.” I laughed.

My father chuckled.

“Mhm, I'm not going to be around you for those days, thank you very much. But other than that, don't worry, sweetheart. It only lasts a few days and I'm guessing this has been going on for a few days already?”

I nodded. He smiled and gave me a kiss on the forehead.

“Go make up and don't let it get to you.”

“Thanks dad. Sorry I interrupted your dinner. I know how much you love food.”

My dad's laughter filled the empty livingroom. He patted his stomach.

“Can't deny that.”

I grinned as I watched him go back to the kitchen and I took a deep breath before going upstairs to Noah. I shook my head. He's probably going to throw more words at me now.

I knocked on the door and waited. If he opened, I'd go in. If he didn't, I wouldn't bother him. But he did open and he looked bitter. I raised my eyebrows as I just stood there. I knew what caused him to be like this, so I'd be normal about it. After all, we were mates. No matter what, I was going to be there for him, whether this was on purpose or not. We'd get through it.

“So? How are you feeling?”

He looked to the side, as if my question was annoying him and then back at me. He shrugged.

“I don't know.”

I was about to ask him if I could come in but I thought twice about it. I'm his freaking mate and not only that, I'm Samantha freaking Riley. If it's my mate's room, I'm not asking. I'm going in like the awesome girl I am.

I walked in, laying down on his bed. I went under the covers and to the side that was pressed against the wall.

“If you want anything, I'm right here.”

Then I shut my eyes and immediately felt how I started falling asleep. Man I was tired...

I blinked once, feeling something soft against my neck coming and going. I frowned and then smiled as I recognized those small kisses. I turned slightly, my eyes meeting Noah's. Just like I told my father; nice, angry, nice, angry. Now he was nice. And regretful. I hoped this Alpha blood would just settle already.

“I'm sorry,” he said quietly against my neck, giving me goosebumps. The sky was dark outside and I realized that I had slept the entire afternoon and maybe even more than half of the night. I turned entirely to face Noah. The moon was shining on half his handsome face, the other half shadowed.

“You have nothing to be sorry about.”

“Yes I do, what I said to you downstairs. You are the only one that can tell me what to do and what not to, you know that.”

“I know, that's why you don't have to be sorry.”

I leaned up a little and gave him a kiss.

“Besides. I know what's causing all of this coming from you. My dad said that the Alpha blood is finally taking power and control over you, so you could say you're kind of going through a transformation. Somehow.”

“Alpha blood? Seriously, there are... “transformations”, for that too? What bullshit this werewolf thing is.”

“I know right. This is nothing, though. I'm gonna have this, too. It won't be that funny, let me tell you.”

Noah stared at me for a few seconds and then smirked.

“Ooooh, you are going to be so evil.”

“It's nothing to laugh about. I know how I am when my emotions are everywhere. I'm not fun to be around.”

“Well, I don't care. Just like you are there for me and have been these days, I'm going to be there for you.”

“Good luck.”

I chuckled.

“I love you,” he whispered against my lips. I smiled.

“Love you, too, ugly.”

He chuckled and closed the little room between us with a deep kiss.
