Chapter 23
Maybe he could keep this secret? He'd probably kill me, too, though. He killed the other werewolf easily by snapping his neck and then hurried over to me with angry eyes. I smiled innocently but coming out on a werewolf, it probably just looked hideous. I tried not to laugh at that. He gave a quick nod to the side with his head, clearly telling me to get away from here but I just shook my head. I was already in here, why not continue? After all, that fight had been kind of fun! It was like an adrenaline kick. Until you got killed, of course, but I would never let myself get that far. I was good at fighting, even if I lost control sometime.
Jacob growled at me and I growled back, not giving in. I gave him one last glare before turning and walking straight into the war. A wolf from the other pack immediately attacked me from the side, a surprised yelp escaping my lips. That was fast. I immediately started lounging for him with my canines, biting him anywhere I could.
I did that with at least five wolves but I'm not saying I didn't get hurt. My right leg was badly hurt, maybe even broken. My ribs hurt and my left ear was slightly bitten. I was so tired but the adrenaline kept me going. Jacob just kept coming to me, saving me whenever I needed it and I was thankful, of course, but I wanted to try to win a fight on my own for once.
Just as I looked for another enemy, one attacked me, crashing into my hurt ribs hard. I cried out in pain and then remembered that I had to be careful so that I wouldn't be heard; I couldn't risk someone from my pack knowing I was here, especially Noah and my father.
I felt a sudden wave pain, coming from my arm, and I realized that the wolf had bitten my arm. Hard. I gave my all to keep my mouth shut. I knew that even if I let a small yelp come out, I would scream louder than anything. I felt tears building in my eyes and as all of this pain happened, the wolf was still on top of me, I wasn't really fighting back and then the wolf was gone. I knew that it wasn't Jacob who had helped me and I knew I was in trouble, so I shut my mouth and ran away, struggling to run fast with my bitten arm.
I ran and ran and ran, the same way I came from, trying to get as far away as I could. I mind-linked Arianna to follow my scent since I had just passed her. It was Mason that had helped me this time and that meant no good. He was no better than Noah, except he did it in a brotherly way. He was going to tell Noah about this, no doubt, and I couldn't risk it.
I felt Arianna's presence behind me and I stopped. This was far enough. I had to rest my arm a little. Arianna ran up to me and immediatelty shifted. She had the bag with clothes and put on pair of shorts and a tee quickly as she ran over to me.
âShift!â she commanded. I obeyed and let her help me put on clothes. She examined my arm as I struggled to not scream in pain. âIt's pretty deep but nothing we can't fix.â
âShit,â I breathed. âI screwed up. Mason knows, Jacob, too. Noah probably already knows by now as well.â
âThey won't look nor find us, trust me. They're busy fighting.â Arianna blinked. âWell, no. Noah will probably look. But not find. I'm fixing this and we're off again.â
I nodded.
It took her ten minutes to clean the wound as good as she could with the band aid we had and then she wrapped it up in a bandage. It hurt but I wasn't going to let it stop me. I had to get out of here, whether it hurt or not. Noah wasn't going to find me. He could yell at me later.
âLet's go,â I said. Arianna nodded. We took off our clothes, packed them back in the bag and shifted. Arianna grabbed the bag with her mouth and we were off, running as fast as we could.
It was pitch black outside a few hours later and Arianna and I were in our human forms, dressed and resting against a huge tree. We were both tired and the only thing we had eaten was two small pieces of bread that Arianna was smart enough to bring. I hadn't even thought about food when I left.
The sky was black, the forest was black and we were surrounded by silence. Only a few birds could be heard a few miles away with our werewolf hearing, nothing else. It was a different silence than back home. This one was... unsafe, strange, unfamiliar, mysterious, even scary in a way.
âDo you think they're still fighting?â Arianna asked quietly, still nibbling on a piece of bread. I shrugged.
âI'm not sure. Maybe, maybe not. I've shut everyone out of mind-link. Trust me, if I would listen to them, I'd go out of my mind and they'd find me faster.â
Arianna nodded.
Time was passing really slowly and I was missing Noah. I cringed when I knew how mad he was and how mad he would be when he would find me. I wanted to hug and kiss him but he would probably yell at me and be mad at me for a while. Well, it was my fault and my choice, so.
I woke up, cold and with a dry mouth. I blinked a few times before really seeing where I was. And it was not the same place that I had been last time. With Arianna. She wasn't here. I was in a shed. Alone.
I flew up from my lying position, my brain registering what I had just realized. I was alone, without Arianna, in a place where I really shouldn't be. I could feel that this was a bad situation and I prayed that Arianna had just taken me somewhere indoors and was out looking for... something.
But no, I knew it wasn't like that. Shit!
I got up, looking around the empty small shed. No one here? They kidnap me but they leave me here alone? Really, I'd laugh if I wasn't so concentrated on getting out of here.
I tiptoed to the door, poked my head out and looked to both sides. Empty. What the hell? Suddenly, the door slammed shut, right in my face, hitting my forehead and my nose hard before I managed to back off. I rubbed my nose but in surprise, I stared, shocked. What did just happen? The windows slammed shut in union right after that, making loud noise.
Okay, so it wasn't really empty then. Someone was here and knew I had tried to get out. How typical. I went to the back of the shed, standing with my back against the wall behind me. What was going on? Where was I? And more important, where was Arianna?
I turned on my mind-link, preparing for Noah and everyone else yelling at me. But I waited and waited, getting only silence. I didn't want to believe that this place blocked my mind-link, but I had to assume that, that was the case. Damn it!!
What was I going to do now?
I looked around, anxious. This couldn't be good. This wasn't good. They were going to kill me. How did I always manage to get in trouble? If someone had an answer to that, I'd kiss their feet. Or maybe not.
âWell, well, well...â
My eyes snapped to the front door, where a middle aged man stood now. I was already glaring at him. Tall, blond, light-eyed and in good shape for his age.
âSo this is the famous Samantha Riley...?â he continued, pacing around while looking at me with big blue eyes. Who was he? From the pack that attacked us? Was this their work, trying to hold me hostage? Or was he just a random wolf kidnapping me? He could be anything and anyone; after all, I was a trouble magnet.
âThat's my name. What's yours?â I asked, an edge to my voice. I had to try not to get on his bad side right away, even though that would probably be impossible being me.
The man laughed.
âMy name is not important right now, Ms. Riley.â
âOh? What is, then?â I glared hard at him.
âTaking you to a safe place.â He was serious, no trace of any emotion on his serious blank face. What the hell?
I snorted. âYeah right. Safe meaning torture and place meaning in a freaking cell or something in the middle of nowhere, right?â
The man only smiled a small smile that was hard to tell if it was evil or sincere. I only continued glaring, not taking my chances. He kidnapped me for Christ's sake, how on earth could he be any good?
As I thought this, he stepped out from the shed and after two seconds, four guys marched in. Tall, well built and serious ass faces, they came towards me, two taking each of my arms and the other two placing themselves in front and behind me, as if guarding me from something.
I, unusually shocked, just stayed quiet and followed them, wondering what on earth got me here. All the guards looked young, maybe twenty to twenty five. They were all good looking too, might I add. It made me feel a little better, having to walk in the middle of them but it still wasn't fun. The middleaged man from before was nowhere to be seen and we were walking through the woods.
âWait!â I said, stopping. The four guys stopped with me and just stared at me, waiting. âWhat happened to Arianna?â
They all continued to stare at me, saying nothing. I glared at them. âHello? Are you people deaf? Or are you not allowed to speak?â
They exchanged glances quickly and the one in front of me said, âShe's safe.â
âSafe?â I stared at him. âSafe how, safe where?!â
He gave me one last look that said that he couldn't and wouldn't say no more, so I shut up and followed them. We continued walking through the empty quiet woods and finally reached a huge Hummer limousine. I tried not to gawk.
I was kidnapped and I got to sit in a limo? Yes please. I grinned at the four guys.
âTell your old man to kidnap me more often, I like the service.â
They chuckled, all four of them and I went inside. When they were shutting the door I frowned, wondering why they weren't coming. But I didn't care. I just wanted to see Arianna and get out of here, end of story. Limo or not, I was kidnapped and I did not feel like being that right now.
The car â or should I say limo? I am loving the inside â started moving and I prayed that I would find a way out. And if this was a kidnapping, so far it was pretty unusually good. Young good-looking guards that were relaxed, a limo, what next? But I didn't expect anything more. The real stuff would probably start when we arrived at the âsafe place.â
I had to get to Noah some way. Wait. I'm outside the shed. Maybe it's not blocked anymore! Being alone back here was necessary, I had to concentrate.
Noah. Noah, Noah, Noah. Noaaaaah.
Fuck.
Noah, you idiot. Answer me right now!
SAMANTHA!!!!
Oh shit. Okay, mental preparation NOT on. That hurt my head.
Where the fuck are you, Samantha?!
Can we chill with the words? Jeez.
Are you serious?! First you come and fight and risk your fucking life and then you run off and don't contact me all night?! How can you be so fucking stupid? I was and I still am so fucking worried that I-
Do we need anger management here?! Breathe, wolf.
Am I mean if I was laughing through the entire conversation? He was so overreacting. Right? Well, this was funny, overreacting or not.
Samantha...
I could hear him take a deep long breath and that only made me laugh more.
First of all, stop fucking laughing at me. And second of all, don't ever do this again. Now where are you?
Well, hate to break it to you, but I'm kidnapped. In a limo, actually. It's really nice in here, I've never been in a limo. Can you imagine a kidnapping in a limo? It's freaking amazing. If only Ari was here. But she's unfortunately locked up somewhere in a âsafe placeâ if you know what I mean, which is where they are taking me now. So... any questions?
No answer. Okay, fine. I wanted to tell him like a normal person would but I just couldn't. Even in this situation, I couldn't have everything so serious. I'd only realize that I was probably not going anywhere and then I'd be depressed all day. No thanks, I'd rather stay alert and creative while finding my way out of here.
Noah?
Can you please stop joking around? He whispered. I'm trying so hard and I'm worried out of my mind. You can't even be serious this one time and understand that not everything is a joke.
Um... Noah. I respect this deep serious talk but I realize that you haven't quite understood. Well, don't panic but... I am kidnapped. And I am in a limo. And Arianna is locked up in a-
YOU'RE KIDNAPPED?! WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU?! TELL ME RIGHT NOW AND I'LL BE THERE IN FIVE MINUTES, I AM GOING TO KILL EVERYONE INVOLVED IN THIS!!
My rescuer to the rescue. How sweet.
Okay, Sam, be serious. You're kidnapped!! Act like your kidnapped, for Hagrid's sake! God!
Noah, relax!! Just listen. I don't know where I am but as soon as I find out, I'll tell you. Don't panic, don't tell anyone. I'll get back to you soon, okay?
Samantha, no! You have to stay in touch all the time. I can't believe I left you there, I'm so stupid and irresponsible-
Noah, shut up. You're being stupid now. I did all of this and it's okay. Better my fault than someone else's, right? I'll get back to you, the car has stopped.
Sam-
Don't panic, Noah. Love you.
I turned off mind-link after that, I couldn't have Noah in my head while concentrating on where I was and how to get out. The car stopped and the door opened for me. I stepped out of the car, surrounded by the same guards again. I followed them in to two storey building in the middle of nowhere and in to an elevator.
How the hell was I supposed to know where this was located? It was seriously in the middle of nowhere.
The elevator stopped at 2 and the doors opened, revealing a hallway of doors. I followed the guards out and passed a few doors before stopping in front of one. Was it here they were locking me up? Was Arianna here somewhere?
The guy in front of me â pretty much the leader â pulled out a key from his pocket and pushed it in the doorknob. Turning the key, he pulled it out and pushed the door open.
My heart dropped.
