What's That Supposed To Mean? - Werewolf Romance

Chapter 14

It’s safe to say that Arianna freaked out two days ago when I told her what happened between me and Noah after we left their house. She started lecturing me about control and maturity and that I should’ve known better. You know what she did after? She squealed and said that this all was so exciting. Yes, so that lecture meant nothing, it was just her way of making sure she was still my best friend, which I loved her for of course. I couldn’t keep myself from laughing at her reactions, though.

Now it was a calm and windy Sunday. I had taken a shower, washed my hair and done everything to feel nice and fresh this relaxing day. My dad had told me at breakfast that Warren and his little pack were coming today to visit us and meet everyone before joining. We were going to have a barbeque on the front yard at four for the newcomers. He had told me that it was Warren and three girls and five boys. So nine people were joining our pack. It was good; the more the better.

I had also found out that there was going to be another meeting tomorrow night, this time special for me and Noah. They were going to tell us when our trainings for our Alpha positions were starting and information like that. I kind of looked forward to the trainings, to fight and learn how to kick ass even better. Because I was good. I could fight and I could really kick ass; I had loved it since I was little. I was a trouble making tomboy back then, though, and now I was just a girl who still loved fighting.

Tyler and his sister and his mom were back; they had come late last night with two heavy bags of souvenirs and things they’d bought. It was awkward between the two of us but I had at least apologized for that night. He said, “It’s fine, don’t worry about it” and left to his room. I guess that one was over, not that there had been anything. But he had the right to be mad so I didn’t say anything. Jennifer acted the same as before so there were no hard feelings there.

Now, the situation with Noah… I hadn’t seen him these two days, after our little incident, and I knew that today I would since we all had to be here to meet the newcomers. I wasn’t nervous or annoyed or confused; I felt good, normal. I didn’t care. If he would come, he would come. He just had to show me if he went back to ignoring me or if he acknowledged what had happened. That way I’d know how he was going to take everything.

I had, of course, thought about it the whole weekend but at least I had tried hard not to. I just couldn’t imagine myself as that wild girl who kissed guys suddenly like that. I couldn’t believe the fact that I had ignored my warnings in my head which I never ever did. But it had happened and I couldn’t change that and I was okay with it. We had both obviously liked it and we both knew something was going on so I wasn’t the only one confused about it all.

It was two thirty already and the sky was a bit grey but not depressing grey. I looked out through the window, watching as the wind moved the trees beautifully. I put on a pair of black skinny jeans, a white shirt and pulled my burgundy cardigan over before putting my shoes on. I put my hair up in a messy but nice bun, letting a few strands of hair hang loose. I liked it this way, much more comfy.

I applied just a little bit of mascara and a little bit of blush and went out to the front yard where the guys were setting up everything. Mason was moving around the grill to a good place, Thresh and Theo and Leo were bringing chairs from the back yards to add to the ones on the front yard, placing them around the tables. Jacob and Caleb and Joseph had gone to the grocery shop to get everything we needed for this evening.

“Hey guys,” I said as I walked out, pulling my cardigan together and close to me. It was quite windy but it was nice. Sometimes wind was good when everyday was hot and warm.

“Hey, Sam!”

“Do you guys need help with anything?” I asked, looking around for something to do. I wanted to help around and prepare, too. “Just give me something to do and I’ll do it.”

“Well, you can bring out the rest of the things for the grill. You know that small table I always have on the side to put everything on,” Mason said. “It’s in the house, in the back.”

I nodded and went in, going straight to the back. I glanced up the stairs as I passed, wondering if Noah was home. It was weird how I didn’t care that much anymore. Well, don’t get me wrong, of course I cared. I just decided to not let anything Noah does or says affect me because I already had enough in my head to stress about and I didn’t need his weird mood swings around me. Of course I’d be glad if he would choose to acknowledge it, but if he didn’t, he didn’t. I’d try not to be surprised if he didn’t but since we both liked it so much and he had been so serious about a “we” after our kiss, I would probably be surprised anyways.

But he was smart; he always knew what he was doing and what consequences it had and he just chose if he wanted to deal with it or not. I wanted to talk to Mason about this and maybe Willa but I still wasn’t sure. Mates. I was still not sure if that was the answer to all this but it was the most possible one.

It’s funny. When I look at Willa, Arianna, Mason and Max who are one of those people who’ve found their mates, they immediately accepted them and were immediately in love and all that. Here I was with Noah, refusing to accept the fact that we could be mates. We were walking around, flirting instead of getting together already to find out the answer. I guess we both had a hard time believing it and actually be open for that possibility. But if we were mates, we were. We’d figure everything out anyways because mates couldn’t just not be mates and never be together while still alive. Well, they could but I had heard that it was pretty impossible unless there was death involved, or something else maybe, I didn’t know.

I found the table Mason asked for and grabbed it. I went back out again and as I passed the kitchen, my brain registered that Noah was there but I didn’t actually get it until I was already out the door. The thought of him there made me a little giddy, anyways, now that we’d actually been alone in the house without knowing it. I guess our… kiss – I still couldn’t believe that we had been that wild – still made me a little unsure and nervous to be alone with Noah. Not nervous in “butterflies in my stomach” kind of way but nervous as in “what do I do now?” way. The more confused nervous.

“Here it is,” I said as I walked to Mason. I put down the table by the grill which he had put a few feet in front of the house.

“Thanks. I figured that being closer to the house is better if I need to get anything. Besides, I liked standing on the side when doing this.” He grinned. “Was Noah in there?”

“I think so,” I said. “I think I saw him in the kitchen.”

I walked away as he called his name to come out. I walked over to Jacob. He grinned when he saw me, carrying two plastic chairs each in both hands. I walked with him over to the table he put them around.

“What’s up?” he asked. “Where’s Arianna?”

I followed him to the back of the house and helped him get more chairs.

“She’s in town with her mom and Willa, I think. They’ll be back soon.” I put down the chairs by the table, ignoring the fact that I just saw Noah come out of the house. I didn’t look at him because I didn’t want to see his reaction, not yet. I’ll admit I was a little bit afraid that he went back to ignoring me if we actually were mates because that wouldn’t result in any good. I’d just have to wait for the barbeque at four instead.

“What are you thinking about now, thinky stinky,” Jacob said. I chuckled at his “thinky stinky.”

“That’s new. I never heard that one,” I said, grinning.

“I know, I invented it just now.”

“Obviously. It’s too bad for anyone else to have invented it,” I joked.

“Well, obviously, you’re too stupid to think it’s cool. You are simply not one of the cool guys, dork.” He grinned.

“That made no sense and I’m not stupid,” I said, laughing as I punched him on the arm. He dropped the chairs he held, groaning.

“Woman!” he said loudly. “You’re a werewolf, remember?”

I burst out laughing, clutching my stomach. This guy weighed so much more than me and I had actually managed to hurt him with a punch in the arm.

“So big but so weak,” I said as I laughed. “Ah, Jacob. You’re such a dog.”

“Oh the irony!” he said dramatically, grinning as he went to get more chairs and I went back home. I chuckled at him, shaking my head. I was never bored when with Jacob.

“Samantha?” my dad called from the kitchen. I walked in, smiling.

“Yes, dear father?”  I said in a serious voice, changing my accent.

“Trying out new things?” he asked with a grin.

“You can never be British enough,” I said in a British accent. “I’m open to all things.”

He chuckled and nodded.

“Good to know. Anyways, it’s three thirty in a couple of minutes and I’m going to go and pick Warren and his pack up, just so you know. So I’ll leave you in charge to make sure that everything is ready before four o’clock. Can you handle that?”

“Oh dadster, I can handle everything.” I wiggled my eyebrows.

“I’m happy you’re in a good mood today,” he laughed as he left. I went back out, waving as he drove out from our territory/property.

“Okay, guys, listen up!” I called. Noah wasn’t there I noted quickly as I clapped my hands once. “My dad went to pick the newbees up and wants everything ready before four o’clock so make sure you use those muscles! No slowmo’s in this place, you got me?”

“Everyone, let’s slow mo,” Jacob called with a grin. Mason and the twins laughed.

“Let’s not,” I growled. Caleb laughed at me and Thresh pushed Jacob playfully aside as Jacob stared at me wide-eyed.

“Didn’t know Samantha Banantha could growl,” Jacob said teasingly. I burst out laughing, even harder this time, and so did the rest of the Black’s. Jacob just stood there and glared at us, clearly knowing why we were laughing.

“It’s Anna Banana, you stupid dog,” Leo said between laughter. “Oh my God, I can’t believe I have a brother stupid as you!”

“Get a brain,” Theo added, laughing. Jacob threw a football that was near him at them and instead of hitting one of the twins, it hit Mason. Mason stopped laughing and growled, but I continued laughing. I was almost lying down, laughing so hard that I couldn’t breathe. The look on Mason’s face was just priceless.

“I… can’t… breathe,” I said between laughter.

“Oops, sorry,” Jacob said to Mason, grinning.

“Get back to work, freak,” Mason said but he chuckled so no hard feelings.

Thirty minutes later, we were finished with everything. We hadn’t done anything special but we had put everything on its place and we were now all outside, both packs. Well two packs that were becoming one soon so the entire pack then.

Arianna, Jacob and I were sitting on my front porch, waiting for the arrival. Mason’s mate had come and they were sitting and cuddling on the Black’s front porch. As I looked at them, Noah stepped through the front door. His eyes landed immediately on me and when I saw that small side smile, my heart thumped and I smiled that same smile back, looking away. I was glad that he had chosen not to ignore me.

My dad’s car drove in and we all stood up, ready to meet them. I wanted so badly to see them all and see what they looked like. The car stopped, the engine shut down and out they came. First me dad and then they followed. It was very safe to say that they all looked attractive and, not to brag, werewolves mostly did because of that werewolf gene.

Warren and three girls and five guys. Warren was the same age as my dad it looked like but he looked like a pleasant and nice man. The first girl of the three had fiery red hair that looked like serious flames and a beautiful face, just like the rest. They all looked like they were our age which was even better; we’d get new young people and they’d get friends easier since we were all pretty social. The second girl had beautiful blonde hair and pale skin, like a Barbie doll. As I looked at her, I glanced at Noah. He probably laid his eyes on that one. Let’s not ask how I feel about that because I don’t have an answer.

The third and last girl was a cute blackhead, a bit shorter than the rest but very beautiful. She had a beautiful skintone, almost like the Black’s. She’d fit in as their sister.

Now the guys, five of them and they were all the same height and like I said, good looking. Two of them had light hair, one had a bit of a sandy golden color and the other had a normal blonde like the second girl. One had brown eyes and the other had grey eyes, I noted as they were coming closer. I quickly saw that the red haired girl had green, the blonde girl had dark blue and the black haired girl brown. The three other guys had darker hair; one had black and two had brown. The black haired one had grey eyes, the first brown haired had green and the other brown haired had brown. The black haired one caught my eye the most because he kind of stood out.

His eyes caught mine as well and he smiled. I smiled back as my father started introducing them to everyone. They all stood in a row and he begun.

“Everyone! This is Warren, right here. He and these eight young people have been a pack for a while now after that their previous pack had been hunted down. They were the only ones to survive and found each other throughout the years. This is Ramona, Stephanie and Alyssa and these young men here are Drew, Brian, Michael, Chad and Ronny. I want you all to make them feel very welcome since these are the people that will join our pack after tonight!” My dad looked around and smiled. “We will move them to one of the houses here on the field very soon these weeks and sometime after that, the new Alpha’s will take over. Enjoy the evening everyone!”

I excused myself from Jake and Arianna and walked over to my dad when he motioned for me to come. He did the same to Noah who came over with Uncle John. Uncle John met everyone, greeting and shaking their hands. They already knew my dad and Uncle J anyways so now my dad started to introduce me and Noah.

“Guys, this is my daughter Samantha and John’s son Noah here.”

We all exchanged “hi’s” and “hello’s.” The black haired guy, Michael, smiled longer at me than the others, giving me some sort of message with his eyes. Was he flirting?

“They are the ones who will take over the positions as Alpha’s in not so long. I don’t want you to have any worries because of their young age; they will be trained and informed about everything before getting their new positions.”

“They are very responsible as well,” Uncle John added, glancing at Noah with a meaning behind the look. Noah glanced down quickly, getting the message loud and clear. “Now, please enjoy this barbeque. Any questions, come to us.”

“Thank you,” Warren said with a kind smile. “Very nice to meet you.”

“Very nice to meet you,” I said back with a smile and turned with Noah to go as our fathers led the newcomers to the crowd.

“So that went… well,” I said as we walked away from them.

“Did you see my dad?” Noah said, chuckling. “Very discreet of him.”

“Ah, he just wants the best for you.”

Noah looked at me, grinning. It felt so weird being friendly with him since we’d grown up fighting and arguing and throwing each other glares ‘til today. Well, maybe not friendly but we were talking and smiling at each other like normal people, even if it was just for a few seconds..

“I’ll see you later,” he said. I nodded and he walked away. Thresh came up to me.

“You guys good now?” he asked, shocked. “If you say yes I might faint.”

I laughed. “I don’t know. Maybe. Go get something to eat, handsome.” I pushed him playfully away and he grinned as he watched me go. Even Thresh had noticed this, but who wouldn’t? Me and Noah, talking calmly, would be surprising and shocking for everyone here.
