Chapter 495

Comeback Of The Adored Heiress

Chapter 495:

A Failed Scheme Backfired

As soon as Betsey called her benefactor’s number, Madisyn’s phone on the table rang. Betsey glanced at Madisyn suspiciously, thinking it was a strange coincidence. However, she didn’t have time to ponder why Madisyn’s phone coincidentally rang when she made a call. After all, she was anxiously waiting for her benefactor to answer.

Madisyn picked up her phone from the table and set it to silent mode. Then, she opened the message, which was from Betsey. A cold smile appeared on her beautiful face.

She replied, “Are you referring to one of the jewelry pieces I gave you? What I gave you were just ordinary trinkets. They were neither real nor fake.”

Betsey quickly replied, “The pair of earrings is an FSZ limited edition.”

“Really? I don’t remember buying any of their limited editions. Actually, I gave you the jewelry to make you happy, not for you to show off.”

Betsey froze when she saw this reply. How could it be? All this time, she thought the earrings were real.

“We’ve been waiting for a long time. Can you really show proof? If you can’t, just admit it,” Madisyn said, bringing Betsey back to her senses.

“I can! It’s just that it’s been so long. Even if my friend has the receipt, she might have already misplaced it. It takes time to find it,” Betsey tried her best to maintain her arrogant and domineering demeanor to hide her uneasiness, especially now that her benefactor couldn’t help her prove the authenticity of the earrings. She believed the people around would think her reasoning made sense. After all, it had been a long time, and her friend could have easily lost the receipt.

“That’s too bad, then. But I still have my proof of purchase.”

After saying this, Madisyn showed her phone to Betsey. Sure enough, it was a receipt of payment for the earrings worth five hundred and twenty thousand dollars. The string of numbers stunned Betsey. She subconsciously stepped back, her body trembling slightly. This shop assistant had actually spent that much money on earrings? Unbelievable!

A voice suddenly sounded behind them. “We found the earrings in the restroom!”

A waitress came out of the restroom and rushed towards them with a pair of exquisite earrings in her hand. They were exactly the ones Betsey had lost.

Betsey’s heart sank when she saw the earrings. She had hidden them well, planning to retrieve them after dinner. She didn’t expect the waitress to find them.

Madisyn turned to look at Andrew. When she saw the faint smile on his face, she immediately understood what was going on.

“Give them to me,” Madisyn said, extending her hand. When the waitress placed the earrings in her palm, Betsey immediately tried to snatch them back. “Those are my earrings!”

However, Madisyn quickly clenched her fist, leaving Betsey grasping at air.

She looked at Betsey coldly, raised an eyebrow, and said firmly, “Can you show your proof that they are yours? I have already shown my proof of purchase. Right? How can you still claim they are yours? You are so ridiculous!”

Many people had seen Madisyn’s proof of purchase moments ago. They couldn’t help but comment on Betsey’s cunning behavior.

“This woman is so vicious! How dare she claim earrings worth half a million as hers!”

“How pathetic! Look at her. She looks poor but still tries to climb up the social ladder.”

“I don’t believe the earrings are hers.”

Betsey heard the crowd’s disdainful ridicule. She felt so embarrassed that she wished the floor would crack and swallow her alive.

How could things end up this way? The earrings were hers, but Madisyn took them away. Worse still, she couldn’t prove they were hers, and everyone was siding with Madisyn.

“You wretch! Those earrings are mine! Give them back to me!” Betsey shrieked, lunging forward to grab Madisyn’s hand.

But Madisyn moved sideways to dodge, causing Betsey to fall into a chair. Her nose hit the back of the chair and instantly bled.

The crowd looked at her with complicated expressions.

“Throw her out,” Andrew commanded in an oppressive voice.

The waiters were about to move when Levi quickly stepped forward and pulled Betsey up. Then, he looked at Andrew and smiled apologetically. “I’m sorry. I’ll take her away now.”

While dragging Betsey out of the restaurant, Levi took a deep breath. He thought Betsey could successfully embarrass Madisyn, so he just watched from the side, waiting for Andrew to embarrass himself. Who would have thought that they would be the ones to be humiliated?

At the thought of this, he was so angry that he snapped, “You idiot! How can you be so stupid?”

Tears welled up in Betsey’s eyes. She looked at Levi aggrievedly and retorted, “But those earrings are really mine. You know it too! Why didn’t you speak up for me?”

“They’re yours? Where’s your proof? You can’t show a receipt. That woman showed her receipt in front of everyone. Who do you think people would believe if I intervened?”

Betsey was at a loss for words. Indeed, who would believe her words without any proof? She didn’t even have a strong family background. Her earrings, worth half a million, had been snatched by that despicable woman just like that.

She was used to scheming against people. In fact, she had done it countless times, but this was the first time someone had schemed against her and succeeded. She couldn’t accept it. Bursting into tears, she took out her phone and texted her benefactor. “Madam, I was bullied. That woman went too far!”

In the restaurant, the crowd had dispersed as Betsey was taken away. Madisyn looked at the earrings in her hand before finally putting them in her bag.

Seeing this, Andrew asked, “Do you still want them? Why don’t I just buy you a new pair?” His implication was clear; the earrings had been worn by Betsey, so they were already dirty.

“Don’t worry, I will wear these. I’ll just sell them and donate the money to the children in poor villages,” Madisyn replied calmly.

The dim, warm yellow light shone on her, creating a halo around her head and making her glow. Andrew looked at her quietly, and his throat tightened. He let out a low hum in response.
