Chapter 36

The next morning, I woke up and felt so tired that I couldn't even move. As soon as my eyes were shut again, I couldn't even open them. I fell asleep.

I woke up, blinking at the light that was directed to my eyes. It was the sun from the window. I couldn't tell whether it was cold or not outside but I guessed the first one. It was getting colder and colder it seemed. I groaned, rubbing my eyes. Just as I sat up, Noah came barging in to the room. I jumped at the sudden burst.

“Good, you're up!” he said excitedly, glowing almost. “My dad's awake, we're going.”

It took me a second to understand and register what came out of his mouth and when I did, my mouth fell open.

“He's awake?! Uncle John is awake?!”

“Yes! The doctor just called! ” he was grinning like a fool and I jumped out of the bed and into his arms, squeezing him into me. Happiness filled me and Noah's joy was practically radiating from him. “You're coming right?”

“Of course I'm coming! I'm just gonna get ready,” I said, running around his room, collecting my clothes. “I can't believe this! Finally!”

“I know, I'm nervous.”

The sudden change of his tone stopped me and I turned around to look at him. He was biting his bottom lip, his eyes worried. Noah was never one to look vunerable or weak or scared. Now he just... he looked like all three of them. I dropped all my clothes on his bed and walked over to him, taking his face in my hands. He really was nervous.

“Why are you nervous?” I asked him calmly, putting my hands on his waist now. He looked around the room, thinking.

“Because... we talked to him. Well, you talked to him. And he's never... I've changed, you know? When we got together, I changed. And he didn't really get to see that. Now he knows. And I don't know how to behave around him.”

“Take one day at a time, Noah, don't stress it,” I said. “Be you, show him you've changed into a better person and let him know that you love him even if it's not with words.”

He nodded, staring back into my eyes. “Thank you.”

I only smiled and gave him a quick kiss.

“Now let me get ready before Mason kicks my ass.”

Noah grinned and nodded, letting me go. I hurried into the shower and brushed my teeth and washed my face, combing my hair like an idiot. I ran back to his closet and went to the shelf with my clothes. I put on a pair of black skinnies and a grey tshirt, pulling my hair up into a messy bun. I didnt bother with make up or anything, only a little deodorant and perfume and I was out. I ran downstairs where they were all waiting for me, dressed and ready to go.

“Lets go,” I said, grinning. They all grinned back, the happiness clear in their eyes. Finally, Uncle John was awake. I couldn't to see his eyes again and his smile on that aging face. I took my fathers hand and smiled at him as we walked to the cars. “How are you?” It felt like I hadnt talked to him for real in weeks. Probably hadn't either.

“Oh, I'm good. I just hope he feels alright. How are you, my beautiful daugther? Is everything alright?”

“Everything's fine with me. It's you I'm thinking about. I feel like I never talk to you anymore because of all that's happening. I suck.”

My father grinned, shaking his head.

“No, you don't. It's normal when things like these happen. We all have a lot on our minds. Don't feel bad, I love you just as much as I always have whether we talk or not.”

“Love you, too,” I said, grinning as we parted. He went to his car and Jacob joined him and Mase, Noah, the twins, Caleb and Thresh and I went to the van. I talked to Caleb and Thresh as we got in, both of them laughing at their jokes. Uncle John had woken up only half an hour ago and this family was already back to their normal selves. How could one not be happy?

The ride to the hospital had been good. Really good. The athmosphere was over the top and I could practically feel everyone's happiness and excitement. Well, literally meaning mostly Noah, since we were mates. But his nerves were just as big. I wanted to take it all on me and just let him enjoy this instead of freaking out.

Walking to Uncle John's room after Mason had talked to the receptionist, I squeezed Noah's hand and smiled at him. His eyes were lost in thoughts. We all debated whether we should go in all together or one on one but after a while, we decided to go all together.

We walked in and as soon as I saw Uncle John sitting up, his eyes open and landing on all of us with joy, my heart was beating happily. I had missed this man so much, I can't even imagine how his own children felt. We all hugged him one by one, easy and carefully, and then stood and grinned at him.

“You look just the same, Uncle J,” I joked, winking.

“No gray hair?” he asked in mock surprise. I grinned.

“You look tired, dad,” Mason said, his voice low but a smile on his lips. “How are you feeling today?”

“Oh I feel just fine. Tired, like you said, but just fine. I can't wait until I can go home again, I've been hearing your voices each time you visited and it made me even more eager to get back. I guess it worked.” He grinned.

“Heck yeah it worked,” I agreed, making them laugh.

We had all gotten chairs into the room for everyone to sit on and were spread out, talking and laughing. My father was currently talking to Uncle John alone and we all respected that and didn't listen to their conversation. Noah seemed all lost in thoughts but he was playing well. I knew he had things he needed to get off his chest to his father once they were alone.

I could feel Uncle John's eyes on me all the time, even though he was talking to my father. It was either because he still hadn't gotten used to me and Noah being mates or it was because my father told him about my lovely gift to attract trouble.

“So, how are you feeling?” I asked Noah, turning to face him. I grinned; he was so cute when he was lost.

“Good,” he answered. “I think the nervosity is starting to go away. I'm going to talk to him later.”

“Is the old tough Noah coming back?” I teased, laughing at his face. “Sorry.”

He sighed with a smile, shaking his head at me. He leaned closer for a kiss but I put my finger right on his lips, laughing at the shocked face he made.

“Uh-uh, we're in a small room filled with our families. No making out.”

“You're such an annoying mate,” he muttered. I smirked.

“Yes but I'm your annoying mate.”

He smirked evilly, pulling me closer.

“You got that right,” he whispered huskily, giving me a hard kiss before I could stop him. I laughed against his mouth, pulling back. Sometimes, Noah could be so sexy and so damn funny at the same time. He groaned as I pulled away, glaring at me. “Fine.”

“Samantha,” Uncle John called, snapping me out of whatever I was in with Noah. I nodded as I got up from my chair, blushing a little at the thought that they had seen us, and walked over to him. My father gave me a smile and walked back to the guys. I sat down on his chair.

“How are you feeling?” I asked Uncle John with a small smile. He grinned.

“Awesome.”

I laughed, shaking my head at him with amusement. This guy got older and older but his humor never stopped.

“I just wanted to ask you some questions about everything,” he said, a little lower this time. I realized that this was a private conversation, like the one he had just had with my father, and I leaned in slightly with a nod. He continued. “First of all, how's everything with you and Noah? What happened after?”

He gave me a small grin which, I realized, meant that he was also talking about the day when I had come here and spilled all my thoughts and emotions, the same day Noah and I were ignoring each other because of that bet. Oh this is just great. I wanted to laugh at how awkward I had been. Instead, I nodded with a smile.

“It's all good. He had been looking for me, since I'm not allowed to be by myself outside the house,” I rolled my eyes and Uncle John chuckled, “because of all the trouble I'm in. But yeah, um, we made up and now we're good.”

“That's good. I'm glad. Is he treating you well?” His eyes were serious and worried now and I sighed at how sad it was that he hadn't been here to see his son change into a much better person.

“Uncle John, he's treating everyone well. I mean, you should see him. You will see him. He's different.”

“Of course he is, he found his mate and she's none other than you.” He smiled. I only smiled back, not knowing what else to say. “Anyways, Liz Warren huh?”

I snorted. “Yeah. There's one you never thought would be on the bad side.”

“You can say that again. I feel like choking her.”

I laughed. “No, no one's going to choke her but me. I don't want any of you involved. You can plan and you can make decisions but nothing else.”

“Saman-”

“Uncle John, no. If you're going in, any of you, then I'd rather just give myself willingly.”

His eyes widened slightly but he nodded, knowing he couldn't argue with me anymore. I smirked inside. Another battle won.

I hope.
