Chapter 625
Lord Protector Novel
Zeke burst into a chuckle. âYou mentioned that heâs out on a mission in Riverdale District. Why is he here in Oakheart City then?â
âNonsense! He must have completed the emergency mission in Riverdale before coming here for another mission.â Mance retorted.
Zeke noted, âBut Riverdale is in the West, and General North came here from the East.â
Mance Raider was rendered speechless.
âHmph! How would I be clear on the emergency mission that he was on?â
âMaybe the trip to Riverdale District was just a coverup to confuse our enemy?â
Zeke wanted to speak when Mance Raider cut him off.
âI know you guys still doubt me even after my explanation.â
âSo, Iâll invite General North to my companyâs opening ceremony seven days later.â
âDidnât you guys want to have a meal together with him? Now Iâll give a chance to those who drink the most today to sit at the same table as General North at the opening ceremony banquet.â
They found Manceâs offer extraordinarily appealing.
Nobody would want to miss the chance to sit at the same table as General North and Mance Raider.
The crowd was abuzz with excitement, and Zeke Williams was completely disregarded.
Mance looked apologetically at Nancy Hinton. âNancy, Iâm sorry for today.â
âI did not want to be selfish and cause a delay to General Northâs tight schedule for my own personal gains.â
âWhat about if I arrange for you to dine at the same table as General North himself a week later?â
Nancy Hinton was psyched at the prospect. âThank you, Mance! Iâll be on my best behavior on that day.â
The crowd was in an uproar. âMance, youâre favoring gals over pals!â
âWe could only get the chance if we drink a lot tonight, but Ms. Hinton here does not even need to take a single sip of alcohol to enjoy the same privilege!â
âThatâs true. You have to be fair to us!â
âRight, itâs already the 21st century. Donât you know anything about gender equality?â
Mance found himself to be in a difficult position. âUmm...â
Nancy spoke on behalf of Mance, âGentlemen, I definitely could not compete against you guys when it comes to drinking. What about this? Iâll drink three glasses in one go as my way of thanking you guys for the precious chance to dine with General North?â
The crowd chimed, âSure! If you could honor your words and drink three glasses in one go, we would give Mance due respect, and you could have your chance.â
Zeke stopped Nancy when she was about the chug the liquor down her throat. âNancy, you shouldnât drink this.â
âSomeone could be trying to take advantage of you when youâre drunk.â
Nancy was enraged, âZeke Williams, enough!â
âWhat do you take Mance for? A perverted freak whose brain is filled with filthy thoughts like you?â
âA wicked person always thinks wicked of others!â
Mance was incensed at Zekeâs warning as well. âHey, Williams, you really take me for a fool, huh? How many times have you tried to smear my name?â
âDo you wish for me to file a case of defamation against you?â
The crowd then started to crusade against Zeke.
âThis guy is obviously an attention seeker.â
âHe thinks that all men are same as he, unable to think straight just at the sight of women!â
âBesides, Nancy was only going to have three glasses. How drunk could she get from it?â
âMance, you really shouldnât have invited Williams here.â
Nancy finished the glass in her hand in one go in an attempt to agitate Zeke Williams.
When she was about to chug down the second glass, she was stopped by Mance. âNancy, one glass is enough. I donât want others to say that Iâm harboring any indecent thoughts about you.â
Nancy glared at Zeke. âYou heard it. Mance only asked me to drink just one glass.â
âEven a child wouldnât get drunk from this amount of alcohol.â
Zeke became the target of the crowd all of a sudden as everybody chastised him.
Lacey Hinton could not bring herself to stay any longer.
