Chapter 546
Lord Protector Novel
Jeffrey knew something was off when he saw the director hesitated.
He then turned to Zeke and said courteously, âYoung man, I will take your feedback into consideration seriously. I will form an investigation team as soon as possible. If youâre telling the truth, Iâll definitely make a move against this hospital.â
The onlookers heaved a sigh of relief because it seemed as though Jeffrey wasnât going to pick on Zeke.
This young man is so lucky to run into such a friendly mayor.
Zeke nodded and advised Jeffrey, âMm. Itâs best for you to form an investigation team within seven days.â
Jeffrey got curious upon hearing that and he asked, âWhy does it have to be within seven days?â
âItâs simple. Because youâll die after seven days,â replied Zeke nonchalantly.
What the heck!
The onlookers who felt a sense of relief got worked up once again.
Mr. Middleton is kind enough to let him off the hook. I canât believe heâs trying to push his luck once again. How dare he curse Mr. Middleton? Does he really have a death wish?
Jeffrey finally lost his cool and replied indifferently, âYoung man, are you trying to curse me? Can I consider this as defamation?â
Once more, Zeke replied nonchalantly, âCursing you? Iâm so sorry, but you barely qualify as a foe of mine. Let me ask you this, have you visited Queenstown previously? Did you offend anyone? Too bad.
It seems like you have no idea that you have been poisoned.â
In fact, from the first moment Zeke laid eyes on Jeffrey, he knew the latter had been poisoned.
Zeke had intended to save Jeffrey as long as he performed up to his expectation as the newly appointed mayor of Oakheart City.
However, if he had proven himself unworthy, Zeke would leave him alone and leave him to his fate.
Thankfully, Jeffrey had proven himself worthy as the mayor of Oakheart City. Hence, Zeke decided to save him.
Obviously, Jeffrey was taken aback by Zekeâs words. âYes. I have visited Queenstown quite some time ago. I have taken some outlaws into custody as well. However, I have not been poisoned by any means because I have not detected any symptoms at all.â
In return, Zeke sneered and probed once more, âWhy are you in the hospital if youâre not poisoned?â
âIâm just feeling kind of unwell lately. The doctor has determined the root cause of my symptom. Itâs none other than varicose veins. I have not been poisoned by any means,â replied Jeffrey.
âVaricose veins are chronic diseases, itâs impossible for you to just have it suddenly. Have you experienced any of the symptoms of varicose veins before making the trip to Queenstown?â asked Zeke.
Jeffrey gave it a thought and shook his head. âI have been experiencing the symptoms only after I made my way back from Queenstown... Does that mean Iâm really poisoned? Young man, what sort of drug could it possibly be?â
âTo be exact, you have been cursed...â replied Zeke.
Suddenly, Jeffrey broke into laughter and replied with a dubious look, âYoung man, youâre not referring to the type of curse we come across on TV, are you? You should stop wasting your time on such shows. Something like a curse doesnât exist.â
He heaved a sigh of relief when he heard Zekeâs words because he almost fell for his words previously.
The director got infuriated and condemned Zeke as well, âStop pretending as though youâre the expert.
Mr. Middleton has visited countless hospitals previously. We have unanimously agreed that he suffers from varicose veins at the moment. It canât possibly be a curse.â
Zeke merely shook his head and warned them, âWhat a stubborn bunch. If thatâs what you think it is, feel free to treat him according to the way you will treat a patient who has been diagnosed with varicose veins. Hereâs a heads-up for everyone though, the more drugs incorporated during the treatment, the more complicated the situation gets in the end.â
As Zeke finished his sentence in a serious tone with a straight face, doubts started creeping into Jeffreyâs mind.
It doesnât seem like this young man is trying to cheat me. I mean, he canât possibly figure out I have made a trip to Queenstown and offended someone there before I visited the hospital, right?
Not to mention, he was right. The symptoms did show up right after my trip to Queenstown. However, I donât think curses exist in the world. Thatâs merely superstitious. As a government official, I shouldnât be deceived by such myths.
The hospitalâs director yelled, âZeke, stop deceiving others! It seems like youâre certain I will mess things up, huh? Fine! If thatâs the case, Iâll prove you wrong and treat Mr. Middletonâs condition right here, right now!â
He turned around and requested, âMr. Middleton, please allow me to treat your condition in front of everyone to prove myself innocent.â
However, Jeffrey turned around and sought Zekeâs opinion. âYoung man, what do you think?â
âWhy not?â Zeke replied nonchalantly.
Jeffrey turned around and replied the director, âIf thatâs the case, letâs do it.â
