2// ~Preparations~
Gentle Hearts (gxg)(poly)
My eyes fluttered open slowly, sleep fading quickly, sun shining in through the window causing the entire room to bask in the orange glow.
I pulled back the comforters that had kept me warm and toasty all night and swung my legs over the edge of the bed, thinking about the day ahead of me.
Until suddenly I remembered what my plan for the day was... to go to the store to get any ingredients needed for the snickerdoodles, all - by - my - self, yes!
I jumped out of bed as fast as I could, ignoring the sudden chill that coated my skin, and stood in front of my clothes, contemplating what I was going to where for the day. This was a big deal, it needed to be perfect.
After much contemplating and a lot of chin tapping, I decided on a white skirt paired with my super cute pink sweater that kept me cozy on top of my white tank top, that had a little bow on the top, of course.
All dressed, I went to the bathroom to brush my teeth and stuff. Probably should have done that before I got dressed so I didn't get toothpaste on my clothes but I couldn't help it, I just got to excited okay, sue me. Just kidding, please don't, I don't think that would be fun. Anyways I'll just have to be extra careful.
Hair brushed, teeth brushed, and mascara applied, I made my way down the stairs to see if Grammy had woken up. Which she probably had. I wake up pretty early but, that woman wakes up even earlier than me. I think she likes to have peace and quiet with her coffee in the mornings and that's why.
Bleh, coffee. I don't like it, never have, and probably never will. Sometimes I wish I liked it. I think it would be cool to wake up and have a nice warm cup of coffee and watch the sun rise, but, for now, I'm good with my hot chocolate.
"Good morning Grammy," I pretty loosely exclaimed, as I made my way down the stairs.
She came into view and I watched as her cheeks rose, and she flashed her teeth at me with a cheery disposition. "Good morning, how did you sleep?"
"Like a baby," I chuckled as I observed the cup of coffee in her hands. So I was right. "I was thinking I could go to the store after lunch, that way we can make them when I get home, then have dinner while they cool off a little, and then we can eat them after dinner for dessert, and we can watch a movie! Does that sound good?"
"Sounds perfect, need me to write you a list of what we need?"
"Oh, no that's okay, I can just look in the book and see what we need and then check the fridge and pantry, but thanks Grammy!"
"Of course," she replied as she placed her empty coffee cup upside down in the sink.
I grabbed my basket off the counter and placed two slices of bread inside, heading towards the already open back door off the kitchen. "I'm going to go see the ducks in the meantime Grammy, be back in a little bit."
"You need to eat your breakfast first kid, keep you strong, put some meat on those bones."
"I will when I get back, I promise," I shouted back, my feet still moving closer and closer to the cobblestone path in the woods, "love you."
I knew she wouldn't be mad at me, I usually listened pretty well. Just sometimes I really needed to do what I needed to do, you know? Plus, I would eat after I got back, that wasn't a lie. I never broke a promise. It's not nice to people and it can make you feel bad inside if you do.
As I reached the end of the path, I reached into basket, pulling out the bread and breaking it into small pieces and sprinkling it around my feet, waiting for the ducks to waddle up.
Just as I finish, they start to appear, surrounding me, nibbling on the bread, devouring almost all of it in almost seconds.
I giggle as one rubs up against my feet, tickling me.
It waddles away and I sit in down in the grass, staring out to the sky, getting lost in my thoughts. My thoughts tend to get a little weird sometimes, not like weird weird just random I would say, I'm not sure why.
Like right now I was thinking about that fact that I've seen a greater surface area of the moon than I have the earth yet I live here. Weird right?
I pull myself from my thoughts and look down at my watch, realizing an hour had passed and I needed to get back and eat something before I could go to the store and get the ingredients I needed.
I slowly stood up, stretching my arms up to the sky to release the tension in my back. Bending down I pick up the basket and start to make my way back to the house, listening to the birds chat back and forth with one another and I walk.
Once I reach the house I place the basket onto the counter and make myself some eggs to eat before I begin my shopping adventure! I cannot wait. I wonder if people will think my outfit is cute or if anyone will smile and wave at me and then I can do it back!
I scoop the eggs onto my plate, and cut up an apple to go along with it, placing it next to my eggs, but not touching them, cause that would be a little yucky.
Sitting down at the counter I eat my breakfast, and lunch I guess too, and watch the tv that I can view in the living room from the kitchen.
Grammy is watching a little bit of a boring show if I do say so myself, but it's okay. It keeps me entertained at least!
I finish up as fast as I can, bring my plate over to the sink, wash my dishes, and I'm ready to go!
I walk into the living room to say bye to Grammy first though.
"Bye Grammy, I'm ganna go to the store now so that we can bake our cookies later." I say leaning over to give her a hug. "Before you say anything, I know, I'll go right there and come right back, promise." I hold out my pinky.
She smiles up at me from her spot on the couch, "ok honey, be safe. I can't wait to make those cookies with you."
"Me neither," I squeal a little, "bye love you." Grabbing my little wallet with money in it off of the front table.
"Love you too."
I cannot wait for this adventure!
