Chapter 489

Comeback Of The Adored Heiress

Chapter 489:

Just yesterday, everything had felt blissful, as if nothing could go wrong. How had it all changed so suddenly, spiraling into this? Norton couldn’t bring himself to let Maxine go. He had to see her again!

On the filming set, the morning shoot was exhausting, so Maxine wanted to rest during her noon break. However, a bodyguard in black approached her. “Miss Campbell, Mrs. Santos wishes to see you.”

Maxine glanced at the bodyguard, noting his imposing demeanor. “Just tell her that Norton and I have nothing to do with each other anymore. We’ve broken up.” The bodyguard replied, “I’m sorry, Miss Campbell, but you still need to come with me.”

Maxine frowned slightly, a hint of annoyance flickering across her face. Knowing that refusing would only waste her time, she sighed inwardly. This Mrs. Santos was clearly determined to meet her, so she followed the bodyguard outside.

There was a sleek black Rolls-Royce parked by the roadside. Maxine climbed into the car. Inside, a dignified and elegant woman sat poised, adorned in opulent jewelry. Despite her flawless appearance, she looked like someone barely over thirty.

Amanda Santos showed no pretense of politeness. She pulled out a check and handed it to Maxine. “I know you are only interested in my son for his money. Here’s a check for one million dollars. Take it and leave him.”

Maxine accepted the check without hesitation. “Okay, I’ll do as you say.” After saying that, she turned to leave so swiftly that Amanda barely had time to react.

Once Maxine had exited the car, Amanda finally reacted. “You had better keep your promise! Otherwise, I won’t let you go!”

“Absolutely,” Maxine replied over her shoulder as she walked away.

The entire exchange had been so swift it barely took two minutes. Amanda, however, felt far from satisfied. She had expected that a woman from the entertainment industry who had finally caught her son’s eye would be reluctant to leave him and might even beg to stay with him. Instead, Maxine had accepted the money without a second thought, making her son seem entirely dispensable!

This realization left Amanda feeling a deep sense of disappointment.

When Maxine returned to the filming set, another unexpected visitor was awaiting her.

Norton was sitting in her room. His eyes were a bit red as he gazed at her. Maxine remained silent as she placed the check on the table.

“What is this?” Norton asked, puzzled. His confusion quickly turned to realization as he saw that the check came from his mother. Norton’s face turned pale. How could his mother…

After a long silence, Norton finally murmured, “I’m sorry.” Maxine didn’t respond and turned to leave. Norton, however, shoved the check back into her hand, saying, “Take it. I’m sorry. I’ll compensate you.”

“There’s no need for compensation between us,” Maxine replied, withdrawing her hand.

Norton watched Maxine walk away, his heart aching. Unable to bear the shame, he left the room and headed home.

Amanda was enjoying coffee with her friends when Norton walked in, and her face lit up with joy. “Norton, you’re back.”

“Mom, why did you do this?” Norton couldn’t control his anger, his voice rising in frustration.

Embarrassed by her son’s outburst in front of her friends, Amanda was irritated. “Norton, what’s wrong?”

Without answering, he threw the check at her.

Amanda picked up the check and quickly recognized it as the one she had given to Maxine. Realization dawned on her, and she sneered. It was clear now—this woman, who had appeared so dignified, had actually taken the check to complain to her son! Indeed, the people in the entertainment industry were full of schemes and manipulations!

“Norton, she agreed to break up with you, but then came to you pretending to be the victim, didn’t she? A woman like that is not worthy of you! She’s scheming and lacking in decency. She will ruin you!” Amanda said sternly.

“She broke up with me this morning! Don’t you know that? I was the one trying to win her back!” Norton shouted angrily, his face blazing like a cornered beast. It was the first time Amanda had seen Norton so distraught, and a pang of worry gripped her heart.

The other ladies, witnessing the scene, quickly found excuses to leave. Amanda forced a smile as she saw them off, but inwardly, her resentment towards Maxine deepened. That vile woman had embarrassed her in front of so many people.

After everyone had left, Amanda grabbed Norton by the arm. “Norton, I’m only looking out for you. Maxine doesn’t have an influential background and will only drag you down. You need to find a suitable lady from a good family.”

“My affairs are none of your business!” Norton said coldly.

After saying that, he strode away. Amanda’s heart skipped a beat. Even if her relationship with Norton soured, she remained hopeful that one day he would come to understand her efforts.

At Edge Entertainment, Madisyn had recently resumed her regular work. With Andrew’s and Jared’s support, Edge Entertainment was operating well.

“Miss Johns, here are the profiles that the Johns Group has compiled over the years of individuals who need assistance,” her assistant entered the room and handed a document to Madisyn.

Madisyn began reading through the profiles. Since she had become Charity Angel, her mother decided to give her this document. If she found any promising children in this, she could choose to sponsor them.

Elaine was a strong supporter of charitable work. The Johns family, with their considerable resources, was eager to assist unfortunate children in need. Through their efforts, these children could transform their lives, with some rising to become prominent figures. However, they would never know who had helped them. The Johns family never expected anything in return for their generosity.

Madisyn carefully selected a few profiles from the document.

“What are you busy with?” a pleasant voice asked. It was Andrew.

“What brings you here?” Madisyn asked with a warm smile as she saw him.

Andrew set a small cake on the table. “I have a bit of free time today, so I thought I’d drop by. Your birthday is coming up in a few days. Is there anything special you’d like?”

Her birthday? Madisyn had completely forgotten about it. To be honest, she had celebrated her birthday since she was born.

“Nothing. Having you all here makes me happy already,” Madisyn said sincerely.

Andrew patted her head and said, “But this is your first birthday since you came back. Your family will definitely celebrate it grandly, and I want to help organize it. Where would you like to hold it?”
